@OP-Kuddos on making this thread!!! Oh, my fiance says kuddos too dramallama

Haha, thanks. xD I was just bored, and felt that it was a valid support thread. :B

It did! While teens or anyone gets engaged for stupid reasons than no I don't support them but if they are truly in love and are mature about it and have a way to live than yes it is fine by me.

Off the top of my head I don't believe a guy should marry a girl just because he got her knocked up. Like that shouldn't be his first or only reason to marry her. It is will or usually wind up in divorce.

I agree again. xD Pregnancy shouldn't dictate love, however it will tie the two together for life, it is by no means a cause for rushing love or forcing bonds.
Okay, I'm not being unsupportive with this, but I have a few questions to ask that I never quite understood and I guess this would be as good of a place to ask?

What makes it so much different between being engaged and dating, when you can't legally get married? I guess I just don't understand why people get engaged when they can't get married... and i guess I don't understand why an engagement is so long..?

Whats the difference between an engagement ring and a promise ring, if the promise is to marry?

I just don't understand most things I guess..
But I do feel like if the couple is mature enough, then its fine. I just don't exactly think MOST people have the right state of mind about it... not saying everyone does.
Too many people give the whole "Engaged and underaged" thing a bad image when they run around with their ring after a few weeks -___-;

Well, even in most older relationships, the engagement period usually last for a while. Some are actively planning, some are waiting to begin.

I never really saw any point to promise rings personally. Not when engagement rings exists. Maybe it's just about degrees of engagement or something? I dunno.

I also agree that maturity should definitely be a factor. As I said before, I knew a girl like that, she ultimately just made herself look silly. =/

Exactly and divorce can be pricey. Well not for me. God forbid but if it did happen my mom is friends with a divorce attorney. She helped my mom with her divorce.

That's pretty lucky. :P My mom went broke financing her divorce from my father. They need to have better help for things like that. D:

For me getting engaged even though I can't get married without parental consent by time I get married I won't need my mother to sign. I also want to wait a year because a wedding for me will take ALOT of time because I want things to be perfect which means I have a lot of details to work out. I am not shovling out money for a wedding planner either. Though I could afford it, but no one can make my fiance's and I's perfect wedding except me. With a promise ring I think it is a promise to get engaged to get married and engaged is to get married. If it is a promise to get married than idk really. It depends on a person's view I guess. I understand most teens have this glam view of marriage when really it is as tough or a easy as you want to make it. Marriage isn't easy but a couple can make it easier if they know each other inside and out and understanding everything involved. Maturity is a must that is 100% must! Geesh I hope I made sense with eveything!

Eh, I still don't completely understand. I can see if the wedding is being planned, but whats the point of being engaged when you have no real time for the marriage in mind? Its pretty much dating with the thought of getting married, isn't it...

Maybe I'm just old fashioned? I dunno.

I think the point with promise rings is a lower stage of engagement, but you don't call each other fiancee and stuff...

I think I've just had really negative experiences with young engagements, and lately people are pressuring me that if I loved my boyfriend we'd be engaged.. but its not for everyone :/

Some people might feel that way about it. I think engagement is different for different people. To me it's saying that we ARE going to get married, it's just a matter of time.

I'm sorry you're being pressured, people like that are idiots. Some people never marry at all. It's not a necessary part of a relationship.
I am engaged and underage. 19 soon to be 20. He is 24. We met at college and just.. "clicked" We engaged in 4 months of dating (some call it stupid but whatever they can suck it) We moved in after 5 months, and we are happily enjoying our engagement. We are on the same emotional level, and he is all I have ever wanted.

I was proposed to on the bow of a sloop he sails on. pirate

Congratulations! It's stupid how some people put a time limit on love. It's rather rediculous. D:

Pirate couple, lol. x3
I'm 16 (turning 17 this year) and engaged. :3
Though we don't really plan to announce our marriage until we are over 21, since my parents would literally probably try and kill him. And we want to have a place of our own and stable income.

Yup, I like to sail on a 103ft Topsail Ketch, he sails on a shorter 70ft Sloop. I couldn't be happier really. I hate it when people go warglb blah angry face! >.< because we only dated for 4 months before he slipped a ring on my finger. He did it right even, asked my parents and everything. Poor man, he was trying not to panic when we sat down my parents. I love my mother in law she rocks ^__^. I guess I couldn't ask for more.
