User ImageAvery sighed, hands shoved in her pockets as she strolled down the street. She was really tired of listening to her brother's drama with his girlfriend, yet again. The loser had gotten himself booted from the army thanks to his refusal to listen to authority, so why she thought he'd ever listen to her was a mystery. Still, she tried, and failed miserably. And her idiot father was on his.....ninth girlfriend, two years after her mother had passed. What a joke that was. People kept telling her to cut them from her life completely, but it was sort of difficult to do.

And here she was, walking home alone late at night because she hadn't felt like paying stupid fees for a cab. Having drunk a bit - enough to get a buzz - she really should have, but whatever. As long as she stayed away from the vampire's territory, she didn't have too much to worry about. Hah, the vampire boundaries. They'd 'come out' a few decades ago and over that relatively short time had amassed massive amounts of properties in large cities, cutting off entire sections and creating cities within cities for themselves and their familiars. She'd never met a human who served the vampires - a human who drank their blood and retained all of humanity's appearances, while receiving immortality and being much harder to kill.

She'd never seen a vampire, either.

"Hey there, sweet thing," a man chuckled, grabbing her arm while his friend took her other. Shaken from her thoughts, the young woman growled and kicked them, but they hauled her off the pavement and began to carry her down the blocks to the boundary. "Let's see how peaceful it stays when those monsters murder a sweet little girl like you," he remarked in obvious amusement.

Oh, great. It figured. People were always trying to set off conflict between humans and vampires. Tossing her in and letting someone find the body would be easy. If they even found a body, the idiots.

"Let me go!" she snarled, wishing she had some inexplicable fighting ability. Cliche, but it'd be useful. But she was just another office drone whose only knowledge of fighting came from old boxing classes and kung-fu movies, neither of which helped with her arms pinned behind her back. They dragged her faster than she'd thought and before she knew it, Avery was tossed over the boundary gates and onto territory forbidden to humans.

s**t.

Nicolas was out walking along the dark streets by the barrier between the human and vampire city. He stopped and watched the living city, even at night they lived the humans weren't so different from his race. He let out a sigh and pulled out a cigarette from his back pocket and lit it taking a deep drag of it as he watched the moving city with it's shining likes glittering as far as his eyes could see. He'd never thought that this would ever be a possibility, electricity and what the humans called car's. At one point in his long like the changes had amazed and wowed him to look upon but now it was just like everything else in his life. Old.

He was just finishing his cigarette and about to turn away and head back to his house until he heard some screaming from, what sounded like a female yelling at her captor. The idea made him chuckle of her fierceness made him chuckle but the sound of her scream made him curious and he dragged his eyes around looking for where the woman's scream came from to watch as the events unfolded.

Spotting the two men and their captive his eyes narrowed already guessing what was about to happen between the men and the woman as the came closer towards the barrier. He had long ago lost love for the human race, he didn't even have a familiar at the moment. They were all so bent do deeming his race as monsters and vermin that he no longer cared for their dealings or trying to convince them of other wise. Sure there were of his kind the so called monsters but wasn't that true for all races, did they not have their own scourge and filth that seemed to plague the rest of their race. And at one point he would have fought the good fight along with the younger ones of his kind but he now no longer cared, the humans would never change nor would his own kind.

"You best be wise to pick the girl up and escort her home now before you regrett letting your selves toward the gates of this territory" He warned staying in the shadows watching to see what they would do.

User ImageThe two men froze, one kicking Avery in the ribs in an attempt to keep her from getting back to her feet. They hadn't expected a vampire to already be out here and find them. Looking up, the taller man sneered at the vampire, apparently an idiot. "And what're you gonna do about it if we just leave her here?" he demanded smugly, as if he thought they were perfectly safe despite breaking the rules - and the laws - by being inside the vampires' domain.

"I'm not letting you assholes 'escort' me anywhere," Avery snapped, scooting backwards and pushing herself to her feet, glad she was wearing jeans instead of a skirt this time around. Wincing at the pain in her side, she found herself between the vampire and the two men. Oh, that was just wonderful.

Snorting, the second man reached out and shoved her towards the vampire. Hopping ungracefully on a foot, she managed to avoid falling back into him and fell into the chainlink fence instead. "Aren't you gonna kill the dumb b***h?" the other man demanded, gesturing to her even as they backed up towards the gate, towards apparently safety beyond the fence and borders designed not to keep the vampires in, but the humans out. They couldn't see him clearly in the shadows and only had the vaguest impression of something really, really scary watching them.

Avery wasn't too keen on getting close to the idiots again, but definitely wanted out of the territory as well. It wasn't her fault she was inside, but she wasn't too sure how much the vampire would care about things like that if he was pissed off. So she started to edge towards the gate as well, holding her side.

A slight feeling of delight went through Nicholas as he smelt the shock coming from the male humans, though it quickly vanished as one of them spoke. Why did they always have to ruin his moment of enjoyment be reminding him of their stupidity. "I honestly don't care one way or another, though that last thing me and my people need is more of your pathetic drama and bigoted hate towards us," He said sounding almost bored with the question, and slightly annoyed that they would ask such a question. What did they think he would do to her, kill her?

He looked at the kidnapped girl curiously his eyes moving up and down her body. She was brave for one so young and well understood that she didn't come to his territory by choice. So because she was tossed and beaten through the gate he would just let her leave after dispatching the two hooligans that brought her, if that was what she wanted. As the snorting and other movements made by the male's brought back his attention to them he for the time being pushed away the thoughts of the victim girl wanting only to escape the grips of her human captors and in no doubt the death that she thought awaited her by his had. In all truth he always preferred a willing victim were he to feed from them until death, it always tasted sweeter, the blood that is.

The demeaned question that rang out form the other male made Nicholas laugh, a laugh that sounded musical and light but held no real life it it or any true humor. "The only 'dumb b***h' i see is you two moron's thinking that us Vampire's will fall for your bait," He growled and quickly moved closer to them pushing them up against the chain link fence. "Do you really think that all Vampire's are going to take this girl and leave the two of you be so you can escape and continue your rant's of stupidity?" He hissed to then looking them up and down, he remembered a time where human were more respectful of his race, though that time has long since passed.

Nicolas wrapped his hand around on of the men's throat and grinned a humorless grin baring his fangs. "Though is you two are both fair game for coming into my city, and i am quite hungry i shall the blood that runs through your vein's" He warned the two, he'd deal with the repercussions later for now he just wanted to end this despite and be on with his walk. Keeping a hold of one male in one of his hands he grabbed the other with his free hands and quickly sank his teeth into the warm flesh of his firs victim of the night. He held the man he was drinking from close, cradling him against his own chest feeling the living heart beat of the man slow to an eventual stop. Once he felt the heart freeze in now the still warm corpse the vampire had just created he turned his attention on his next captive.

"Now since neither you or you're partner left when i gave you the chance i guess death it for the both of you, wont you're parents be so proud for fighting for a cause that decided our fate"
He growl anger showing in her words and he quickly sank his teeth into the second male before he could speak following the same procedure as he had with the first letting him drop and dragging them to the gate and tossed them both out.

He was reminded of the woman watching her struggle her way towards the gate, he let out a sigh and quickly looked around the smell of human was strong now with the blood that he'd spilt with the two moronic men in search of glory for reporting a set up. He walked towards her so that he could quickly get her to the waiting gate before other came called by the blood and curiosity. Nicolas moved in front of her and offered his hand to her, alright so maybe he still had a little love for the innocent human's that were put to death by vampire just to prove a point.

User ImageAvery didn't waste time watching the gruesome scene play out. She was unable to hear the struggle, or the vampire's words to them, though. The words sent shivers down to spine, however grateful she was that she was apparently going to be spared. Well, that was nice, no icky death by vampire in her near future. But she certainly wasn't going to test his goodwill by standing around and watching. Haha. No, thanks. Better to just get the hell out and hope he didn't get too pissed off.

It was true, what he said. The words were lost on the idiots, but Avery at least listened as she leaned against the fence and limped towards the gate. Humans had been raised since the first stories of vampires that they were evil, ate humans, had no soul, all that good stuff. And while there had a been a few bad publicity cases for the vampires since their coming out, for the most part they'd been better behaved than the humans. It was sort of unfair, making them pander to humans' stupidity, she always thought, but the vampires had always seemed happy enough in their own territories, at least. Sanctuaries or bases of power, depending on who you talked to. But this baiting was just ridiculous, it was the fourth time she'd heard of something like it happening.

Not that she'd expected to be stuck in the middle of this crap. No, she'd had a shitty and she'd gone drinking to try to relax. And then she'd walked home to save some money. Well, so much frugality. Screw that next time, if that's how she was going to get rewarded.

Avery paused and looked at the vampire in astonishment when he was suddenly in front of her, offering his hand to...help her? She'd figured - hoped - he'd just kick her the hell out. This was decent. "I'd say thanks, but I figure you didn't do it for me. But thanks anyway," the young woman told him, managing a weak grin. She was having a really hard time breathing and didn't like to think she'd gotten her a** beat so easily. But her fingers had to grip the links just to keep herself upright as her vision went a bit blurry for a moment. Her chest felt really tight - and there was a lot of pain - and couldn't catch her breath. It was like a freaking asthma attack, only a million times worse.

She closed her eyes briefly in pain before focusing on the vampire's hand and gingerly reaching out with the hand that had been pressed to her side. No way was she letting go of the fence, she'd fall over right into the pavement. Having no medical experience whatsoever, Avery didn't realize the broken rib had punctured her lung and she was going to suffocate soon. "Sorry about them. I'm sort of glad you killed them before they could do it again," Avery admitted, gasping in both pain and trying to get air in her punctured lung.

"Shut up, you stupid girl," Nicolas said, know he sounded more harsh than he needed to be, but he could her the trouble she was having trouble breathing and he did notice that she was having a hard time. It didn't take long for him to smell the blood in her body he couldn't pin point exactly in her body she was bleeding but he did know that it wasn't a good thing for the humans. Once she had given him her hand he pulled her quickly but while still being as gentle with her as he could so as to not cause any more damage to her already broken body.

There was no time to find another human to help her, and he could already feel the curious vampires approaching the the sent of fresh blood. He had not choice. He looked around estimating the time he had left to help her. He let out an unneeded breath, it wasn't long before other vampire arrived. He needed to act now or the innocent girl would loose her life painfully.

Keeping his eyes one her and watching her closely he lick his lips cleaning them off of what ever blood for lingered there form her attackers. Once he was sure his lips and tongue were clean he cut opened both his tongue and bottom lip and pressed his lips against hers, it was the only way he could think to deliver the blood to her in time before the other arrived and before she became lifeless in his arms. Also he figured it was the easiest way to get the blood into her before she even realized what he was doing and tried to stop him.

Feeling her warm body against is own borrowed warmth from the living blood he'd taken and her soft lips under his made him linger closer to her long than he needed to be. He didn't pull away from her until he heard a couple of other steps coming closer towards that.

"Vhat is it that ve have here?"
A Romanian voice called out, he was the first of three curious vampire to arrive and he was eying Nicolas and the girl that was still in his arms. Quickly the Romanian thought the girl as food, she was probably drunk and stumbled into their city, that would have been her first mistake.

User ImageWincing in pain as he pulled her along, Avery kept trying to catch her breath and was beginning to panic a little that she couldn't. She didn't have time to panic, though, because every step she took sent more agonizing pain and banished all thoughts from her head to begin with. They weren't even at the gate when he stopped, though they were near it, at least. She hadn't realized how far the two idiots - dead idiots - had even dragged her. Stumbling into him when he stopped, having been forced to let go of the fence, she whimpered in pain.

She was going to swear at herself, or even say 'ow', but didn't feel like pissing him off. Besides, she was more focused on breathing more than being angry at this point. Avery didn't notice him looking at her, or even him cutting open his lip tongue with his fang. She was watching the ground and trying to suck air into her useless lung, failing miserably. So she was caught completely off-guard when he suddenly...kissed...her? No, not a - what the hell. The young woman almost gagged when she tasted the blood in her mouth, but instinctively swallowed before she could stop herself. It didn't....it didn't taste bad. It was just like her blood, at least that's what her senses told before she realized the pain was fading.

The healing powers of the vampire seeped into her blood and began repairing her lung and rib almost instantly. Within moments, before his lips finally left hers, both were as good as new. Better, actually, strengthened and any imperfections fixed. Avery felt herself go a bit limp against when she realized what he'd done. He'd saved her. By making her a familiar. She was bound to him now, for...eternity. Not sure whether to be angry about that, or grateful he'd saved her, and trying to be both, her head spun a bit. Before she could think of anything to say, she heard the foreign voice and swallowed. Something told her to keep close to the vampire who was holding her, so she closed her eyes and tried to look....well, invisible would've been nice.

"Oh, Nicky has a petite collation!" a French vampire that looked more a preteen than a vicious killer hundreds of years old remarked in surprise. "You are being greedy, Nicky, let us have a taste," she suggested, her red lips parting in a hungry smile.

"s**t."
User Image

Nicolas didn't say anything to the girl, and he didn't expect her to be please with his choice of making her his by giving her his blood, but at least she could live as much as living with a vampire was a life. He the only thing that would give him away of feeling a little guilty for stealing what life she had from the human world from her, to her friends and family she would be dead either way. After all there was no love for vampires among the human race, though maybe one day she could go back to the human world should she be accepted into it once more.

The guilt that was shown in his eyes quickly vanished at the accented voices as the spoke to him. It gave him enough time to hide all that he didn't want the others to know. And since they were focused on the girl it would probably work for a while. "Get you're own then," He said bored looking to the french vampire. "Or are you still to slow to do that your self?" He asked, raised an eyebrow to her as he grinned mockingly. He then turned his attention on to the the Romanian as he laughed to Nicolas' insult of the French woman. "Let me guess you too are to pathetic to go out to get your own food am I to assume I suppose to father your both and feed you?" He asked sounding bored again.

"How dare you insult me like i am nothing but a fledgling!" Growled the Romanian taking a step forward as he was being mocked as weak. "I am older than you Nicolassss," He hissed, eyes narrowing in a silent demand that he be obeyed and respected.

"Then you'll have no problem finding your own food then be it from the blood bank or fresh from the vein." Nicolas said with a shrug holding onto his newly made familiar pressing her against his body. "Now you three need to back away and stay away from MY human or I will quite happily rip both your hearts out," He warned hoping the girl would play along at least until she was safe from the other three vampires.

"This is not overrrr, you vill hear from the council about this,"
The Romanian threatened keeping his eyes narrowed. It was a threat that would normally work on the weaker vampires but he knew Nicolas wasn't them, at one time his love for the humans would have made him weak but now he wasn't and the Romanian was proven right in his inner thoughts when hearing the sweet, humorless laughter that freed it's self form Nicolas.

"And you will tell them what exactly, because any thing you say well make you into a laughing stalk and a weakling" Nick said looking levelly at the three, at lest the last one had the sense to be an observer and not join in the reindeer games of the other two. "Now on lest time stay away from this human or you will die by my hand," Nicholas warned in finality looking to the other two vampires waiting for what more they had to say. "Capiche?"

User ImageThe French woman waved her hand at him dismissively, losing interest. It was no fun when he got so serious about it. She'd only wanted a taste of the adorable little girl he was holding so possessively. "Do not get so pissy, Nicky. If she is your petite collation, there is no need to start a fight. Come, Pyotr, perhaps she has little friends waiting for her." Giving the vampire a smirk, she patted the Russian's arm with a toss of her head that clearly said Nicholas and his new familiar weren't worth her time.

Oh, how fun it would be to throw the girl to the proverbial wolves when she was summoned in front of the council to deem her suitable to be a familiar. Once accepted, she would have free reign of their territory - or at least within her vampire's influence. Such a person, neither human nor vampire, could easily murder the vampires while they slept. That was the main reason most older ones had a familiar - protection, serving as guard dogs to defend their masters while they slumbered, hidden away from the sun. They ran errands during the day, conspired with familiars who served their own vampire's allies. But their main purpose was to keep their masters alive. Especially with such turmoil going on as more and more younger vampires tried to argue for dominance over the humans.

The French vampire chuckled to herself as she sashayed away. Yes, it would be such fun indeed. Nicky had never taken a familiar, as far as she knew.

Throughout the exchange, Avery remained dead quiet and only remembered she was supposed to breathe when the three vampires strode off. She wasn't sure whether the quiet vampire frightened her the most, just standing there and observing them with a calculating stare. Shivering against the vampire - Nicholas - as they walked away, the young woman sighed in relief before realizing she was able to sigh. He'd....she'd been healed, so that meant...she really was a familiar now. Her entire human life was just....done. Ended. Finished. Avery was astonished to realize that she wasn't feeling quite as horrified or frightened or whatever else she really should be. It wasn't like her life was that great. Although, she didn't really like getting it ripped away.

But then again, he'd saved her life, ironically enough. She still was coming to terms with what had just happened and wondering about the cryptic threats the Russian vampire had hissed at him. It would take a while to decide whether to be grateful or pissed off. Dropping her forehead to rest against his chest as she heaved a sigh, she closed her eyes. At least she hadn't gotten her heart ripped out or whatever icky things they were surely thinking about doing. And what council? "My name's Avery," she managed weakly, realizing he didn't even know her name. She wasn't sure if thanks were quite appropriate, so she left it at that.
User Image

The Romanian vampire glared at Nicolas and let out a low growl but followed the French woman's lead as she pulled him away from the fight with Nick. He did not like being pulled away from his fight with the vampire holding the human though it gave him an idea on how he could attack Nicolas at another time. He'd always known the vampire across form him had a soft spot for humans, and his protectiveness over the human was proof. It was the only way he could have been pulled away from the vampire human combo. "Fine Marie, but this is not over," He growled to Nicolas and followed the French vampire away from the two.

"Nicolas," he said to her loosening his grip from around her so she could push away and free herself from him. He didn't blame her for thinking him as the monster the rest of the human population, he pushed away the thought and his thoughts of how he would feel at the thought of being scorned and grouped together with the rest. He put on an expressionless face hardening himself for the hatred that was sure to come from her once every thing it all hit her.

"Come before others come and they take us to the council before you're ready," He said looking at her then away towards the road that would eventually lead to his house. "Can you walk?" He asked looking back to her curiously trying to feel her body's strength if his blood helped give back her energy or if it was still repairing her broken body.

User ImageRather than push away, Avery found herself simply settling back. Maybe she'd always lacked the self-preservation instinct humans had, but she'd never found vampires truly terrifying. Frightening, like any human who killed others. But most vampires seemed to simply want to coexist. It was like any other species, any other race - there were good ones and bad ones, and most were in between. No vampire had ever hurt her. It was humans, in fact, that had done all the hurting in her life.

True, he'd just screwed her life up royally. Ended it, as a matter of fact. But he'd also saved her from dying. Still struggling with which to be more angry about, she straightened out her clothes and started to walk after him. Before he asked his question, she hadn't even fully registered what his blood and the ensuing transformation had done for her. Looking down at herself, she pressed her palm against her former broken rib gingerly and blinked when it didn't so much as hint at pain. "I can walk. I think I'm almost healed, actually," she admitted in shock. If Avery knew the extent of the damage, she would have been even more amazed. As it was, she didn't realize she'd been dying.

"Why did you do that?" she asked suddenly, needing some sort of answer. It didn't matter how trite or cliche or vague it might end up being. Something was better than nothing. "And, what's the council? I've heard enough about familiars that vampires normally don't just pick 'em off the streets," the young woman remarked, with something hinting at dry humor hidden beneath fear and confusion.
User Image

Nicolas nodded his head and started down the street as she told him that she was practically healed and she could. "Good," He said gruffly to her walking slow so that she could keep up. As he walked he pulled out his pack of cigarettes from his pocket putting a stick in between his lips before lighting and retreating into his own thoughts. He took a drag of the stick in his lips and slowly breathed it out.

It wasn't until she spoke again that he showed that he knew she was still there. He looked at her again raising an eyebrow to her words. "Why what....oh that" He said his mind catching up to what she was asking him. "I felt like it," He said simply with a shrug, of course he was lying but why should he scare her more then she already was? Or even give her his true reason it wasn't like she would thank him in the long run. He kept walking turning his gaze a head and taking another drag of his smoke she kept asking him her questions.

"The council is like you're human government," He answered her thinking of a way to explain what their style of government was. "They are there to agree or not on a vampire familiars or on their dealings with the human world," He told her with a shrug realizing that he in all honesty wasn't sure what the council did anymore. He'd had stopped paying attention to their dealing's long ago when he started getting bored of everything that had gone on in either world.

"Well if that's what you've heard then it must be true,"
He said with a shrug looking to her once again dropping his cigaret on the road they walked on. "I have no idea." He admitted to the woman he'd saved.

He wasn't really instilling any sort of confidence in him. At all. Avery was tempted to ask how old he was, actually, but thought that might be really, really rude. At least for their first hour stuck together. It could be more terrible, she tried to reason. He could be abrasive or cruel or spiteful, plenty of things. Nicholas just seemed sort of...apathetic about whatever he talked about. He saved her because he felt like? The former human didn't know if he was lying for some reason, but it seemed a stupid explanation why you'd save someone's life and end it all in one fell swoop. Selfish, too.

And if she was stuck with him, she didn't want to believe he was that selfish and idiotic. She found it sort of weird he was smoking, unsure if they even needed to breathe at all. Normally she hated being around it, the smell and the taste the smoke left in her mouth were disgusting. But, she guessed it really couldn't hurt her now, so what did it matter?

Shoving her hands in her coat pockets, Avery sighed. "What if they decide I'm not fit to be one?" she asked. "Do you get a say in it? Or are they just going to kill me?" Her voice wobbled a bit when she asked that, unable to keep it completely steady. If he didn't know anything about familiars, that was....that was so not reassuring it was funny. Funny in a, I'm going to laugh instead of cry, sort of way. "I do know I can't go home, so...what happens to me now?" the young woman asked hesitantly, not sure if she really even wanted the answer.

Avery rounded her shoulders and looked around, curiosity overcoming depression and the overwhelming urge to cry. She wasn't dead, but she didn't have a life anymore. She was alive, but she was dead to everything and everyone she knew. She was completely and utterly dependent on the vampire next to her right now and that thought frightened her a bit more than anything else. It really didn't seem like he knew what to do with her. Well, that made two of them.
User Image

"Then they don't see you fit?"
Nicolas said with a shrug going into his thoughts again. He tilted his head listening to her as she continued to talk and ask her questions. "Look what ever they say you are or not doesn't matter, I'll deal with what ever they say I should do and refuse them." He told her simply letting it mean what ever to her. It was just his way of telling her that if she so chose to, he would keep her safe or as safe as he could while being her 'master'. He shivered at the thought and the word he didn't like being above some one else it just wasn't his calling.

"Look I've never done this before, nor have I ever cared to" He told her shrugging his shoulders and looking at her. He was slightly surprised at how well she was taking his choice of ruining her human life. It was better than he expected but he still assumed she was in shock by what had happened since their meeting. "In all my 300 years I have never wanted to do to some one what I just did to you," He said letting the conversation drop until his earlier explanation of what he did what she did was because he'd felt like it. "At least not until tonight," He then finished looking a head.

"We're almost there just a few more minuets," He told her lifting a hand and point to a house that looked more like the Gothic style church rather than a house. "You're free to do whatever you want, just be careful of going out a night until they realize to belong to me" His words of ownership over her made him shudder. "At least until they all realize that you're mine and not some stupid human coming in here because she wants a thrill or on a dare." He said then looked back the way they'd come to the left over bodies of the idiot men who wanted to prove the bigoted human's were right. "Or being like those moronic human's back there," Nicolas finished pulling his gaze from behind to Avery then to the road a head.
