Welcome to Gaia! ::

We have leap year because one revolution around the sun does not come out as a whole number of days. It's about 365 days and 6 hours, or 365.25 days. To assure that we are precise about our days/years, we add an extra day every four years. However, this is still not exact enough, and we don't have leap year every hundred years, except for every fourth hundred year. This year has an extra second added to it to adjust for this as well.
