“Very interesting and all, but…no demons in the game, hm? Somehow I doubt Death Gods were accounted for either.” Darien frowned a bit, not sure what to make of the woman’s account. “Can you show me this game? Or…will that not be possible?” He looked around the room, realizing they had no modern technology or even electricity in this world. It would be some time, if ever before he could understand what Paige was talking about. He sighed, trailing off until the woman mentioned the fire of earlier.
“Oh, fire?” The demon repeated, “You mean…like this?” he furrowed a brow, hand held out as he manipulated the blue-violet flames from earlier. “I suppose so. It is not much, simply an ability my family line shares, blood of the Ifrit—ah never mind. Need to know basis only, hm?” He shook his head, likely revealing far too much. He didn’t want to…overwhelm the poor woman.
“Forget I said anything about that, hm?” With a careful flick of his wrist all the lamps in the room were burning with the blue light—giving the room an almost ethereal glow.
“Demons, that’s right. Surprisingly those Heartless are a mystery even to me. But, I assume we are a mystery to you, Miss Evans. So, I will tell you all you need to know and nothing more unless you so ask. Firstly, being demons we are immortal. I am much older than I look, of course.” He managed an amused and knowing smile, “Of course, the majority of demons are only out for themselves. We are a selfish race, not unlike humans but I know you will contest to that. We only strive to do what will be to our benefit, we are out for ourselves. However…we do sometimes form contracts. Those are binding and despite being terrible creatures we are far more loyal than another race, I can assure you. It is this point that relates to your family, Miss Evans. For I have been serving the Phantomhive family for generations. They have been secretly serving the Royal Family as…well, as guard dogs basically. They once ruled what was once London’s underground. Once, as I assume it is…quite destroyed now.” He looked distraught for a moment, as if considering what to do next.
“Therefore, none of that really matters now. I still believe you should know. As for my connection to this game or dream or whatever it may be…I do not know. I did not account for this to happen when I escorted you from your school and because of this mess I am rather at a loss. However…” He trailed off, eyes flicking to the woman’s features. She was remarkably stable, she was not even remotely afraid or distraught at having lost her home, her life… “You are a mystery to me. Are you holding up so well after all that has happened?”
