Have you ever disappointed your parents and/or family? Have you every unintentionally disappointed them, thinking they'd be happy about something you did and they were disappointed instead? How did it make you feel?

I unintentionally disappoint them at every turn. sweatdrop It eats away at my mind like a frickin' worm. gonk It bothers me so damn much. I mean, I try to make them happy, but most of what I get is a heavy sigh, a head shake, and an "I'm disappointed" or some disappointed-sounding lecture on why I fail. gonk

I was a constant disappointment to my mother. My teachers didn't help any. "She could be making straight A's if she just did her homework. She has the highest test scores in the class." I was lazy. And then when I got accepted to one of the top 10 engineering universities in the country and failed me "pre calc," which was most definitely not pre calc, class she freaked. Father was on my side, though. Most freshman take Math 3. I was taking a math class that was 2 classes higher. Father understood how hard it was. Even with 2 tutors I failed. sad We went through that entire book minus 3 chapters in 6 weeks... the pace was just way too fast.

I didnt intentionally disappoint them. But it made me feel really bad. I'd rather have them mad than disappointed.

There were times where I spent more effort in classes I was doing bad in (i.e. math) and my grades were slipping in the classes I did good at (simply based off of homework, because I did great on the tests and quizzes) and my parents were disappointed with that. But that's pretty much been it. I don't really disappoint them much because they usually don't care unless I start doing bad at something.

My parents keep yelling and lecturing at me about becoming independent. Every day its, "You need to move out and get independent." Now I am doing just that (moving out on Tuesday, to be with the one I love in a our own stable house, no less), and they are so disappointed. My mom won't even talk to me and is avoiding me. My dad will talk to me if I talk to him, but it is very very awkward. My sister is choosing to ignore that I am moving out at all and is treating the situation like I'm not going. I don't understand why they aren't happy that I am finally moving out and starting adult life.

I rarely disappoint my parents.

But when I do... omg. I feel like s**t.

I think the worst was when I called them a few months into my freshman year of college and told them I just could not stay at that school. I hated it. I stayed for the remainder of the semester and then moved back home. Leaving my nontransferable scholarships behind, having to pay a $300 fee for housing and having no idea where I'd be going from there. They said they were okay with it and supported me but I could still see the disappointment.

yes. I'm young, they should understand that i made mistakes like they do when they are young. My parents disappoint me too sometimes so were even biggrin

My mom would be disappointed if I got a C. Probably if I didn't make the Dean's List, too. I'd be upset with myself, too. I've been going on a streak. Made it four times so far.

I've come to realize that no matter what I do, my mother is going to be disappointed in me. There's always something I could have done differently; and it doesn't matter that I've always made excellent grades and never got into trouble, EVER, she'll always find some flaw to complain about.

Once I learned to ignore it, my life got a lot easier. You just have to realize that it's your life, not your parents'. That doesn't mean you have to disappoint them on purpose, or go out and do something stupid, though.

Sadly enough my parents have high standards for me to keep up with. Their disappointment typically is about something i honestly don't think they should be upset about.

And to my mom when she realized that I wasn't another Marion.

My mommy still loves me though. ^^ I do not care if they are disappointed with me for the most part.

I guess I disappoint them alot. I'n the only girl from my dad's side in two generations, and i'm the youngest. I'm supposed to be nice, and neat, and smart, and sporty. Yet i'm the opposite... I guess I'm kinda disappointing to them...

my dad would let me know when things i did didn't make him happy, but all and all he was a very supportive dad (RIP).

my mother isn't afraid to let me know what a piece of s**t i am anytime, anywhere. i've learned to ignore her and laugh when she get's into her drama queen mode.
