I think we do lie to ourselves.
Belief is a prime example of this.
People delude themselves so much that all logic flies out of the window, just to justify existing and to stop themselves worrying about death.

The opening post is too short and general to suit ED, but the people in GD are mostly too immature to take any notice of this. "DESU DESU DESU"
LD is sort of an in between really.
Lying is a Lifestyle, not a paticularly good one though.
