And they were pretty upset.
It's not that I don't want to get married,
I just don't want a legal marriage.
I want to buy fireworks and have a bonfire with lots of friends and dancing and such.
More like a celebration of love or something.
And exchange rings we each made for each other.
I don't know.
I just don't know why the traditional thing sounds all that great.
I mean, I'm only 16. There is the chance that I'll change my mind in the future.
I'm not against marriage. It seems pretty cool and everyones happy.
I just don't think its for me.
And my parents won't accept that.

You know, as long as you have an official person and follow all the rules, that celebration could be a legally binding marriage.

I don't know why people are into the traditional marriage ceremony either. Yours sounds much better. <3 I'm 19 and I don't want to get married, either.
Like you said you're only 16... You might change your mind and you might not. Tell your parents "Slow your roll speed bump, I might change my mind. It's my life future"
It really isn't their choice in the matter. I agree that your way sounds a whole lot more fun. Your ceremony should be whatever you want. Tradition doesn't always equal better.

You should remind your parents that... at the end of the day... They're ******** wrong.

As long as you're registered with the state, you can celebrate however you want. Hell, can I come? That sounds like a lot of fun! XD
Well it's up to you, no one can make your desicions for you.
So if your parents don't like it, they don't have to be there, simple as that.

It's your choice. Screw them if they can't let you live life.

I don't want a traditional marriage either.
Definitely not in a church, though I have a feeling my boyfriend would object to that.
He's considerably more religious than I am.
Your parents....sound like dicks.

I for one would love a big huge traditional wedding in a beautiful church, Gothic preferably (I have a strong disdain for contemporary church architecture, think it's too bland to be a church) with fancy white dress and...well you get the picture. Fairy-tale weddings are my style. BUT

Traditional marriages aren't for everyone.
But I don't think you should be worrying about your marriage quite yet.
There's a lot more of life to experience before you settle down.

Simply explain that to your parents and it should be fine.

However, I don't think anyone here can really help you with the fact your parents disapprove of what you want your wedding to be like. There may be underlying reasons why they'd rather you go a more traditional route (i.e. religious reasons etc.)

I love my parents though.
I just want them to come to accept the fact I don't want the tradtional marriage for myself.

Sometimes parents just don't accept things?
Honestly, love, I really cannot give you any advice on how to make your parents accept your views.
Like I said, they may have some underlying issue about the way you want your wedding to be.

First off, are your parents religious? If so what religion and what sect?

That's not really what I meant.
Things like that just make me jump to the conclusion that they're closed-minded.
I'm sure if you give them time they'll accept it though. =/
