Welcome to Gaia! ::

I assumed she meant like Christian Rock, only with Wicca. Christian rock is only so defined if much of the music is specifically Christian themed, rather than the band just having Christian members etc. Evanescence, for example, mentions the Christian god in a couple of songs, and a few members are Christians, but they're not a Christian band.

Inkubus Sukkubus is the only Wiccan band I know, though I think there are some others. But many bands are either Pagan of another stripe (like many Viking metal bands), or are influenced by Pagan themes.
Ahhhh...I get it.

The only think that I can really think of that might be close are the albums that Reclaiming puts out, though a most of the ones I have heard are more chant-like, than what I think she is looking for.
Reclaiming's chants are beautiful 3nodding

Enya's popular among some Pagans 3nodding

There's Inkubus Sukkubus. They're a Neo-Wiccan band. There aren't many Pagan bands, though. Most of them aren't very popular or well-known.

why not sa-chan? i mean, there are a lot of pagans or wiccans right? so why they are not popular? sweatdrop

chants? what is a chant? is not teh same as a spell? so wiccan band are rare?

mmm Enya made a song for a movie if im not wrong, but is not a wiccan band? so what do wiccans hear apart Inkubus Sukkubus. ?

There are quite a few Pagans and Wiccans around, but proportionally, compared to other religions, there aren't many of us at all. Plus we're spread out all over the world and some Pagans are "in the broom closet", in other words, they can't tell anyone they're a Pagan because their friends or family would disapprove, etc.

But mostly, starting a band is hard work. Many bands work for years and years and only play local venues. You need to get a big break. With the internet it's easier than it used to be... you can go on myspace music etc. But it's still hard. So there are probably a few Wiccan bands out there, but you have to go and find them.

There are more Viking bands around. Viking metal is influenced by Norse religion and mythology. Not all Viking metal bands are actually Pagan, but quite a few are Asatru or leaning in that direction.

Enya, actually, is a Catholic wink

Enya is catholic!?!??! my godness! really!? i havent heard of any catholic group...actually most of the religious band i have heard that exists are Christian bands..i think is because most of the songs of catholic religion are for prayers so you only sing in the church...mmm i should be in the church right now but i overslept sweatdrop
I looked her up on Wikipedia to check, apparently she's fairly devout and sings in church sometimes 3nodding Her music isn't Catholic, but she is wink

You Catholics are lucky. You don't have any modern bands but you have some marvellous, fantastic, absolutely beautiful songs spanning centuries. Look at all the Requiem Masses out there. I'm a fan of Gregorian chants, too. I have a few on my ipod. I LOVE that old stuff. wink

There's a band called Mediaeval Babes that has quite a few girls in it, and a fair number of Wiccans seem to like them. But most of the music is mediaeval stuff, so most of the themes are Catholic. wink They're really quite beautiful songs. Ones that jump to mind are "Gaudete" and "Salva Nos". There's some folk stuff as well. They're not actually a Christian band, and I don't know if any members are Christian. But they love mediaeval music, and much mediaeval music that we have surviving in some form is Christian music.

Like, this song: Adam Lay Ibounden. It's in Old English, and one of their songs I really like. But totally Christian wink
The lyrics are a bit hard to understand, but it says, basically translated:
Adam lay bound, Bound in a bond
For 1000 winters, He didn't think.
And all was for an apple,
An apple that he took,
As clerks find, Written in this book.
Had that apple not been taken,
We wouldn't have had Our Lady
Our Queen of Heaven
Blessed be the time
That apple was taken
Therefore, we will sing
"Deo Gracias!"

And this one here, Salva Nos, that I mentioned before, is in Latin and about the Virgin Mary. I think. wink

As for chants, they're not spells. Chants are a sort of a cross between singing and speaking... although sometimes they can be quite song-like. But the important thing is that the melody (if there is one) is very simple, and that it is repetitive. You can use it to build energy, for a ritual or to use for a spell. So not spells in their own right, but useful for raising energy.

Reclaiming is like a Neo-Pagan group. A famous witch called Starhawk is a member, I think she founded it actually. She's a Goddess-worshipper rather than a Wiccan and she wrote some pretty good books on Neo-Paganism. Anyway, Reclaiming has some really beautiful chants.
This one is called "We all come from the Goddess"

There's another Wiccan chant that recites the names of some goddesses. It goes:
Isis, Astarte, Diana, Hecate, Demeter, Kali, Inanna
Inkubus Sukkubus did a beautiful version of this chant. You can hear it Here.

(Goddamn I love youtube xd )

wow!!! really!? i didnt knew all this abot the chgants!

i wasnt too surprised that you couldnt find modern catholic bands (they dont exist ..or i havent heard of them not even once sweatdrop , but that is precisely because catholic sometmes is really traditional.. so , i think it wouldnt be approved by most of the people (some could find it ..err...wrong? )but well, i dont care too much if there are bands or not, we pray at the church or you do it by yourself, but there are song that always remmeber good things, and i love them!!! i feel conforted 4laugh

i dont know latin, but i think salva Nos is a song that remembers the salvation , is like praying for God´s mercy for our sins or something ike that is that i know

so chants dont have ay power by themselfs?
why there arent any wiccan groups, at leastin an underground way?
With chants it's a combination of the words, how they are said and how many times you repeat them that helps to raise the energy. I personally think that if you use a particular chant often enough, it will start to cary it's own energy in a way, and therefore be powerful in it's own right.

Here is a link to a list of "pagan" bands...I don't know anything about them, but I'll get around to checking some of them out eventually. http://musicmoz.org/Religious/Pagan/Bands_and_Artists/

I think more often than not even if there were "wiccan" bands, they would still end up being classified as pagan for simplicity sake.

so chants are not magical? no one can mak them special or full of magic?

mmm, so , no wiccan bands? ooh well, maybe there will be one or two soon n_n 3nodding
Inkubus Sukkubus kinda counts wink

Chants are just words. The words themselves don't have any specific power, really. The chant isn't magical in its own right, the power comes from the person. But a chant well-written and well chanted can raise a fair bit of energy.

Wiccan music? Try Leaves Eyes. It seems to have a Wiccan feel to it. Or it may just be me.
