Ok, so i am gay and i have been through my share of anti-gay harrasment. Now i recently (today) found out about the day of silence, apirl 16. It is a day where you don't talk and you also raise awarness of gay,bi,lesbian harrasment. Here is the link to the site:http://www.dayofsilence.org/index.cfm I want everyone to at least read over the information and help to spread the word in any way.
It's hard to "spread the word" when you're being silent, you know.
Easy to go unnoticed.

Instead, maybe wear t-shirts that encourage tolerance and LGBT awareness.
Gives you feelings that you don't wanna fight

... How do you raise awareness without talking?

I'll stick to celebrating Coming Out Day on October 11th and Gay Pride Month in June.

I used to participate in high school.
Then I realized how ridiculously counter-productive it is in the real world.
The GLBT support thread is discussing this, IIRC.

My personal opinion is that DoS is pretty stupid if done independantly, but that combined with an organized approach and a breaking the silence event, it has a chance of being a little effective at the highschool level.
The Day of Silence last year was ******** great, the gay guy in my philosophy class didn't shout his flamboyant ******** mouth off once.

I always thought it was kind of silly.
I mean, how the hell can you raise awareness by staying silent?
It's like how the hippies were too high and diseased to actually achieve what they wanted.
Have fun getting suspended from school.
You just learned about this?
Bad idea. Not only is it a day where you don't speak up for yourself, the DoS was stolen by pro-lifers, so people won't know if you're supporting gay rights or against abortion.

How so? The faggots and emo bitches will get together and "spread the love" while everybody else will continue on with their lives. They might ask what the ******** they're doing, and they might read the cards, but in the end they don't really give a s**t. It's pointless.

Based on the whiney "plz halp" posts I see here, most high schoolers are so into each other's s**t they must be fighting over the cards just to have one more thing to do instead of paying attention in class.
It won't make them stop calling each other "fagbox" but as for ~*~awareness~*~, there's nothing like an after school party only some people go to to get 14 year olds interested.

Yeah. I tried it but I stopped after I kept getting asked why I was being so silent...plus it was very hard being silent when I kept forgetting that I was supposed to be quiet and kept talking to people. Also I saw no point doing it when no one even knew what DOS was.
Gays just need to turn to God and be forgiven for this sin called "Homosexuality". The day of silence sounds ridiculous to me.
I love this day, it's a excuse to put duck tape all over my face.
