If you're not going to listen to doctors, who do you go to instead? Herbal remedy stores? Back-alley surgeons? Church, maybe?

Doctors slip up on occasion, but in the vast majority of cases, you're much better off with one than without.
And for the other 1% of the cases, there's always Dr. House.

Indeed. And, with Dr. House, at least you know it isn't lupus. wink

On a more serious note, things like cancer and brain tumors have similar symptoms to far less serious, more common ailments, so it's understandable how a family doctor may not be able to determine such a thing.

And it's not like he can draw some blood, look at it under a microscope and there's a giant neon sign that says CANCER. It's hard enough to diagnose even with the right resources.

I know yopu can't know right away. They need to do a biopsy but it pisses me off that they didn't want to give a permit to do a scan because they were 100% sure it wasn't necessary.

Since I've been in the circumcision debate I've seen quite a large enough amount of stupid doctors being talked about (like ones that say babies have phimosis, an ADULT condition, can't be diagnosed until someone is at least 18 ) , but circumcision is such a horrible cash cow and that's another story.

It is quite difficult anymore to get a good diagnosis that seems right and sets your mind at ease. I have yet to get a clear cut diagnosis for my period issues, gynecologist and doctor seem to either give me the run around with a ton of tests and don't do more even if the results are "good" (since I'm still having issues) , and I haven't like had an ultrasound or any further tests beyond blood , so I don't know how they're just speculating that I'm fine when my period is just not normal D:.

I was about to say the same thing. I hate misinformed American doctors.
