Hijab for a petition?

I've come by petitions for many things. Gaia has such a wide vareity of items, from saris, to automail, to the little Sailor Moon pigtails.

I'm thinking of starting a hijab petition, I'm just not sure how. Do I need people to start it with?

For those who don't know, hijab is that thing that cover's many women's hair and neck in the presence of unrelated men. It's for modesty, and it is an important thing to Muslim women.

I want to request that people do not say things to mock me, hijab, or Islam. This isn't an opening for attacks, heated debates, or arguements about faith. Civil and open-minded discussions are fine, but rudeness ain't cool.

Personally, I wear hijab, and since I'm sure there are other Muslim women on this site, hijabi or not, I was thinking that perhaps Gaia could add some hijab items.

So, the question is, how would I go about starting a petition like this? Is this the wrong forum to ask? help me, I've been on Gaia for so long but I'm not very fluent with the forums. =D;; Please and thank you.

That's a cool idea. I don't know how one would go about it though... maybe just post a thread asking who would support it, collect a list of usernames, and then contact an admin saying "all of the following people feel there should be some kind of headscarf available". It might also be a good idea to provide them with pictures and descriptions of what exactly you're looking for, as well as the reason for the request. Definitely point out to them that it doesn't have to be a religious item, because a headscarf is something that many women wear for fashion as well, so it would probably appeal to more than just Muslim users.

That's just my suggestion, but like I say I've never tried anything like that. Good luck!

That is so cool! I have a question though- How do you put it on? I read this book where the main character was Muslim and she wore a hijab but I didn't understand how she put it on.

I wanted to see what it felt like. I like it, makes me calm more calm than I usually am (I clam up around people a lot, but wearing that made me forget most of the people around me). 3nodding

The mods pay a lot of attention to popular petitions. I can't really give you advice on how to make one, but you could definitely get support from the support thread in the LD and other Muslim groups on Gaia, as well as us random floating supporters.

It would be a great item for users who would like being modest, and they are also highly fashionable, and I could see it growing quickly popular on gaia.

My best suggesstion is waiting for another item contest to come up and make a beautiful hijab illustration for it.

@Majnooni: That's very helpful advice, thank you jazakallah khairun. I will definitely try that. Have you ever heard of the non-Muslim hijabi on youtube? Girl knows more hijab styles than most muslim women I know. It's such an integral thing, and full of diversity between different parts of the World and different people. (It might even need it's own store. o_o)

@Sirree X3: Well, there are different techniques and ways. Sometimes we "invent" ways that are easy for us.

Me, it depends on the hijab I weak, the way it looks and the fabric. I usualyl wear my silk underscarf (So I don't go bald overtime lol) and then wrap the scarf around. If it's a long, light fabric, usually I wrap it around a few times. If it's a little tougher, or shorter, i usually wrap it around once. And hijab pins are great, safety pins ruin delicate fabric. :<
