Eh.....that's pretty much how it works. I've been told I'm pretty, but I don't think I buy into that. So I'm going by personal experience, most of the girls I've met, whom guys always think are "hot" tend to be really lack-luster personality wise. Thus you have to pick, do you want pretty, or do you want nice?
