For those of you who aren't from Canada (so the majority) today is our Thanksgiving.

I've heard that we don't take Thanksgiving as seriously as the US does, like no one decorates or anything and besides families sitting together for a meal there's no real celebration per se.

My family's never really made a big deal out of thanksgiving. I don't even think we're having turkey tonight.

What do you think of this holiday?

BONUS:Anyone know why Canada celebrates it a month early?

Canada is still on the Julian calendar.

What calendar does the US use? O: I feel like someone explained this to me in the past but that was a long time ago.

We use the gregorian calendar.

Thanksgiving is actually a European Christian holiday that coincided with fasting rituals. Eventually it came to America as a family holiday. Nothing you hear about American Thanksgiving history is one bit true.

Anyway, Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

My family used to have turkey every year and now we just have a ham or something. My mom had more kids when her older ones are mostly all moved out so it's hard to get us all in one place now.
My fiance and I had thanksgiving on our own this year for the first time, the last 5 years I've been having it with his family.

This year we didn't do anything though. His parents don't want us getting married and I sent the invitations out a week ago and since they'll have them by now we decided we didn't want to face his entire family so soon haha...
And I didn't want to cook so we ordered Chinese food.
I think thanksgiving is actually tomorrow? But everywhere is going to be closed so we had dinner tonight.

I put a hand turkey on the outside of our apartment door to be festive though.

Is it because Canadian pilgrims got hungry sooner?
-fail-

Anyway, I love tofurky (tofu turkey)with moist vegan stuffing.
White mashed potatoes with gravy.
Whole-berry cranberry sauce.
Corn on the cob with coconut oil and salt.
Beans and rice (Caribbean style).

Stop making me hungry so early in the year!

Im from the US and i had no clue people decorated for it. They do for halloween, but not thanksgiving. My family only celebrates it by having a huge dinner together. When on my own, i dont think ill be celebrating it as much. Celebrating the mass murders of nearly half my family doesnt appeal to me

oh. joy. commercialized traditional lie to cover up the horrors of colonialism and genocide day. yippee.

I really think very ill of this holiday. people swallow up the happy faerie-tale-ending story like candy, but it's complete garbage, utter crap. I think it would do everybody some good to ask any Native American friends they have, who actually live on a reservation, what they think of thanksgiving.
