Kids do it because they a) don't care about language/grammar, b) don't know how to ACTUALLY spell things (so figure "if I can't spell this word, I'll misspell everything else I say and look cool) or c) because everyone else is doing it.
I'll be the first to admit that I don't always use perfect grammar. I type like I talk, more or less, sometimes. And I'm not a perfect speller. Spell check is my FRIEND. And I do use "lol" "g2g" "brb" and things like that.
but i dun mez up da langwage i sayz i shud no.
my brain hurt when I typed that.
lolcats are the only acceptable time to type like an idiot.
Haha, agreed about the lolcats. But that in itself serves a point, lolcats are funny because they're cats who don't understand grammar, so it sort of makes it cute.
People who write like that... It's just sad really. This manner of speaking has actually impacted the educational system. Kids who go online, and read grammatically incorrect posts/texts learn to type incorrectly. And re-learning something is exponentially more difficult than learning something the first time.

Maybe it might not be out of laziness as all of the " good-typists " are saying. Every single one of them are hypocritical because they once typed like that as well, as so did I. Shut the ******** up please.
I'm sorry, but I can honestly say that even from the time I was eleven, and first started chatting online (1998-1999) I typed to the best of my ability, and used correct grammar.
Practice makes perfect, and practicing incorrect technique will only make learning the correct way harder down the line.
Also, I'd appreciate it if you would be more tolerant of people's opinions
