So I made this forum not to recieve pity but to raise conciousness on a very serious issues. So for the past year I have been suffering many headaches and vomiting so I visited a doctor, well actually 4 and they said it was a migrane and bla bla bla. I believed it since I thought that doctors knew everything but these meds weren't working and I was getting worse. So a month ago I was hospitalized and was diagnosed with brain tumor level 2/4 (bad) that means I have cancer. So I was operated a month and 2 weeks ago and took out this tumor which thankfully it didn't spread out too anywhere else. Now I'm in radio therapy so they can take out the remaining 5 % of the tumor. Well my case isn't that bad compared to the other two cases I must mention about stupid doctors and BTW I'm 14 so I'm healing quickly so don't worry.

My friends brother had a tumor in his jaw and the doctor screwed up his face. Now they have to travel to NY to do the whole operation again. The dr that operated him took a piece of his hip and put it in his jaw, that means he is not going to grow taller, and the doctor put 7 screws instead of 3, causing almost a face paralisis and his jaw rotted. As now he is traveling this Sunday so he can be operated again.

My friends 5 yr old cousin was very sick and the doctors said it was sinus but later on they found out it was a brain tumor and it was to late and he passed away. So people, don't trust doctors completely they are humans and can make mistakes so next time you have an issue please talk with experts and see what they say before taking advice from a normal doctor. These are all real stories and I really don't want pity, I aready had enough, I just want to raise awareness at least to some people out there.

Like you said, doctors are human they make mistakes. And the only way to know to go to a specialist is to know what you have. Hence, a normal visit to the doctor is in order. But there is always a need for a second opinion.

Yeah I know but not even a specialist could know if I had a tumor. I took around 20 tests and nothing.

Well tumors are very difficult to determine, especially brain tumors. It's likely they didn't want to frighten you by jumping to the conclusion of cancer if it wasn't. But obviously it was.

If you're not going to listen to doctors, who do you go to instead? Herbal remedy stores? Back-alley surgeons? Church, maybe?

Doctors slip up on occasion, but in the vast majority of cases, you're much better off with one than without.

I'm not saying not to go to one but to have many opinions instead of one. Read better please.

But you seem to suggest is that diagnostic medicine is particularly easy.

While I'm not really an expert on the subject, but when an individual presents himself with any given symptoms, the greater likelyhood is that there are a number of diseases that cause them. When the doctors are faced with such a situation, they might tend to go for the simplest solution likely because the treatment might have less repercussions and may be the more possible answer.

Diagnostic medicine tends to be more trial-and-error than not. You have to be patient, be very detailed with your symptoms, and if you have the means for a second opinion, by all means acquire it. But don't say "normal" doctors are idiots or anything of the sort. It makes you look extemely condescending, as if you know all about the intricacies of what they've spent a large number of years studying.

There's also the fact that generalists have a LOT more diseases and their manifestations to memorize and thus may not be aware of the specific or serious diseases compared to someone who specialises, say, in the digestive system.

I know that doctors aren't idiots but they might slip up so you can't trust everything. The thing is that they were so sure of it they didn't even send me to get a scan of my brain because of their arrogance, Maybe it is different here where I live than in the US. Diagnosing is hard I know but it doesn't mean people must trust so much on their abilities which finish being chaotic. In these 3 cases you see that they trusted and they actually told me IT ISN'T A TUMOR, but thank god my mom didn't listen. If it weren't for my Mom I probably would have died. Doctors are very arrogant and won't admit their mistakes, I know I'm generalizing but it hasn't only happened to me. It is pretty common misdiagnosing here. Well what I learned in this expirience is that doctors are not gods so they may mess up. I'm just pissed that they won't admit their mistake. Like the lady who operated my friends brother ran away from the country instead of facing the mess.

Since I've been in the circumcision debate I've seen quite a large enough amount of stupid doctors being talked about (like ones that say babies have phimosis, an ADULT condition, can't be diagnosed until someone is at least 18 ) , but circumcision is such a horrible cash cow and that's another story.

It is quite difficult anymore to get a good diagnosis that seems right and sets your mind at ease. I have yet to get a clear cut diagnosis for my period issues, gynecologist and doctor seem to either give me the run around with a ton of tests and don't do more even if the results are "good" (since I'm still having issues) , and I haven't like had an ultrasound or any further tests beyond blood , so I don't know how they're just speculating that I'm fine when my period is just not normal D:.

I would ask for some further diagnosis , like an ultrasound, or something that can see inside of some sort, but I fear it'd cost money D:.

Ever since my mother almost died from toxic shock from misdiagnosis my family always asks around. Regardless if someone is a good or bad doctor people will talk. Also if you feel something is wrong or uncomfortable you should do some research, and talk to you're doctor. If they won't talk or dismiss you I suggest changing doctors.

Well, yes... you are generalizing way too much by saying doctors are arrogant and won't admit to their mistakes. You can warn people against such doctors, but you can't label them as such.

If a given diagnoses doesn't seem to be working and this doctor refuses to change his mind, then the only reasonable alternative would be the same one your mother had taken: find another doctor.

Your thread would be a lot more useful if you would warn them against stubborn and arrogant physicians, not by labeling them as being stupid. But you also can't blame your doctors for trying any other alternative to cancer. It's not an easy diagnosis to deal with for both parties, especially when the patient is so young- tumors don't readily occur in such patients. ((This isn't a very informed opinion, not to be taken too seriously- I haven't looked up the data for cancers on infants and young adults compared to the more elderly.))

And for the other 1% of the cases, there's always Dr. House.

I'm sorry you have to go through all this. And I can perfectly understand how you don't trust doctors too much anymore after what happened to you and a few people you are/were close to.
And although I agree to it's always good to get a second opinion on something serious and that you should stand up if a doctor tries to shrug you off, I want to point out that you cannot judge them all based on the mistakes some of them made.
No human being will ever be able to know all symptoms and syndromes and their relation to eachother, not even a doctor. There are simply too many, and it's not like there is a checklist with a 100% accurancy rate.
Yet some are more cautious than others.
My own doctor for example always sends my family memebers and me to someone who specialises in the issue if she is unsure about the cause. Yet sometimes even specialist ******** up. But does this mean my doctor will always make the right decisions? No. She'll make mistakes like we all do, even though she's trying her hardest.
They are only human, people sometimes have a bad day, yet their bad days come with serious consequences. Which is horrible, of course, but it can't be helped.
Again, this is not meant to bring you down at all. I wish you the best of luck with your recovery and hope your future experiences with doctors will turn out slightly more positive.
