Sure, people can lose weight. Anyone who starves themselves with a diet loses weight. But it comes back. It comes back and then some in most cases. People who lose weight and keep it off for more than 5 years are extremely rare. Diets and excercise cannot change genetics. Go back and read the first post please.
Yay for health and happiness over weight or size...

Yay indeed! It's too bad its' such a rare thing.

How about this: I love my feet. They're one of my favorite parts of my body. What part of your body do YOU love?

who said ANYTHING about starving themselves?
starving yourself on purpose is called 'anorexia' which is a MENTAL disorder.
please don't even try to use that as an argument.

it doesn't matter if you have bad genetics, everyone can and will loose wight if they try. fat people will need to go on a diet for longer. some people who are obese have problems with moving, ans because of that, it could take years and years before they can exercise normally.
I have the type of genetics that makes it hard for me to gain weight. BUT, i know that if i try hard, i can gain as much as i want. i also have problems with loosing weight, if i'd like that, but it is never ever impossible to loose weight [unless you're 1000 pounds, and can't get out of bed.]

anyways.
what part of my body i love?
what a tough one 4laugh
i love my lips, and my breasts. ^^

4. Diets don’t work. No, really, not even if you don't call them diets. If you want to tell me about how YOUR diet totally worked, do me a favor and wait until you’ve kept all the weight off for five years. Not one year, not four years, five years. And if you’ve kept it off for that long, congratulations. You’re literally a freak of nature.

5. Given that diets don’t work in the long-term for the vast, vast majority of people, even if obesity in and of itself were a health crisis, how the ******** would you propose we solve it?

6. Most fat people have already dieted repeatedly. And sadly, it’s likely that the dieting will cause more health problems than the fat did.
Please go read these before you post anymore. Thanks! smile
Yay for lips! I love my breasts too. ^^ I was lucky; after the baby was born they stayed pretty fabulous. ^^

Yes, it does come back.
Because these people decide "Oh I have reached my target weight, now I'm going to go back to eating two or three times my daily recomended amount of everything bad for me".
This thread totally rocks.

I'm so sick of hearing how fat is unhealthy. My mom is overweight, I'm average weight and she kicks my a** when it comes to health any day. d:

I agree. This thread does rock.

And I'm so sick of hearing that too. I'm overweight, but meh. XP My weight doesn't seem to come off no matter what I do.. But at least I'm happy, and no, I don't believe the bullshit of "attractive to people who are like me" because my lover, WereRetty, is average weight, so HAH! |:

Seriously.. No one's claiming that fad diets like Atkins or South Beach are good ways to live.. but it ISN'T about fad diets, it's about sticking to a healthy, low-calorie diet FOR GOOD. It's not about dieting for a year and expecting to keep the weight off.. how about you stick to a healthy regimen of leafy greens, lean white meat and fish, and fruit? People consider that a DIET, but that's how you should LIVE every day if your weight is that big of a concern.

No matter what your problem is, if you eat very healthy and you exercise, there's no reason you cannot lose weight. You might never be Twiggy, but you can stop resembling a land whale. Really fat people are masters at making excuses for why they're so fat, but it comes down to self-control and a commitment to health and exercise. Cut the fat and bad carbs out, quit drinking any beverage that has calories except for skim or 1% milk (and no diet soda, either!), intake 1600-1800 calories per day, and you'll lose weight.

Thanks for the positive feedback, WereRatty and The Horror Queen! heart

This isn't a thread to debate whether or not diets work or whether or not fat people are good/bad/whatever. This is a thread about health ANY size and loving yourself, your Self, no matter how big, or small, you are.

Okay, and I wouldnt love myself if I allowed myself to become a diabetic lard arse with a heart condition as according to several blogs being fat will make me more attractive and prevent those things from happening.
God, all I need now is a MacDonalds next door so that I can get in a low mileage car and drive to it too buy four BigMac's. That way I can prevent diabetes and cure my Dads. Shame my Grand fathers arn't still alive to share, that way I they wouldnt have had their lives cut short by a heart attack and diabetes respectivly.

If all you're going to do is be an a**, Ivan, you're not welcome here.
surprised Hi: There are merits to most of the issues that are raised here. I can only go by my own experience: I spent years trying to gain weight (I would probably be considered anorexic, except that I eat like a pig) and took so many people's advice on what to do to gain it and did not do so for many years (when I was 13 I weighed around 45 - 48 pounds). I ate ice cream several times a day, I took protein drinks, I even went to the doctor who prescribed some pills that were supposed to help me by slowing down my metabolism. It didn't work.....Two years ago, I did start to gain weight (maybe all those things worked all of the sudden??? lol ) and 8 months ago I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2. Go figure...I had to loose a lot of the weight I gained because my doctor said it contributed to the diabetes. I have the diabetes under control now.. I agree that there are specific body types and that "fat" is in the eyes of the beholder. Many cultures consider large women beautiful and skinny women lacking in beauty...

I'm sorry, does it upset you that I think everything your telling us is wrong and need to question it rather than following like... what was the term used earlier... "A sheeple"
(Aside from the BMI is bullshit argument anyway)

It upsets me that you're overly harsh in your criticisms of fat people and that you're pulling the "I'm right, you're wrong" arguement. Have. you. read. the. links. on. the. front. page? Obviously I know you CAN read, you're just choosing not too. Please read them, digest the information, and come back. If you chose to keep ignoring the information I've provided, the only conclusion I can draw is that you choose to remain ignorant.
