This is going to be long, and personal - so if you get offended easily, take things personally, or are easily riled you might not want to read this. These are just recollections from when I was really deep in the fandom.
Do you have an opinion (whether positive or negative) about the MLP:FIM fandom?
I have a negative one now. I am a former vice pres of a brony group and was bullied out. I was the only girl left (others left due to harassment), one of the members had done something to me, and when I took legal action the rest of the group started saying that I was a feminazi and that I was teasing him (eugh gross.) After that incident another man from said group attempted to sexually assault me, and since those two incidents it was hell. I didn't keep quiet about them, that pissed them off, and soon they found an argument in anything that I said. I shoveled money, time, energy, and care into that group like it was my home - and it was, it was just full of problem children. I think it's better now, new members, but I just can't watch the show or draw anything related to it without getting a sour taste in my mouth.
Do you think there are any legitimate reasons to dislike said fandom?
There is with every fandom. The one that I see from lots of conversations is: When people confront bronies and ask why they like a little girls' show (that's what it is, no matter what you'd like to think) they respond by saying, "Well there's obscure references to things adults like, adult humor, and applejack even drinks beer in some episodes!!" I find that whole automatic response strange. There's a few obscure references VERY SPREAD OUT, and in titles, and I think alcohol was legit brought up once with the, "apple tini" line. I just don't like how most can't just say, "Because it is a TV show with characters I like, it doesn't need to be adult-oriented. There are jokes for parents strewn in, but I don't watch it just for them." You're allowed to like any show regardless of the target-age.
Do you think that brony haters are misinformed/misguided/ect?
Nah. I don't like the word hater, and you can't really be misinformed about a kid's show. It's just that - a kid's show. People ask why adults like the show in confusion and earnest because our generation grew up very fast, with the thought of, "childish = bad." It doesn't shock me that there are people that wouldn't date a brony, or have an image of, "what all bronies are," making them likely to never socialize with them - and that's fine, you can't win everyone.
Now for the generalizations! Just assume, "some/most," is in front of the word Brony/Bronies.
People don't like the porn, I drew NSFW commissions, so I know, believe me - if it was harder to find I think people wouldn't care - the SnowDrop and Filly porn is too much though. They're essentially toddlers/children... so, I don't blame them. It's also really pushing the line from fictophilia and zoophilia. Bronies reference everything back to ponies - that really bugs people. If you're not a brony they will try to make you watch the cartoon. Bronies gear questions (like these) to be self-favoring (like these.) Bronies are more likely to be aggressive assholes despite "love and tolerance," which lasted a whole of maybe 3 months before everyone who was and was not couldn't accept each other's preference for the show (y/n.) and finally - Bronies also take many things personally - I have zero clue why. Still trying to figure that one out. This is all generalized, so before someone takes it personally please realize that - it's just an overlook from every brony community I've seen. Some do really great things, but that's to do with their personality in general. I really wish people didn't make liking a TV show a pivoting factor in their identity.
(Also the creator of FlufflePuff was one of our members and he was a huge dickbag, don't let his work fool you. We all hated him.)
