Sorry, it's not the 60's anymore. Everybody now has to go to college if they want to make a stable career, even if it's not their thing. =(

It's kind of sad, really, because it now makes competition for college really difficult, and college more expensive overall.

Are you saying that "it's not the 60's" quote because I am a women because if so you are very mistaken.
No, she's saying that because back then you only went to college if you wanted a technical career. Now, the amount of people not going to college is pretty much the same as the unemployment rate in the united states. Coincidence?

Amount of people that haven't gone to college =/= unemployment.
and in the darkened underpass, i thought, 'oh god, my chance has come at last...'

I really don't think college necessary in all situations, but my opinion of it has generally improved some.

In middle and high school, I thought I was too dumb or too lazy to go to college, like that it'd just be wasted. I thought that whatever I could learn in college would be too much for me to take on, and that it would just make things more difficult for me.

Then, I started actually researching college, and I ended up in a class that gives me 12 free college credits at my local community college, that are transferable to most universities and college. I started researching it, and I realized that maybe I really do deserve to push myself to learn a real occupation anyways. I still dislike parents who shove college on their children, and people who treat it like it's an absolute obligation, but I think I deserve the effort I'll exert on it.

...but then a strange fear gripped me, and i just couldn't ask.
University and College aren't really like Highschool, at least not in my experience.
You're given a lot more free reign and independence. You also have the option of having the teachers involved in your education, or going at it alone.
I'd advise you to at least try college out before concluding it's not for you, it's worth a shot.
I personally think school is boring and really easy. There are plenty of things you can do without college degrees but those are getting smaller and smaller. School might be necessary to do what you want to do. I know a lot people who hate High School and enjoy College/University. Vice Versa. If you want to travel. Join the Navy. Depending on Score you will get the MGIB or the ACF which gives quite a bit of money for college.

I've actually heard that it is getting really hard to get jobs after College. People get put into debt because they can't find a job and they've looked everywhere and by the time they can get a job it's been so long their schooling is obsolete.
Soul searching? I've been unable to go to college this year for it's stupid mess up, but I've been contemplating a few things, sure.
And that's a good thing for me.
I found out I'd really hate to go into accounting, my intended career path.
Yeah the well for jobs in general is drying up, which sucks. It does make it a pain in the a** to pay off school debt. Thankfully most of my schooling thus far has been handled by grants, I swear they are like a god send.

I swear that everyone going to college/university should at least put in for grants and see what happens, it can't hurt to try...but it can help.

That is a lot of time off. It is better to get it over with quickly, well in my opinion.

but I aready burned out in the last year of high school,I don't want to go into college burned out
That, my friend, is what we call senioritis.

Last year, when the class ranks were announced for my high school, my entire group of friends, including me, just quit. We were making card houses during notes, we stopped going on Fridays altogether, and bombed every single test we got.

Why? Because we just didn't care anymore. We were done, we had our ranks, some of us were in the top 10, the rest were within the top 20%. It didn't matter that we worked our asses off all 4 years, we burned out.

Then we spent a few months away from learning.

All of us are either in boot camp, or college.

Honestly, I'm not saying you have to go to college, it's not for everyone, but I'm someone who at least recommends a trade school or something.
Most of you guys obviously haven't lived in the real world to understand that a college degree does NOT guarantee higher income. I don't have a degree but I still make a six figure income.

You need to find a job that suits you and your needs. If college is not for you, maybe you should try trade school or apprenticeships. You can still make an excellent living without having to step foot in a college classroom.

Soul searching is expensive, traveling is expensive, and marriage is expensive. I'd hold off until you have some money saved.
soul searching to me my mean going to the town over or the day in the woods

I tried college, and it just wasn't for me. Just make sure you have a job, and are able to support yourself financially first. THere are still a good hunk of jobs out there available to those without a degree. They may start out as being as lame jobs, but if you're lucky and skillful than you could move up.

Don't rely on a man either, that's just tacky.
I don't need a man to help me,I want a man big diffrents

if you want to get married and travel a bit, you are going to need money. if you want money, you are going to have to get a decent job. if you want a decent job, you are probably going to have to go to college. : S

i think you should go to college. it's almost a necessity these days. unless you are content to live out your life with very little money and working a brainless job, i would go. or at least go to vocational school.

as i said, if you want to travel, you are going to need money. where do you plan to get the money to travel? a husband? that's not a good bet, really. what if you don't find a husband that has a lot of money, one that can support you and your traveling? a lot of successful men only want successful women, ie: women with good jobs and a college degree.

if you really, really cannot handle college because you are terrible at school, that's fine--but don't' expect a life of travel and of luxery. you'll probaby be living paycheck to paycheck and what not.

I'd like to know how long you've been living in reality.

Or do you still live in a college dorm?

Well, the vast majority of people in the world, do not get far without a secondary education.

You need at least a trade or vocation at this point nowadays. You can get lucky and find a great job right after high school, but even before college was a huge thing, most of those jobs were very hard.

A lot of people with college degrees get nowhere until graduate school. Even a bachelors at this point is almost completely useless for most things.

College degree =/= trade school/vocational training.
