Be as informal as you want. This guy has red flags out the wazoo in terms of being abusive and emotionally manipulative. Breaking up with you if you decide not to move there? Hell no to that.

You can either text or email him if you want to be impersonal about it. Be brief and to the point (ie: "this isn't working about because I feel that this relationship has run it's course since you have no aspirations to leave your parents house" or "I no longer have romantic feelings towards you", etc..) and then cut all contact with the guy. Block his number, block him on skype, fb, etc.
