I didn't get into the two colleges I could apply to this year (monetary confinements) and until I can get accepted, hopefully next year, I'd really like to take some courses at a local community college to keep the educational part of my mind working and show the application people that I really do want to learn.

It's been a long and trying experience being rejected, and as much as I'd like to write ten pages about how upset I am, I really just think I should accept what has happened and move on with my life.

So how do I go about taking one or two classes at a community college without living on campus and not attending full-time? I'd really just like to take a history, a math, and maybe some sort of English course?

History because I want to be a history teacher, and then math and English since it seems like schools really care about those two for some reason.

Has anyone ever been through this? I know it's possible to only go to school two or three days a week at a community college, but I don't know exactly how to go about applying for something like that...

I got stuck at CC because my family is poor and I never took SAT's. CC is like 13th grade, I dropped and went to technical school, it was sooooo much better .Go to the website and call for info you'll get set up soon enough. GL
Im pretty sure community colleges (especially) have online courses, home schooling or correspondence, night classes and early morning classes.

I took courses from 8 am to 11 am and then I went to work from 12 pm to 8 pm. I still had time to study and sleep and I finished the courses I needed in 1 semester. Now Im just waiting to apply at the school im going to in autum.
The reason I went to community college was to upgrade my courses from highschool because I missed the application date for NAIT (the college im interested in) and my marks for the couple courses they looked into werent very good.
So I upgraded part-time and worked full time.

That's what I'm hoping to do, and I'll live at home and drive the 45 minutes to school each day I have classes. And then I'll be working full time and, minus whatever rent my parents charge me, I'll be able to save up and get more money for real college (no offense to CC people) and be able to apply properly this time and apply for scholarships.

Yup. NAIT is really hard to get into so I wanted my marks to be super good. They only allow 30 people into their classes and around 200 apply =( so ill probably end up applying 2 or 3 times before im even considered.

But My CC was downtown and I had to pick up my best friend everyday so I had to leave at like 7 am to get there by 8 am, it was so tiring. She never gave me gas money either mad

But it worked out and now i just work and im waiting with my fingers crossed!
When I was in community college, I had an adviser who helped me set up a schedule every semester with classes that I would need to get my associates degree. What you could do is do what I am doing and get the basic classes I need to get my associates and then go to a University. If you attend college 5 days a week, I think you can get it done in less then 2 years. I went 2 days a week and it only took me 2 1/2 years. It is very easy to move an associates degree over to a University and start there as a junior, but if you take separate classes the University you attend may not accept them. I find this a lot easier because it is much cheaper and basically the same thing as going to a University. Same types of classes and what not.
Well, in college you can choose your schedule. So just look up to CC that's closest to your home and apply to a MW or TuTH class. Most CC classes only meet 2 times a week. If not, you could always apply for online classes.
Just call the school and talk to an advisor, I'm sure they would be able to help you. A lot of community colleges are actually set up to help the part-time college student, even offering night and weekend classes for those that have to work. You're not an unusual case at all. 3nodding
If you take the liberal arts class over at SMCC, you can get into USM without an essay or SAT's. I 0 recommend doing that! blaugh

You're going to do great, Muffin <3
