Now I'm level 10, I always try and use crafting services for anything I won't earn XP for. I know of a few other Alchemists who do the same.

I think that crafting components for wings (if you plan to attempt them) is the best way to go about it currently. When I was levelling up, quests were super rare (and expensive like 50 mil+ in a pre-Flynn economy), so being able to do backwings wasn't even on my radar.

If you were crazy and wealthy enough to be able to afford to attempt a few quests at once, you actually wouldn't need anything else to level up. I think that either 3 or 4 pairs of wings (simultaneously) would have enough crafted components. But man, that would be a lot of gold. gonk
