Manga takes me off the world and into a different way of seeing life.

If you go to Japan and are called an Otaku, it's an insult. It isn't a good think over there, it's just what we've made it into.

I've seen videos of japanese people saying that they are Otakus and they didn't seem like they where insulting them selfs.

Some probably do but I was reading a thread from someone who was in Japan for a long time and she was talking about everything. I've also heard it from various other places that it's considered an insult. I think it's just the equivalent to nerd or something.

おたく is definitely an insult. It's a person who is obsessed with something (can be anything, not just animanga) to the point where they don't want to do anything else, including leaving their house unless they're attending something relevant to their obsession.

It's not exactly a healthy thing. D:

My cousin is an otaku; he lives in Yokohama... It's sad because he's so unhealthily obsessed.

Otaku, in Japanese, means either geek or house...

But mainly geek...

Being called a geek in the West is an insult... But some people will proudly say "I'm a geek!" I'm one of them... I'm also a proud otaku...

But nontheless, otaku is an insult in Japan...

I hate it. I hate people who live devoted to a fandom. It's disgusting. You need things outside of your life besides ******** cartoons, man.

Geek Culture in America is equally disgusting. I say this as somebody with the complete series of Trigun and Star Trek: The Animated Series. Otaku, and the American Geek culture are ******** stains on our society.
