Welcome to Gaia! ::

Ellienad_Telcontar
I love turning people's names into Elvish. It's a hobby.... I find your name's meaning, and then do my best to translate using the list of name components in the back of the Silmarillion. If I can't find good matches there, I go to a quenya dictionary. By the end of it all I usually have about ten different possibilities, ranging in accuracy and pronouncability.

You're just like me, Ellienad. xd I'm not sure how many words I've learned that way...

Hmmm. I'll have the next Quenya lesson up (finally) tomorrow or the day after. whee
I had no idea this existed. Language is my passion, and I thought it was so cool that Tolkien made up his own. Several, no less. It's incredible to find out that there are people who speek it fluently. I would love to learn, so you can count on me to show up for lessons!
I took a crash course in sindarin when I went to the LOTR convention up in Seattle, of course I've forgotten the majority of it now. I did get a neat little dictionary out of the class though.
I'd love to take a real class on Sindarin. I've only done online stuff. It'd be so much better if I had some one to practise speaking it with!
We went to Harvard when we were in Boston, and in the COOP (Harvard bookstore, basically) under Required Readings in Fiction, there was the Hobbit xd I was like "SQUEE! Hobbit." But no other Tolkien books.

Mom says there's a course at Harvard involving Tolkien. I didn't know that o.O;; Would explain why there were some analytical books looking at his works in the bookstore as well.
That's fun Zurgi!

I dunno how much I'd understand those analytical books though.

My current mission: Find the Sindarin word for... Garlic. 3nodding
Mission Status: Succesful.

Garlic = Salabnaith.

Speared herb. Hurray. xd
Woah man, triple post. My thread needs life! Or to be sticked! *cries at the mods' feets* crying

Anyway, the purpose of this post is interesting. For me at least.

So I'm a member at CoE right. And I go there often but don't really know anyone. I've gotten a few messages every once in a while. Well today I went on and had two. One was about a post I had done about Glorfindel (figures eh?) and the other one was some one asking for a translation.

I love doing translations. (hint hint) So I thought I'd give it a try. Turns out they wanted me to translate a last name. You need to know the meaning of it before you can translate it. I tried everything I could think of and failed and then I accidently stumbled onto the meaning of it and poof, had a translation for both Sindarin and Quenya in the next three minutes!

Long story short: I just translated my first last name ever! xd
*claps* Good job Glorfy.
