I think it's the most heroic act that man is able to perform. No joke!

It used to be looked at like that as a way of a person to maintain their honor. But now we're a society of cowards, killing yourself these days isn't because it's the honorable thing to do or anything like that. People these days fear the unknown, so when one little minuscule thing goes wrong in life they seek their own self destruction. It's not heroic anymore, it's pathetic.

I'm not talking about the retention of honour, though.

It is selfish cause it hurts all the ones that love you. Anyone that tells you different is a fool and doesn't know the meaning of life or what love is. And folks this girl was my friend and she is crying out for answers for she is seriously contemplating suicide. If your comments have helped her decide to do so, may God have mercy on your souls, for in essence you will be an accessory to murder. You have no love or compassion in your hearts.

I lost a friend and nearly lost a sister to suicide. I'd have to say that it was extremely selfish and living through that hell was what convinced me not to do it myself (I used to be a cutter and suicidal). I know that someone will care if I'm gone.. even if it's someone I wouldn't expect!

Selfish and cowardly. As I saw on a MSN icon once, "Suicide is just a permeant solution to a temporary problem." People use it as a means to escape from consequences that they don't want to have to face, but loads of other people have to face just as much crap in life and it (mostly) turns out okay for them in the end. Plus, the people they leave behind are going to suffer for their friend's actions.

i have mixed feelings.
its selfish, because when u leave, many people have to stay alive suffering just so ur suffering could stop. and then they're left with questions like "why? was it me? or was it something i said?"
BUT.
a person is in control of their own life. if they have accepted death and feel that it would be better for themself, and they can leave feeling okay, then thats the choice they make.
maybe its just the others around being selfish keeping them alive, sufering on this earth, just so that they wont deal with a death of someone! o_0

I don't think my friend will be back to Gaia. My mom and I are praying for her. I pray to God she is okay and doesn't do it. But I think she was looking for a way out of life without consequences, to get your and God's approval for offing herself. The post by Jordan seems to have given her that excuse. Way to go Jordan. mad .

In my opinion, it's not selfish. Doesn't it seem more selfish to want someone to stay alive for your sake, so you can be happy?

In a way it is selfish in the sense you leave everyone to mourn for you, but what is also selfish is that the people who would miss you would rather keep you here for themselves while you suffer. Think about it.

I don't think it's too selfish. I mean, it's your life. Why should someone force you to stay alive if you're in so much mental or physical distress you'd like to kill yourself?

Yeah I know someone would feel bad if I killed myself. I have friends and parents.
