You need fiber. Having an unhealthy diet will only worsen you're problem. I would guess that the reason fruits hurt your stomach is because you aren't used to them. Drink lots of water (half your weight or around 64 oz) and make sure your eating healthy with exercise. Eating cheese and fries will only stop you up, not harden your stool.

Your diet is crap, and probably full of processed foods. That's why it's so formless and smells so horrible. Increase your water intake, eat lots more fruits and veggies, eat plenty of fiber so it doesnt' come out so watery.

If you make those changes and change your diet siginificantly and still have this problem, then you can have a doc check out a possibility of IBS or something. Not sure it'd be a gluten issue, you'd get very painful reactions to eating it rather quickly. It just more sounds like your diet is horrible.
Honestly, this sounds like less of a diet problem and more of something that isn't being diagnosed. Make sure when you go to the doctor you are explaining everything. Ask if you can be referred to a specialist because I really think you need a gastroenterologist.

Okay, you NEED to fix your diet. That is the main problem. You need to drink at least 8 glasses (255ml) of water a day. That is what helps form the stools and gives them nutrients. Also, it is not just "bread" products, it is FIBER. You need to eat something that contains high fiber. Fiber is the one food that the body cannot digest, which helps shape the stool and move the excriment through the bowels.

Another thing is that you may have an allergy to dairy products. Many people do not know this, but dairy is actually one of the most acidic contents once in the stomach. That could also be contributing to things.

Overall, I believe that your diet is to blame. You need to start balancing and eating non-processed foods more often than processed foods. If your change your diet and there are still the same problems, you may want to look into Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

I hope that this information helps.
Delightful_FOOL

I LOVE dried apricots! Though every time I pick them out the mother is like "Ugh those have sulfer in them!"
So dark green veggies like spinach?

Gossamer Heart

Yeah I'm a normal weight and my kidneys are great!
Next time I go to my doctor I'll ask about blood tests. They never did any the last few times they tested. I think it's time to get out a notebook and do a food diary.

Mightelove

Thats great. How can I fix it? Food suggestions?

zephixen

I'll get a notebook. I managed a solid today and I was astonished....I'm trying to remember what I've been eating that could have firmed it up for that one moment.

wingedthing1026

Really? Rice? I loveee rice! I think overall my body would be happier with me if I made some rice instead of ramen or something

Pikkewyn

I'll try cutting wheat first since I eat mostly bread and cheese products. Though I think I'm good with lactose. Gluten has always come up as a possible factor.

Agent Ego

Oh my god I WANT to learn how to cook so bad @.@ I actually took a cooking class in highschool one year and I kicked a** at it. I just don't really know where to begin... searching up recipes?

latipinnia

Trust me, I would much rather cook my own meals then sit down to frozen baked french fries and hot dogs. Perhaps I'm needing fiber from veggies since fiber from grains doesn't seem to be working. Does exercise help with bowl movements? o_O I really do hate exercise. Though I'd love to go biking if I had myself a bike.

Inscriven

Yeah I think it's the diet... the stuff i'd eat might be suitable as occasional snacks for an elementary schooler, not a grown woman.

potatosalad

I'll definitely try eliminating foods and recording what I eat in a diary and see if that changes anything in the mean time before I can afford to see a doctor. But if nothing works at least I'll have something to show the doctor so they can see what I've been doing.

quayla666

Change diet. Check. Water. Check.
Oh goodness I thought bread WAS fiber X.X proves how much I know.
I might have a sensitivity to too much dairy. I guess we'll see with the food diary
Thanks smile I'll research IBS too

---------------------------
So here are some foods I might eat in a day, just to give yall an example of what I'm putting in my body.

Normal day:
Breakfast= nothing. I'm sleeping
Lunch= Ham and cheese hot pocket followed by some goldfish crackers and a cookie or two
Snack= more crackers, another cookie
Dinner= handfull of french fries and mozzarella sticks

Pigging out day:
Breakfast= sleeping
snack= hot cheetos
Lunch= two grilled cheeses
snack= gold fish crackers, zebra cakes, candy bar
dinner= 4 frozen burritos followed by something sweet

Skinny day:
Breakfast= sleeping
Lunch= Ham and cheese hot pocket
Snack= handful of crackers
Dinner= cup noodle

Actually making food day:
Breakfast= sleeping
lunch= fried bacon and peppered eggs on top of a buttered chunk of french bread with apple slices
Dinner= oven baked frozen chicken strip in a tortilla wrap with mushrooms, celery, lettuce, cheese and a drizzle of bleu cheese.

Yeah... pretty much. And usually my days consists of roughly 3 skinny days, 2 normal days, 1 pigging out day and one actually making food day
And obviously I change it up but thats the gist of it. sweatdrop It's also hard when I live at home. Those parents eat twice a day and something easy, so all I really have are processed foods which is why it's difficult to change.

Also, how long does it take for a full days worth of food to pass through defecation?
Girl.. your diet is burning_eyes

Do you realize you are probably not even getting enough calories in a day a female should be getting? Get a food journal, record everything. Start tomorrow and make small changes as you go on. Then drop or add food groups and see what happens. Write everything down, how much you ate, when you ate, how you felt after and of course the stool frequency and consistency. Vitamins may also help you.

Chick, your diet is absolutely horrendous. No wonder you're having stool problems. You're not eating anything that's legit solid foods. You need to eat better. Start by eating stuff with fiber. Like green foods. Collard Greens, Broccoli, Asparagus....Or foods like kidney beans, black beans and all sorts of other beans. You'll get protein, iron, fiber, and all of that good stuff. Drink apple juice too or orange juice....Vitamins. I also suggest that you get "Benefiber" you mix a spoonful in with your drink and that'll give you fiber as well. Eggs, bread, apples, Celery, lettuce, Mushrooms and I think that's it.....Those are the best things that you've eaten. Also, you might want to take multivitamins...That can help too.

To pass food through defecation....Hmmmmmm....The first meal you ate won't pass until a week later. What you pass now is a meal from the past. Though, i have heard that you should poop once or twice a day. If you don't then you're irregular. Usually Activia can correct this. It did for me. Activia also comes with fiber...if you buy the packs that come with the extra fiber.
I'm not going to say anything about your diet post, simply because enough people already have. I'm sure you get the gist of it by now.

As far as regularity of pooping goes...It does vary from person to person. My house mate and I eat basically the exact same meals every day (we both have toast and fruit for breakfast, take turns making each other's lunches and dinner) yet we poop differently. I know this because we only share one bathroom in our apartment, so it is pretty obvious...I'm not some creepy poop monitor, I swear! dramallama dramallama

What you need to look for in a healthy pooping schedule is if you're in any discomfort between, if they take too long, and the consistency of said poop. Your main red flags are the consistency, and the amount of gas you pass - but hopefully fixing up your diet should rectify those. If they don't, definitely go back to the doctor (maybe even a different one) and tell them that you've tried all of those things, but things are still not right.
This is not something with a simple answer. This is the story of my life right here and I'm not a mule but plainly I don't give a ******** because I'm tired of trying to hide s**t that is embarrassing and destroying my life and nobody knows me in real life on here anyways =D

Where do I begin. I guess I could just make a list of things. Since I'm Canadian and my health insurance is covered etc. I've gone under multiple tests for this problem.

I've had multiple blood tests to see if I'm Celiac (can't eat gluten, wheat & barley)
The blood results appeared "in-conclusive" which is why they sent me for a stomach biopsy, which I will mention later.

Removed dairy from my diet to see if I am lactose-intolerant.
I think dairy upsets my stomach a bit, but this never seemed to do the trick of getting rid of my stomach issues.

Recently had a stomach biopsy (camera shoved down your throat to see what is going on, and a piece of tissue taken from your stomach to test on it)
Results come back from 4-6 weeks and I'm still waiting for the results.

AND they possibly want to do a colonoscopy (camera up the back door Dx ) on me testing for Crohns disease (there's too much to even explain, go google it).

LASTLY multiple dietary tests to learn if I have IBS (Irritable Bowl Syndrome).

Okay, if you're still reading I'll continue haha, also feel free to message me because I have years of experience with this s**t (no pun intended)

IN YOUR CASE all those processed and microwavable foods could be the answer right there. Eating breads is NOT going to help if you are Celiac; it'll only do worse (same with dairy if you're lactose intolerant)

^That being said, improve your diet. Hardcore. Eat less processed things, I know it takes longer, but it'll be worth it if you feel better.

After trying to eat better, if that doesn't work - start the process of elimination. Go without dairy for a week, see how you feel. If that doesn't work, try the same with gluten, wheat and barley.

I also found out that I'm allergic to Garlic and Onions, if I eat either of these things in anything it causes my intestine to get really pissed off at me.

OKAY DONE. Longest post ever.
eating a lot of fruit actually gives you that soupy consistency. Too much fibre equals runny stool. You could be lactose intolerant, therefore I suggest cutting out the dairy for a bit and see if that helps.

Obviously you already know you need to improve your diet. That'll make loads of differences if you eat healthy.

And buying healthy food is actually cheaper in the long run than buying crappy unhealthy food. And if you're too lazy for cooking for 30 minutes, there are delicious, 5-10 minute meals you can make that are still really healthy for you. (I'm a university student on her own, I had to learn all this really quickly by myself, and i HATE cooking lol)

You could also have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It's an intestinal condition.

Shameless Prophet

It sounds like a gluten intolerance. I would try to get lots of fiber from other sources like vegetables and fruits (apples are probably the best source of bowel-regulating fiber). You know what they say about an apple a day. smile
I feel for you, hon. I hope things get better for you.

I LOVE Ree. So much that I bought her new cookbook that came out. It's full of really good recipes, has pictures of each step, and everything tastes awesome. I don't care how girly it is.

Pretty much, the reason I am such an excellent cook now is because I cook dinner several days a week, and whenever I see a recipe I like, I cook it and eat it. I regularly look through cookbooks and websites for inspiration - guess why I have these links for you, lol. And they are NOT all of my links. I have a wall of links equivalent to my History/Social Science wall of links (as in, 100+ sites).

It all gets easier with experience - while I don't claim to be a master chef, I am a professional cook - I sell a huge variety of organic salsa autentica and pies from scratch, among other things, and can rake in hundreds in profits on a slow day. That is, whenever I bother cooking - it is a joy and a hobby for me, not a job.

I can deviate from a recipe I have never cooked before and have it come out good - hell, I usually take the five recipes that sound the best, check what they have in common, then throw my own twist on it based on flavor pairings and the audience.

Eggs. Eggs are a good place to start. You learn a bunch of basic skills if you can make eggs.
Ixithel

I know x.x I feel so dead a lot of the times because I just don't have enough energy.

Giovanna_Deiderich

Thank you! This is what I needed. I'll be looking out for fiber. In fact, I'll do that first. Add fiber filled foods to my diet and see if that starts helping. I had a clam chowder bread bowl (in sourdough) and I think that gave me my solid for this month xD

Gossamer Heart

Color is also another flag. If it's not a normal color or black from all the pepto bismol I consume then it's a bright orange color. The soupy consistency also looks like mucous in the toilet sweatdrop

Koko the Unicorn

onions kill me too. I'm going to PM you and talk to you more on this smile

0x-Yuna-x0

We usually don't have fruit but when we do I tend to go to town x.x like grapes and all that. Why does fruit tend to give me a tummy ache?

Eloquent Zombie

We'll see with the food journal xD I love apples so thats always good.

How does exercise help with pooping?

Like Totally Not A Mule

OMG I love you for this. One of my dreams is being a good housewife and if a housewife can't make anything more then a hot pocket then uhh... she's screwed.

I will look at these smile

oh my god looking at your diet made me want to vomit, and this is coming from a poor uni student who has her own diet problems due to lack of money

first thing is, stop being so lazy. if you want to cook, learn to cook. if you want to remedy your diet, research it. you are putting way to much crap into your body. eat green vegetables. eat foods high in fibre - get a HEALTHY high fibre breakfast cereal and start eating brown rice specifically, because its better/healthier/has more fibre than white rice. cooking is easy. cut out almost all the fast food and preprepared meals you eat, especially the gross greasy ones - limit them as a reward, or when you absolutely have no time to prepare something better. DO NOT have "skinny days" - to maintain a solid diet, you have to have rounded healthy meals regularly; skipping meals will, in fact, cause the body to put ON weight. dont drink soft drinks; drink high fibre juice and lots of water instead. exercise will help the body move the food around and, in general, improve your health - if you want to STAY BETTER you will have to make a solid effort to NOT return to eating pure lard all day every day, and daily exercise routines will help this, motivating the body to return to how it SHOULD be running.

want a quick and easy dinner? get a pan or a wok, cut up a s**t ton of vegetables like spinich, broccoli, carrot, baby corn, capsicum, beans, whatever you feel like. add high quality soy sauce while cooking it on high temp in the pan. prepare brown rice while its cooking. when the veges are starting to soften, add organic tofu to the mix; pour on oyster sauce and let it cook until the veges are completely done and the tofu has absorbed the sauces. easy as pie - i can cook this in under 15 minutes for three people, thought granted i use frozen veges thanks to my low budget.

all in all it sounds like your parents did an almost hilariously s**t job at educating you on health and bringing you up on a diet that wont kill you. if you want to improve your health you have to make a MASSIVE EFFORT and CONTINUE THAT EFFORT. deciding that youll have a meal of rice once every week, or thinking that a couple of cookies will help, is bullshit and lazy; this isnt something you can easily fix by eating a couple of apricots each week.
