For someone to have never read the book, would the movie be considered boring? It does seem to drag and repeat itself.
My friend thought it was really boring, and he even likes fantasy movies/books. And we watched most of the second and he loved it.

So is it considered boring to a lot of people?
I would say it's slower in pace compared to the other two. Fellowship introduces your main characters, sets up your story, and gives you a quick history lesson in recent Middle Earth happenings related to the Ring. Other than Moria, there really aren't any big battle scenes, and this one is small compared to the others in the movie (Helm's Deep, Pelennor Fields). There is a lot of repeating, since it does involve a lot of walking/travel scenes. It's about them getting from the Shire to Parth Galen where the Fellowship then splits.

Compared to the book though, it does seem to move a lot faster. They cut out a lot of the slower parts in the book (the selling of Bag End and the move to Crickhollow, the sighting of Elves in the Shire, the Old Forest and Tom Bombadil, Barrow Downs, etc.).

I don't think it's boring, per say. It takes a while to build into the faster-paced parts, but the cinematography is beautiful, you meet all these cool characters... I love the first movie.

How can you say the first lord of the rings movie was boring when it got tons of feed back and reviews, so in my personal opinion the First movie was not at all boring
When I first watched the Lord of the Ring I didnt think it was boring.

I don't know if it's considered boring to a lot of people. I don't know why it would be, unless they're just not fans of the movie.
In my opinion, the first movie isn't as exciting as the other two. But I didn't think it was boring, and I don't know anyone who does think that. *shrug*

I find that among my friends the first movie is by far the most popular - that is, it tends to be their favorite.

But it does move slower than the other two because, as was said, it is a set-up to the later conflict and action. The very end of the first movie is really the beginning of the suspense.

Personally though, the third one is my favorite. All the battle scenes, and the fantastic climax, ah, I love an ending with an actual ending too.
no i love all the movies
Well, the extended version of the first movie adds a lot of little things making it less slow paced.

Yea I think that's part of it, he didn't see the extended version.
To some people it might be, but I rather enjoyed watching the first movie unfold the story that's what I enjoyed.
i love the first movie because it introduces all the characters especially aragorn, and frodo!!!!!!
It's slower-paced than the other two films, since it focuses on setting up the characters. Wouldn't calling boring, though.
