Welcome to Gaia! ::

not all christians are anti-homosexuality.
not all christians are anti-abortion.
not all christians try to convert everyone they meet.
not all christians are republicans.
not all christians hate, especially since it's a religion based on love.

and i know i'm only defending one group of people, and there are stereotypes for so many different religions and groups.

so what stereotpyes get stuck in your craw?
which do you hear the most and think are wrong?
which ones do you hear about you, and your lifestyle?
which stereotypes get stuck in your craw and piss you off?

the point of this is, that no matter what the stereotype, it is wrong, because everyone is individual and different.

all stereotyping is, is the cognitive processing in the brain making shortcuts between what is known, therefore making generalizations, in order to make the quickest possible assessment of the people or things around the person.

it's natural, but is NEVER correct.

lets take a stand against generalizations.
The ones I hate:

Being an Athiest does not mean you worship Satan.
Being an Athiest does not mean you hate God.
Being an Athiest does not mean you have no morals.
mormons hate gays
mormons are polygamists
mormons are cult
I hate that stereotype, I really do.
Because I'm a liberal democrat, pro-choice, pro-gay marriage/rights, and I'm pretty quiet about my beliefs.

Hey moon, please forgetto fall down.... Hey moon dont'cha go down....

Piss me off:

All atheists are rude and have no manners or common sense.
All atheists try to force their beliefs (Or lack there of) onto the religious.
All teenage atheists are just following a trend.

Seriously. Ugh. Especially the last one.

I don't believe in anything because I don't understand it, and it just isn't right for me. Not because it's "Cooler" not to. Religion is actually really interesting.
The ones I hate:

All homosexuals are *****
Abortion doctors are murderers (more of an outright lie rather than a stereotype)
"True" Christians love everybody and never do bad things.
@Kikkaku- *Shrug, there are those type of people in the world. We, Christians and other Religions have to put up with that daily.

Hahah, yeah, I've certainly MET crazy ones, but it doesn't mean all are. <nod>
Stereotypes exist because within certain groups of people there are typical traits that seem to be in each person. Not all people fit within the stereotype, but many do.

For example:
Potheads.
A stereotypical stoner will be laid back, not care very much about school, typically happy, ignorant, blissful, and many people might even go so far as to say stupid.

I am very laid back, and school doesn't bug me much, but I don't fit the stereotype completely. Stereotypes exist because the people in the group in question perpetuate it.

The "All _____ are..." statements are generalizations, not stereotypes.
I hate how when people think of latinos all they think of are mexicans or puerto ricans.
Its moslty b/c of what I normally hear, but I could be wrong.

ME TOO. i kind of feel like i have to not speak about my beleifs because someone always wants to punch me for them, even though i'm a liberal democrat catholic.
i mean, one of my best friends is an atheist lesbian, and the other is a conservative fundumentalist christian.
i agree and disagree with both of them equally about stuff, but i get along with them great and as long as we work to understand eachother, we truly appreciate eachother's viewpoints.
all moms under the age of 25 are teen slut moms
all moms under the age of 25 are unwed moms
all moms under the age of 25 are welfare moms
all women who are married and young with a child are a baby trap

those ones make me mad.
