Who has the time to make lunches? Other than plain old boring sandwiches everyone's sick of.

Why are there so many recipe books just on the topic of lunchbox, why they take about an hour each to make? And then you can't bring them to school most of the time because of the 4hr meat rule.

How do you solve this issue?

I personally don't really eat lunch, usually just a carton of milk and a chocolate bar. Or I buy my lunch.

Fruit salad doesn't take all that much work and you can have it for lunch for a week, you just need to make something you can eat over a longer period of time rather than an hour on each lunch.

The ones in the carton aren't very nice and very high in sugar. Fruit salad doesn't seem to last because some of the fruits like strawberries last only for about 3 days.

Ya if you are feeding me week old fruit salad pretty sure id slap you around for it
Fruit salad will not keep for a week sorry bud

When I started training for work and would have a proper lunch during the day I used to make my own lunches. I generally aimed for something vegetarian, that way you don't have to worry about it going all icky if it can't be refrigerated - Luckily, I had a fridge at work so that didn't matter too much but its always better to be safe than sorry.

One other thing I could suggest doing is maybe putting away some time on the weekend or an afternoon after work/school to make a few things that you could put in your lunchbox that won't go off straight away. Sometimes I still make cookies and cupcakes and things which my boyfriend will put in a lunchbox before he dashes out the door at 6am.

You also may want to take a look into bento. Bento is made to be in a lunchbox and unrefrigerated and although it may seem like it takes too long to make the food you can always make it in advance, keep it in your fridge and then just dish it up as necessary before you go to school.

4hr meat rule, *cough* That is a standard i live by, but i don't think we're talking about the same thing.. *cough*

Ok so... you make yourself a sandwich or a wrap.. you start at what 8am? you eat at what 12? Darn.. that sure doesn't seem to work out now does it.. who the hell invented this rule, kids these days are whiny because of it. Packed lunches have worked for decades, why the heck doesn't it work now?

On another note: violent programing is good for children, that way they know whats going to happen to them when you tell them they'll get a knuckle if do that again, more than likely they will respond with DOH, instead of, I have my rights!

Make a non boring sandwich. Or bring leftovers or things that need to be cold in a lunchbox that has room for ice packs.

I ate small lunches all through my senior high only cause I could never find something in the mornings not make lunch but now that I'm outta high school I realize all the options I never noticed before that would have been so simple its sad.

For example, even just toasting your bread once in a while can mix things up enough to make lunch not boring. And changing what you have. A Tuna sandwich one day, PB&J next, then ham and cheese, etc etc. And don't forget to add in things like chips, a candy bar, some ice cream, if you school has it, soda or juice or milk. Heck you can bring a thermos (sp?) with soup even! or make sushi or something.

And Yes Fruit Salad can. Just depends on what you put in your fruit salad.

You can get them in cartons? I said make fruit salad.

I thought strawberries lasted longer, but regardless, you can make it without strawberries and if you must have strawberries you can just add them into each serve, or just make two small ones a week... it's not really all that hard to cut up a banana, apple, orange and chuck in some grapes and pieces of melon.

If you don't like that idea there are plenty of food you can cook that keep for a while, like make your own noodle salad or tabouleh or fried rice or whatever...

I know imma just start ranting but seriously
You can for example make your own granola bar type things
Or maybe make yourself some cheap out of the box spice cake to replace the choco bar
Yogurt and granola good deal
Whole fruit and some bulk nuts...
Alot of ways you can go at it
All depends on what your looking for energy or actuall nutrition

...me, I have like two boxes of couscous in my pantry and I grow parsley on my windowsill, but they generally sell that s**t in stores, you just have to buy it like you would buy eggs or apples or what have you.

Just saying it is easier to build lunches on the go with things you already have
If you want to take that route I would say ya go shopping
Lots of shyt you can buy , make and eat for lunchbox stuffs
Buying lunch is about convenience? If so many of the things you would buy can be made at home
If you are like Chitty and have a pantry with all sorts of good things in it

Simplicity, and it works.

The meat thing, if a school really wanted to change that - it would be easy enough, even if it was enforced by province or state..
They could just change the lunch hour to start at 11:30.. mind boggling.. isn't it.
