I don't mind veganism in concept, and I can respect vegetarians for their dedication. However when I see vegans lauding the Lone Star Tick as a way to get people to stop eating red meat, I get really friggen scared because what kind of renegade do you have to be to make someone allergic to red meat (that's what the Lone Star Tick essentially does) to accomplish your goals? I mean s**t, that sounds like something a radical animal rights activist would come up with.

My opinion.... basically I think ITS ******** STUPID.

I was just recently screening through a blog (let them eat meat) from this dude who was vegan for a long time and then had health problems and gave it up, he seems to have written some very interesting things that I might someday read, should I find I have that much interest in it.
One thing in particular that lead me to looking at it was his opinion that vegans should consider eating oysters since they're non-sentient which I suppose is an interesting suggestion for those who hold a different opinion on veganism than I do.

I think the reason why it mildly interested me is because what really gets under my skin about veganism in the first place is the ALL OR NOTHING attitude, its not just a diet- its a lifestyle; a set of moral values that you either adhere to completely or you don't. If someone were to say they're a vegan that lives in that grey area, I would automatically find them to be a more interesting person (rather than someone who's just off their rocker in their world of extremity). In fact, I'm pretty sure I recently had a convo with a vegan gaian who lived in the grey area, concerned about animal welfare but would be ok with eating responsibly-sourced meat/wild game, but most vegans don't seem to consider that actual veganism rolleyes (I don't just because "vegan" is a dirty word and should only be used as an insult. Much like "republican." If someone chooses to insult themselves in such a way, more power to them, but please stay far away from me. ty. )

Maybe it's because I've only just woken up and am extremely dazed but I didn't find your comment to make much sense.
You think it's stupid to be vegan because of the word vegan?
no, I think its stupid because to be vegan you have to utterly commit yourself to the philosophy and the lifestyle of no-animal-products-ever with no exceptions
there is inevitable hypocrisy in this but I don't really care about that, nor do I think most vegans would bash on one of their kind for wearing a second-hand leather belt or something stupid like that, but they would be more likely to throw a b***h-fit if another vegan decides its ok to make an exception in their diet every once in a while

to me, the word vegan refers to something too radical and too extreme to make any sense whatsoever

Obviously if a vegan chooses to wear a leather jacket there not vegan. If they eat vegan but wear animal products that would make them vegetarian. Lol. The meaning of the word vegan means not eating or using anything that can traces back to animal sources. Vegetarian is a non-meat diet.
Which is also something I think is admirable because every one person who chooses not to eat meat helps.

I mean.. I think it's awful that people like you choose to eat meat, knowing how bad it is for the environment and how badly treated animals are on dairy farms, chicken factorys ect.. but I don't

I don't get people who eat meat...
You don't need to eat it.
It's doing bad things for the environment.
Animals are treated like s**t.
It's healthier to eat Vegan or Vegetarian.

I guess people who eat meat aren't as intelligent as us who don't or don't have the
knowledge we do.
I guess some could just be a** holes who don't care about the planet and living creatures.

Protein (and meat) is actually what boosted our intelligence and allowed us to evolve from the really early more ape-like homids that we used to be, so, saying that people who eat meat aren't as intelligent as vegetarins or vegans is wishful thinking. Unless of course, you wish to go the ancient astronauts theory route where our genes were manipulated and mingled with those of vaguely humanoid extra-terrestrials to explain the 'jump' in brain capacity and so forth.

Meat-eaters may not have subject-specific knowledge concerning how to go meat-free, but that does not make them stupid, ignorant, less intelligent etc than anyone else. Someone who specialises in one area of knowledge more than another area is not more intelligent than someone who hasn't, or someone who has specialised in a different subject area of knowledge. An expert in physics is no more or less intelligent than an expert in archaeology, history, maths, geology, sports therapy and the list goes on.

I'm a vegetarian, but not vegan. The way that vegans tend to act really puts me off, more so than the extremeness of veganism. Vegetarians tend to be snobby, too, but not on the aggressively rude scale like the vegan community.

I feel like a lot of the criticism towards vegetarian or vegan lifestyles has a lot to do with confusion (other than the bad eggs). A ton of people still don't understand that the nutrients found in meat can be found in other foods, so they think we'll all shrivel up and die.

But it's definitely healthier, and no one can really deny that. I dropped 20 pounds when I made the change, my cholesterol levels are stunning, my skin cleared up and my nails grow stronger. While I made the change because of how horrible animals are treated in "Farms", the health benefit was a huge plus.

My husband is a definite meat lover, though. If he could eat steak and pork tenderloins every day, he probably would.

I do find myself to be a snob at times when it comes to been asked about why I'm vegan.
I also find that I can't help but in my head look down upon people ever so slightly because of my beliefs and lifestyle choice. However... I don't try to shove my lifestyle on other people or go on and on about why they should become Vegan. I'm not rude about it and many of my dear friends eat meat.
I'll educate those who ask about it but not unless asked.

My entire family eat meat except me and my brother choose to be vegan and
my Dad is vegetarian.

I'm a radical animal rights activist and I would never take anyone posting that seriously.
Come on, it's a ******** joke. No one actually supports using the Lone Star Tick to make people allergic to meat, it's a joke.
I'm vegan from birth, which means I've been vegan all my life. I've only consumed animal products in extremely rare occasions, mostly as an accident. When I lived secluded outside of this eco community I used to live a few years ago, I actually lived mostly as a re collector.
Right now I'm a raw vegan and only consume what I can get directly from nature and what we produce when I'm back home (I live in an anarchist eco village), but when I'm travelling or in the city, I just adapt to regular veganism. Also, when I dumpster dive in the cities and I get non vegan food, Ill give it to someone who eats it, but when I find other non vegan stuff from the dumpster like clothes, Ill in some occasions actually take it for myself, because I'm not harming anything.
