Japan is not going to be destroyed. They've had a tsunami plus a really big earthquake before in the past (as in, more than 1000 years ago. The last time they had a tsunami was in the 1700s). They're still intact today.

Well and not to mention that the damage to the actual land mass was fairly minimal. The majority of the damage done was to man made structures.
