Welcome to Gaia! ::

So I recently started working as a secretary for a local company. The job is mostly fine and normal. However there is one employee that everyone avoids, shoots dirty looks at, and generally dislikes. After noticing it for a while I asked a coworker about him and she told me he's a felon. He spent 5 years in prison for child pornography. Now he works as the tech guy for our company. Everyone at the company apparently hates him, and want him fired, but management won't get rid of him because doing so would be discrimination, and because they get tax incentives for hiring an ex felon.

Then about a few weeks ago, during lunch, I had my first personal encounter with him. I went out to a picnic table outside to eat, and he was there eating lunch. I wasn't going to eat with him, so I gave a disgusted sigh and turned around, hoping at the least to offend him and maybe to drive him off. Instead he got angry and confronted me. He told me he was sorry his existence offended me, and that I was free to eat, he wasn't contagious.

Eventually I started eating lunch regularly with him, and we got around to talking a bit. I was actually kind of shocked about some of the things I've learned about him, and what he's been through. I have to say, I'm actually kind of shocked.

Apparently yes, he is a genuine *****, and came around to understanding it at a young age, and was caught shortly afterward. Despite the fact that he'd never harmed anyone, never touched anyone, and had never had an issue with the law before, they put him in the same prison as actual murderers, serial killers, gang members, and so on. After a few months the prison administration put him in isolation against his will for the duration of his sentence, simply because the other inmates would've ended up killing him.

He can't vote, and has to go through several processes to get his right to vote back.

He can't own firearms despite the fact that self defense is something he actually needs now.

He's harassed and assaulted regularly. His car is a mess. All the windows of his car are completely broken, and he just puts plastic wrap over them now because fixing them is a waste. He has bricks and rocks thrown through his windows at home regularly. His house is egged/vandalized regularly. His car has spray paint/graffiti all over it.

He has to keep a sign in his front yard that says he is a sex offender. He has to tell his neighbors that he is a sex offender, and the nature of his crime, any time he moves.

He cannot live within 1000 yards of children, he cannot be within 200 yards of children. Because of this he does most of his shopping online, and when he grocery shops, he does so in the middle of the night when the stores are empty.

The police visit his house twice a month to check on him. They also monitor his internet traffic. He isn't allowed to visit sites aimed at children, or have accounts at sites that children frequent. This means he can go to youtube, but might get in trouble depending on the videos he sees, and he cannot make an account. He can't have an account on Steam, and so on. He's not allowed to watch or view porn at all, even if it is between consenting adults. Downloading or visiting sites related to proxies or internet security software is an instant violation and would lose his privilege to even be around a computer, and thus his job.

All in all, it is insane. I mean, I get what he did was gross, and evil, and bad. However he never hurt anyone, and what he deals with is hardly living.

Personally, I think they should make a town out in the middle of nowhere, where people like this can live and work, without having to worry about the rest of society, being harassed constantly, or having the police monitor every breath they take. It's not really fair to expect them to handle so many restrictions in normal society.

What do you think LD? How should we deal with these people? Do you agree they should have their own town? Maybe on an island?

That idea... sounds an awful lot like a concentration camp.

I have observed that the upstanding and righteous moral members of society are quite content to enact their base evil nature on those that society deems unsavory. This is why that guy deals with harassment and assault constantly. This is why you consciously acted "hoping to offend" a person you'd never met and knew nothing about aside from what was at the time gossip.

This is also why we invented concentration camps.

We invented concentration camps so that we can cause the ones we hate to suffer and eventually die all in a convenient little pocket so we know where not to look. It is the same reason so few seem to care about the ghettos and broken cities filled with the poor and starving, ruled by what are essentially warlords that everyone ignores so long as they stay out of our pleasant neighborhoods. The world is roses and sunshine and love; "teehee does Johnny like me?", "G'mornin' Miss Theresa!", but you see that dark patch, Simba? That is the Elephant Graveyard, and we do not speak of it. You are neither to do so, nor shall ye visit there.
Avert your eyes from the suffering we cause, and sing songs of love and plenty. Live without care, for you do not live there.

-----

No, I don't believe we should put felons in concentration camps in the middle of nowhere "for their protection". I think people should stop deluding themselves into believing themselves beings of light and purity as they blissfully ruin lives because they can't be bothered to give a s**t. I believe we need to get over ourselves. I believe that if we don't plan on doing anything to stop being wicked, we should at least own up to it.

You do realize that there are real children being exploited in child pornography, right? And by obtaining and possessing it, he was further supporting the underground industry that creates it...you know, by raping and abusing kids on film for the pleasure of sickos like himself. I'm not saying that what people do to him is right. They're breaking the law too, and should be punished as well. But what he did was not harmless. There is a reason obtaining and possessing (especially making!) child pornography is a crime. There is a reason the police have to closely monitor everything he does. Because he had to have obtained the child pornography from other *****, some who MAKE it.

So while he never directly laid his hands on a kid, he supported those who have, and further disseminated pictures of these abused kids where they can never get that s**t back. They are out there on the net forever. And they didn't get a choice on whether that would go out there. They didn't get a choice in having to be molested and raped by sick ******** who get their jollies off to little kids. Some of them will never get justice. Some of them are illegal, off the map, no one even knows they were smuggled into the country. Help won't come for them. And if they survive the ordeal, there is a good chance they will end up in the same business as their abusers, only now instead of being the victim, they becoming abusers themselves. So don't think what he did was harmless. That it wasn't hurting someone. He was furthering the industry of child trafficking and abuse by consuming child pornography.

Don't get blinded by his s**t conditions. He put himself there. He didn't have to seek out and amass a collection of kiddie porn. He knew it was wrong. But he did it anyway. He didn't work to suppress his urges. So now he's paying the price. And he's wired so he poses a true threat to children. While he does not deserve to be attacked and have his property vandalized, he doesn't deserve to not have all eyes on him. He doesn't deserve to not live his life under the thumb of the law. Because he did do a wrong, and he still poses a threat. In that sense, he should be thankful he was even let out. He broke the law and he is paying for it. His 'oh poor me' routine can only go so far.

I half agree with you. Well more like 75% agree with you. What we don't know from the OP is whether he ever bought, sold, or participated in the trading of the material. It's hard to say someone supports something simply by having viewed it. For instance, if I happen to see a Playboy magazine, hell if I fap to it, you couldn't say I inherently support Playboy as a company. If none of my money went to the company, and I didn't share or inform anyone about it, I haven't done anything to increase Playboy's popularity or profit. I'm guessing the places this type of material is shared doesn't generate revenue via clicks either. So we can't say based on the OP that he helped support an industry of any sort.

That said, he is a sick ********. He does deserve the be monitored and watched forever. He doesn't deserved to be harassed and attacked by ordinary citizens for the rest of his life though, especially when he has served his sentence, in isolation no less. Spending 5 years in a concrete box without seeing daylight is a hefty punishment. We let murderers and rapists off with less.

Honestly the "building them a town" idea seems like the best bet. These people need a place where they can live safe lives and hold steady jobs without being a threat to society, or having society be a threat to them.

He was charged with possessing child porn. Considering how most countries are super against child porn, it's not something that's as easy to find as regular porn. It's not like walking into a store and a Playboy is sitting on the magazine rack. You have to actively seek it out, and usually, to obtain it, you have to pay a fee or make a trade of material. Considering it's extremely illegal and these sickos don't want to get caught, they need to know you are one of them and will enter into a contract of mutually assured destruction should one get caught with the material. They need to know that you won't take this s**t to the police because you too are committing a crime, not only by possessing it, but by having some to trade. Blackmail for all. So it's pretty safe to say that by possessing it, he was supporting the industry, either with money, trade, or other favors (******** about with proxy servers, encrypting files, etc).

And they do have small 'towns' they can go live in where they are kept relatively safe. It's called prison. They get an isolation cell all to themselves, taxpayers pay to feed and clothe their twisted a**, and they get exercise once a day. They don't even have to work for the room and board there! Sounds positively dreamy. Now, maybe it'd be 'nicer' if they made sex offender only jails, or ***** jails. I mean, if your own bros try to kill you there, you must be a really sick ********. Hey, if they did that, then they could actually put them to work so they could earn their keep. And they'd have job security the average joe would never get, because it's prison! I mean Joe Shmoe wouldn't want to fill out the application for THAT job. At least, not if they were a decent human being. Maybe the idea of them having a 'town' of their own isn't such a bad one! They can be exploited just like they exploit kids, only this way, the government and taxpayers would be the ones making a profit. 3nodding

Yes. I think people like rapists, *****, and people that make child pornography and/or watch it should all live together on their own little land, away from the rest of the world. Let them deal with each other and hurt each other.

If I could, I'd stick all the evil/corrupt people together on an island so that the rest of the population, innocent people just trying to live happy lives, can be at peace and not suffer needlessly.

Find me a person who is not, to some degree, "corrupt". Find me a truly pure innocent, who holds no evil in their heart. Find me someone who harbors no malice, begrudges no one their imperfections, has a selfless and noble heart. Find me someone who is not tempted by what is easy or rewarding instead of what is right. Find me someone who sees not the wretched, the poor, the vile, the wicked; someone who will not look away from them; someone who sees instead equals and feels for them nothing but pity and sadness and truly wishes to make things better for them. Find me someone who, when wronged, responds with compassion. Find me someone who will truly never think to wrong another even slightly, even when all eyes are turned away.

You island will be very crowded indeed.

And if you pull out your p***s to piss in public, especially near a playground, you can be slapped as a sex offender and have to do and go through everything the same.

If a 17 year old sends you n***s, you can get charged for possession of child pornography, and again, be in the same boat.

What people here, especially Furygeist, don't understand is that those people have an actual problem. They're sick. Not always evil, not always the lowest of lows, but sick. What he did was foolish and harmful beyond what he knows, but it's not on par with actual rapists, who get the same treatment. He's going to eat s**t his entire life for a decision he was more than likely clouded while making.
