Gays just need to turn to God and be forgiven for this sin called "Homosexuality". The day of silence sounds ridiculous to me.
"...Self-righteous, judgmental, first to throw a stone,
and using His (God's) name for your own protection."~ 'God Thinks'-Voltaire
Those song lyric seems to work here (there's two lines before that would really suit you here IMHO but I'm being nice). You don't even know the guy yet you're judging him based on his sexualty. I'm sorry, but I don't think being gay is a sin. It's not in the 10 commandments is it? No. So why is it a sin? Why is being gay considered worse/as bad as murder? Besides with the over population of the world, we need a few homosexuals to balance things out.
Anyway, on the original post. I have a few gay friends and they aren't participating because they think that silent protest/awareness isn't helpful. They're more...passive types though, they won't say they're gay unless someone questions them directly (it's pretty obvious with two of them but yeah). And if someone does question them/bash them, they try to explain themselves as coherently as possible without getting insulted or angered. I have a lot of respect for them since they've had to deal with a lot of people thinking they're sinners because they like the same sex. Or people thinking they're horrible disgusting creatures. I think it's really stupid to judge someone based on who they ********]
If you read the Bible its all in there. I suggest you read it yourself
biggrin Its really a great book. But yes it most definitely is a sin since the beginning of time. Its nothing new. Jesus Christ would talk with the prostitutes and homosexuals when he was alive and would guide them and talk to them about the sin they were committing and that they should turn away from it. Its becoming "socially" acceptable to be gay in this day and age as we move closer to God's return and its quite sad. Its such a sad and hurtful and hopeless way of life living in sin. All I hope is people begin changing their actions now. May God bless you and your family
biggrin
Oh my goodness gracious... This is a frightening post, if ever I saw one.
Where do I begin?
Perhaps with the Bible being "a great book?" If I'm correct in my understanding of the use of the word "great" in that statement, then I feel I have every right to ask the following: ARE YOU INSANE???!?!? <<if not, you have my sincerest apologies>>
If by "great" you meant "bearing a vast influence on the minds, lives, and DEATHS of billions of people throughout history", then you are absolutely correct. Otherwise, I strongly suggest that you rethink your definition of "great", along with the origins and contents of the Bible...
Allow me to enlighten you...
-The "Holy" Bible consists of a collection of sixty-six separate books (Both Old and New Testaments combined.) These books were chosen, after a decent amount of haggling, by the Catholic Council of Carthage in 397 A.D. (a date which is needless to say, over 300 years after the time Jesus was known to have walked the Earth.)
-None of the original manuscripts that the Bible is (allegedly) translated from exist. There is likely not a single book today which survives in anything like it's original form. Let's not mention the countless discrepancies there are between the oldest manuscripts of any one book.
-Many of the authors of the books included in the Bible are unknown, as, where an author has been named, that name has sometimes chosen by pious believers, rather than given by the authors themselves. And--in spite of what the Gospel authors say--biblical scholars are now almost unanimously agreed that none of the Gospel authors was either an actual disciple of Jesus or even an eyewitness to his ministry.
-Many biblical books have the earmarks of fiction. For example, private conversations are often related when no reporter was present. Conversations between God and various individuals are recorded. Prehistoric events are given in great detail. When a story is told by more than one author, there are usually significant differences. Many stories--stories which in their original context are considered even by Christians to be fictional--were borrowed by the biblical authors, adapted for their own purposes, given a historical setting, and then declared to be fact.
Allow me to stop there, as I could go on forever!
So.
Is the Bible, despite all of the aforementioned problems in regard to its validity, TRULY the work of an ever-merciful, all-knowing, and loving God?
It's my personal belief that no, it is not. It is instead, the work of countless men, holding a tremendous influence over the world of their time, seeking to bend the accepted reality to whatsoever they deemed appropriate... Not God (in whom I have a very profound belief in, in ways best not discussed here.)
I find it EXTREMELY unlikely that such a book, while apparently functional for myriad people of many walks of life around the world, having been written BY MEN, holds any credibility (to me at least) when being considered for the sake of what is morally acceptable by God. That includes homosexuality.
But in case you have difficulty stomaching my words here, allow me to take a few from the very book I'm discussing. *ahem* "Cursed is the one who trusts in man,
who depends on flesh for his strength
and whose heart turns away from the Lord." Jeremiah 17:5
THESE WORDS MAY VARY DEPENDING ON WHICH
VERSION OF THE BIBLE YOU READ...
<<Let the record show that I believe homosexuality is often both behavior and choice, but is not, by any means, EXCLUSIVELY so... As many Christians today would have you believe. Just saying.>>
