My name is "Signe" and for the longest time I hated my name when I was little. A lot of kids made fun of me.
For one thing, there are two different pronounciations which have two different implications. "Sing-nah" is the general pronounciation, but it also implies a degree of affection or familiarity when used by a close friend or family. "Sig-nah" is the other pronounciation, which might be used by my parents if I, say, knocked over my mother's favourite vase and broke it. Ironically, "Sig-nah" is the pronounciation all my friends use because either the other one is two hard or their lazy.
Second, almost NO ONE can pronounce my name correctly on the first try -or the second, or third, and something not even the fourth.
Nowadays, though, I love my name. It means "An Omen Of Victory" in Norwegian.
As for nicknames, I have a rather large collection (it's a Scandinavian thing): Sig, Siggy, Lemur, Little Lemur, Red, Bluey, Sloth-Lemur, Sigiggy, Copper Top, Pasty, and Pastry.
