Look, James, my intent in making this thread was not and is not to demand that the religious come enjoy the freedom of an irreligious life, nor was it to make the world any better or worse for homosexuals. I am expressing extreme annoyance at those in favour of homosexual rights claiming that homosexuality is not sinful, as it is not something they can rightly say, is completely irrelevant to the discussion, and just serves to give religious conviction and the concept of sin more apparent weight and legitimacy in the public arena. ******** that.
As for morality, we've had this conversation before and morality is wholly subjective. From a religious standpoint and within a religious framework, it simply isn't immoral to disapprove of homosexuality; it is, in fact positively moral to publicly execute homosexuals just as the bloody campaigns of rape and pillage led by the ancient Hebrew tribes against their neighbours and indeed segments of their own population were completely moral. Now, from a secular humanist standpoint, the opposite is true. It is not proper to say that within the context of a religion, homosexuality is, contrary to the dictates of that faith, morally neutral. It is proper to say that any given religion is a crock of s**t and we will not stand for it governing our society. Also, while I absolutely, and without a hint of apology, say that the religious should be free to be religious, the irreligious should also and must also be free to constantly challenge and wear down their faith. That isn't what this thread is for, and I can only apologise for not turning every single one of my posts on this site ever into an attack on religious belief.
