I think Legolas just got oted tops because of Orlando Bloom. Legolas in the books is great, no doubt, but certainly not the Master, Eldest and Fatherless.

In the Movies:

1) The witch king, Lord of Angmar
2) Saruman the White
3) Smeagol(Golem scares me)

In the books:

1) Elrond
2) Elbereth Githoniel, The Witch King
3) Smeagol/Golem(they are both equally scary)

I'm rarely a fan of the main characters in well... anything really rofl
