People will like and dislike whatever they want. Only when it physically affects me is when I should start caring.

I live in an area that is similar to the OP's situation. My opinion I know is unpopular, but I stand by it.

My personal thought on this, is that a lot of people are developing sexual fetishes and then claiming that it is their sexuality. THeir sexuality then becomes their identity, and they struggle to find purpose in their life through their sexual fetish.

I personally had a strong sexual desire toward women to the point where I was basically a lesbian. I would only fantasize about women, watch porn about women, and want relationships with women. I only really liked one guy, who I actually started a relationship with and claimed bisexuality. Now, I understand that it was a gradual change of my mind based on past sexual experiences and fetish.

After I stopped feeding my sexual fantasies, they totally stopped. It was kind of like a sexual fast or cleanse. I didn't have sex or actively seek out fantasies about sex at all for around 5 months. I am not a lesbian or a bisexual, I am what nature made me to be, not what my mind created. I do not find my identity in my heterosexuality as i tried to find an identity in my past sexual fantasies. It's what my body is made to do, and in the end what I will choose whether my past fantasies wanted it or not.

How about emotional attraction? I don't feel sexual attraction... at all. Emotionally, I'm attracted to people regardless of sex, and find some people attractive physically regardless of sex.
Rendering sexuality merely, well, sexual, it can be stripped to that. But there is a lot more to sexuality than wanting to have sex with someone.

Emotional attraction is irrelevant as sexuality is about whatbyounare sexually attracted to, hence sexuality.
I can say I have fallen in love with both a man and a woman, but I am only sexually attracted to women.

Umm, lol, no. Are we talking about sexual orientations or just simply sexuality? Because I'm talking about orientations, since the implication of the poster was that homosexuality is a fetish. Sexual orientations include emotional aspect, romantic attraction, as well. What we want to bone is merely an aspect of human sexuality as a whole.

1. I am the poster.
2. She is obviously ignorant to think that sexuality is a fetish that someone can simply get over.
A persons sexuality is what they are sexually attracted to. Sex. Sex sex sex. What gender they find PHYSICALLY attractive. That is what sexuality is. What you chose to have relationships with is not relevant to sexuality. That is what you desire emotionally. Sex is what you desire psychologically.

1. I quoted Ossofoo, referred to them, so they are the poster. You're OP, I remember you.

2. I will quote this to you from APA.
Quote:
What is sexual orientation?

Sexual orientation refers to an enduring pattern of emotional, romantic, and/or sexual attractions to men, women, or both sexes. Sexual orientation also refers to a person's sense of identity based on those attractions, related behaviors, and membership in a community of others who share those attractions.
[...]
Sexual orientation is usually discussed in terms of three categories: heterosexual (having emotional, romantic, or sexual attractions to members of the other sex), gay/lesbian (having emotional, romantic, or sexual attractions to members of one's own sex), and bisexual (having emotional, romantic, or sexual attractions to both men and women).

yum_tea Have you ever stopped to consider that this is just a case of stupid teenagers being, well...stupid teenagers? Seriously, everyone is a complete ******** during their adolescence, I don't know why any kind of irrational behavior from this age group would be surprising to anyone.

Heterosexuals are normal - Axiom

Are you implying that homosexuals aren't?

Psychology sees "Normal" as something that includes 60% of the group being studied. So if you're comparing sexuality, homosexuality is not normal.

yum_tea Except psychologists have not treated homosexuality as a psychological abnormality since the 70s. You really should get with the times.

I'm actually surprised at the number of people at my school who don't bandwagon and claim to be part of the LGBT community.
There's the few who are always into the latest fad sort of thing, but excluding them, there's no more than a small handful of people pretending.

You're talking to someone with a psychology degree, kid. Homosexualilt is no longer treated as a mental illness, but anything that doesn't include at least 60% of the study group is not classified as normal. Now, since roughly 3-4% of the population is homosexual, it is said that homosexuality is not normal.
Well aren't you making a handful of big, sweeping generalizations?

I didn't read all of it, but basically you're hurt because obviously you're original and different from everyone else, right?
You're the only one, or one of the few who actually knows who they are.

I'm gay and I have very few gay friends, most everyone I know is straight. When I meet new people, I do tell them or at least hint that I'm gay, because if they're going to have a problem with it, I want to know right now, before I have any further contact with them. I don't see how that's unreasonable.
Same, I usually cross my fingers or talk like a ghetto black chick, right in a conversation , just so they know that I'm gay.

I don't have alot of gay friends... I think... Mostly all the gay guys in my school are in the closet, I only find out if I kiss them rolleyes

That's not quite what I mean. It's just even when these kids are around other people that they KNOW are also gay or just don't care, they're just all "Blah blah blah, yeahh I'm lesbian btw." and it feels as if it's all they talk about, and they constantly ask other kids in the class about their sexualities.

And as for the talking like a black woman, that's something that does particularly annoy me, but I have friends who do it and it's something I tolerate and can laugh about. But as anyone can imagine, being in a school where almost ever boy talks like that, it can become pretty irritating.
It kind of ticks me ad my friends off when I see my white best friend (no offense) try and talk like a stereotypical black woman , they just don't have the correct tone/accent/pitch to pull it off XD.
that sucks. in my school there were only like 3 gay guys, no gay girls and one boy who is gay and dressed like a girl.

i dont have anything against gays i just don't like seeing them around or gay couples. i wanna live in a world where everyone is normal/are attracted to the right (opposite) sex, but i can't have that so whatever.

but, in a way gays are good for us and our world. god's way of "population control" and all.
I've met a few people who didn't want to talk to me after they found out I was in a heterosexual relationship and have no interest in having a homosexual relationship. Their reasoning was that I was closed minded because I was focussing on one gender.
Ironic, that opinion of theirs made me not want to hang out with them because not wanting to talk with anyone with other sexual interests than you seems closed minded to me.

But honestly, I met more gay/bi people who had no problems with other people being straight.

Boy, that's a bit ignorant.
The point of the post is to discuss "Hererophobes"
And the only real thing that I expressed was actually upsetting me throughout the thread is that is the creation of the obnoxious stereotypes that come from these foe gay kids.

You're really dumb, and you're not cool for thinking you know my type, because obviously you don't.

What degree? I am quarters away from my BA in psychology and counseling and I have not run into this concept of "normal? Where did you read/learn it from? This is what I am familiar with when it comes to what is normal and what is not. As normal is a bell curve and people fall within certain quadrants. While this is simply test scores it can be applied to socially accepted behaviors, which is what "normal" is a script of socially formed and accepted behaviors.

Glossary of Psychological Terms
Normal curve The symmetrical curve that represents the distribution of scores on many psychological attributes; allows researchers to make judgments of how unusual an observation or result is.

I do feel like all of a sudden being bisexual and/or gay has been increasing. To me it seems that a lot of kids at my school are gay for like a month and then they actually admit that "I'm done with the whole gay thing." It's almost as if it really is a fad or another trend. It makes me think that people can actually choose their sexuality.
I believe it is a choice.
I did not wake up one day, get out of bed, and say to myself "Herm... I think I am going to like v****a AND penises today". Being bi was no choice of mine.

Edit: Do tell, when did you decide to be straight? I mean really if sexuality is choice, lets not exclude heterosexual folk.

I don't really think it is a choice though... I tried to be compleatly straight but it just wasn't working. I just don't see guys the same way I see girls. No matter how hard I tried I couldnt help but have stronger feelings for girls. I only questioned if it was a choice because I clearly saw people choosing to be gay and then choosing not to be.
