You can't choose to be an atheist any more then you can choose what you think. It's a belief (or lack of one) that you either have, or you don't. Do you mean that you want to start officially calling yourself an atheist? If so, then mind as well- If that's what you are, that is.

Really? It wasn't meant to be.. What I'm saying is:

-Atheism isn't a choice.

-If you're an atheist, then you're an atheist.

-If you're an atheist, then you mind as well call yourself one.

I don't think you can be an atheist on purpose. If you believe in God, you're not, if you don't believe in God, you are. It's not like you can say " I'm going to stop believing in God...NOW. Ok I'm an Atheist!"

You can be a Christian and believe science is right and evolution is a good theory...WHAT KIND OF CRAP ARE YOU BEING FED? D:

Atheism should be something you decide when you feel , yeah I don't believe in any of it, not just a last resort for something silly like that.
People generally choose what to believe based on how they feel, then look for facts to support their belief later--though they perceive it incorrectly as looking at the facts and choosing what to believe based on them.

Christianity is not about thinking the bible is a history book. Any Christian who isn't an idiot can tell you that. With Christianity, the bible tells stories in metaphors as to how you should live your life-- loving your fellow man, helping the community, and offering your services to those in need (along with hundreds of other things). All but the most extremist Christians know for a fact that the earth was not congealed 6000 years ago.

lolwut?
Who gives a s**t? Practically every teenager becomes an atheist at some point, usually for stupid reasons. Like valuing science and believing in evolution; cause science & religion are totally incompatible right? Go whore yourself out for attention elsewhere.

It's not so much a choice as just... what you believe. Do you believe in God or not? If so, you're a theist and maybe you subscribe to a specific religion (like Christianity) and maybe not. If you don't believe in got then you're an atheist. Or perhaps you're not sure and you're an agnostic.

I know I'm not the only one that believes in evolution and is Christian, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that looks for scientific explanations in my religion.

I'm not the only one who would agree with you.

You're saying you can't choose what to believe?

That's exactly what I'm saying.

You can choose to look at evidence, and choose to hear opinions, but whether or not you believe isn't something you can control. A belief is very much like any other thought, in which you can try to manipulate the result, but when it all comes down to it, you either think it or you don't.

I can sort of believe that. As I mentioned earlier, people choose what to believe for emotional reasons and look for facts to support their belief after they've already made their choice.

But on a broader scale, does free will even exist? There certainly isn't any evidence for it.
