He's my favorite character, I love how he randomly bursts into song in the book, it's so cheery. I also love movie Legolas though because he seems a lot more mysterious, and let's face it, he had some awesome scenes. He never seemed weak to me at all, he was amazing with his bow, he saved the fellowship's butt a number of times.

He really didn't. Tolkien, I believe, in one of his numerous letters stated that Legolas accomplished the least of all of the Fellowship. Also abandoned the kingdom that he was seemingly the heir of. Take him out of the equation and all that happened still would have occurred.

That being said I do kind of like book Legolas, he does burst into song and is a smartass to Gandalf at one point. Got to respect that a little.

I agree completely with this, also he stated the obvious way to much in the movies. 'Goblins' really Legolas? Really?

They made him Captain Obvious.

But Legolas in general is a weak character compared to most of the Fellowship. Not saying I don't like him though.
