Yes I've been doing it for a while now, and I seriously need to stop. It's killing me, sometimes I get so depressed. I want to be with him, but I know I probably never will be. I get this ray of hope, and then it gets crushed everytime I realize that I am not the one for him. I can't get over him though. No matter how hard I try. I think I'm way in over my head, and I'm drowing in this sea of tourmenting love, where there is no help in sight.

It might not be unhealthy, if its making you happy. It would be considered unhealthy in the sense that you might no longer know what is reality, which could mean that you have a form of schizophrenia which is a result of an enlargement of the butterfly in your brain (Aka the butterfly effect). But even then, health wise, you might be just fine.

User ImageUser Image

Quick question. Are we assuming that something that makes someone happy can not be unhealthy, or that in order for something to be healthy it must also make you happy?

I honestly just want some clearity here!

It can be unhealthy, but were talking mentally here. If you know a mental trick that makes you happy then s**t, go for it.
If pretending to see a cheerleader get horribly mutilated makes you smile, then why not? As long as you dont do it, its not hurting anyone and its benefiting you.
Know what I mean, jellybean?

You actually just said that it is ok to think about someone being mutilated as long as you are not doing it and it makes you happy?

Thoughts become action, action become habits, and habits become charcater.

We should practice retrain when finding pleasure in something. We should be critical about things. Just because something brings you pleasure (makes you happy) does not mean it is good for you. I think we should not just seek happiness, but inquire as to why something makes us happy.
Thats unhealthy.
No I havent done it.

Get yourself to a shrink.

Yeah I did just say that.
If theyre only thinking it then theyre doing just that, im sure that most people know the difference between what they see in their head and reality. We shouldnt limit our happiness, and we shouldnt limit our thoughts. Telling ourselves to not think a certain thing is not a matter of being unable to question something, you can still question why you are thinking this certain thing. If you do limit yourself then you should question why you limit yourself.
If I like to think about cannibals eating children, but am not cannibalistic myself, am I 100% going to make a habit and commit it? I highly doubt it. I know the difference between reality and my imagination.
Happiness in your mind can lead to healthiness of the body. Its the same concept when doctors tell old people that being happy, or thinking happy thoughts, can help you live longer. If thinking you are in a relationship makes you happy, and you know that you really arent in a relationship, I do not see any physical downsides to it. That is where I can see the effect of being mentally happy being considered healthy.
I also never said we should only seek happiness, but if theres an opportunity for some happiness, why not take it?
Also, why try bottling someones thoughts? If theyre going to do it, punish them for doing it not for thinking it. If theyre just thinking about it for themselves then whats the problem?
Im not sure if I offended you, its hard to tell tonality on the internet. But this is just a concept, what goes on in your mind shouldnt be limited. If what goes on in the mind turns into action then limit the action, not the mind...well, not like anyone could limit anothers mind.. or maybe they could. That bit, I just dont know.

Erm, no. Can't say I've ever done that or heard about someone doing it. Unless- wait, I know Thomas Jefferson was one of my old teacher's 'historical boyfriends', and when I was like, in middle school there were some girls who thought they were dating like the actor who played spiderman online, but, no, not offhand. Interesting idea though.
