Welcome to Gaia! ::

I wasnt sure where else to put this topic, and I know for sure it does not belong at the Forum for questions and assistance.

Anyways, Im currently 17, turning 18 in February 2010.
I took driving lessons during my sophomore year but never quite took the test to get my permit, nor do I have a license.

I was wondering, can I just go straight to my license and take the writing portion for the permit and the driving portion once I turn 18? Somehow like getting my permit and my license at the same time. I read a topic as I googled that stated that it could be done immediately but I needed some clarification.

I apologize if this is posted at the wrong forum!

The permit usually makes you wait at least 6 months before getting your drivers license, but I know you can get your drivers license straight away when you turn 18 and I doubt they have you skip the written test all together, so they probably just have you take both.

If you take it when you're 18, you'll be taking the written test and the driving test together.

I dont mind taking them together, as a matter of fact, Id feel more confident somehow.

Why don't you call up the DMV (or whatever it's called in your area) and make sure? They'd know better than anyone else.
Varies by state.
In Pennsylvania, if you're 18, you can get your permit and then the next day, take the driving test.

Technically.

But it usually doesn't happen, because you have to schedule your driving test six weeks in advance.

In Texas since drivers Ed is separate than being in school, when you get your permit, your information is immediately submitted in the system along with whatever scores you got from the permit test. You don't have to take the written test, I believe, however you do have to take the driving test.

I need to check with a friend regarding this because she took the Drivers Test and she's 19.
Not sure. I think it varies by state.
I think in Maryland, you need to get a permit first (no matter what age you are), wait for nine months or if you're 18 then you can immediately get your license.
