Max started the steamer and drove them toward the place where he had seen the tank. The road became dirt soon after they had started. Being out in the woods he had expected it to do that sooner or later. As they chugged through the woods on the old logging road, Max's ever watchful eyes scanned the tree line for signs of traps and road side bombs.

He pulled into the barnyard he had seen the day before almost 20 minutes later. The steam car moved slowly toward the barn ith Max behind the wheel. He stopped then and began to use his swords to poke around for land mines, double checking the area so he knew for sure there wasn't a threat that could harm Avery, Jamie, or Lupa.

Max had picked his way to the tank with out any trouble. Hacking at thin air over the ground, he cut where some one could have used a tripwire between the tank and the edge of the grass. satisfied that there was nothing there he waved to Avery, signing the all clear.

Avery sat and waited silently Jamie opened his mouth to talk but was silenced when she glared him into silence. She watched Max while he looked abit odd slashing and cutting at air with nobody to threaten him she understood it and it was sweet.

Soon he gave the all clear and she looked to Lupa and Jamie and together they climbed out with Avery in the back ad Jamie in the middle.

Max turned on his heel, sword held at the ready as he watched the barn and buildings for people to ambush them. However as they walked up to him by the tank on its trailer, Max saw nothing in the windows of the house or the stalls of the barn. He did however see some usefull things in the barn: A snow plow that would fit on the front of his steamer, several flakes of straw (for fire starting), a maul, a double bladed ax, and many other things.

walking in after these things, Max picked up the ax, testing it's weight in his hand. He lifted the maul onto his shoulder with the ax and passed them to Jamie. "Here, you can use these so your sister don't have to get wood. and you can keep the ax." He said kindly as Jamie looked over his new things.

Max nodded to Avery as he passed her, going for the house. He walked slowly to the house and pushed the door open. It hung on squeaky hinges as he slowly moved through the house, sword at the ready. he watched everything and listened as he moved through the house ever so slowly.

Once Max was certain that the house was empty, he pulled the blankest off the beds and piled them up with several things that could be used to save peoples lives. Caned foods and jugs went into the pile along with plastic bags, matches, a cook pot and a skillet, and some old coal oil lamps he took extra good care of. Some of those could have been around for hundreds of years. Max placed everything in to the bags and blankets he had found so that they wouldn't break, rip through the bundles, or cut anything.

When Max left the house he had several bundles in his arms. The lamps he held carefully in his hands as he was going to put them into the steamer so that they wouldn't be hurt.

Jamie seemed pleased with his new weapon. He smiled and ran his fingers along the handle and the blade. He nodded to Max "Thanks man, This is fantastic" he said with a giddy smile. He didnt notice Max as he walked off but Avery did.

She nodded in response and kept watch while Max rifled through everything and grabbed more supplies. She saw nothing and kept her eyes moving while part of her mind wandered off. She loved Max, and this was quick but, It felt right and she couldnt help but wonder if there were other things he wasnt telling her, more secrets she doesnt know about maybe? She tried to think about it more but heard footsteps and snapped her head in that direction, seeing Max she smiled and moved to help him, grabbing some of the supplies he grabbed, walking behind him to the truck.

Max sat the new stuff into the back of the steamer and stored them all away. He folded the blankets up and put them into a new compartment so he can wash them later. He watched as Avery helped him from the corner of his eye. It was happening so fast it was making his head spin. But he was for sure falling harder and harder for her every day. He felt like he was responsible for her safety and that of their little family. and he wasnt going to let anything happen top them.

She finished and smiled, looking over her shoulder she saw Jamie and Lupa coming to join them. She glanced over at Max and tucked a hair behind her ear with a shy smile. Her head spun, her heart raced and she wasn't going to let the militia take them away from her.

Max smiled and leaned over to her. He pressed a kiss on her lips and grinned as Jamie and Lupa climbed int. Max set Avery on the truck and got in the front seat then. He engaged the steam engine and turned the car around to hook to the tank. He backed the car to the tank, hooked to it, then pulled away slowly as to not jar the tank over much.

Avery smiled blushing now and kissed him back lightly. She giggled as Jamie and Lamie climbed in and let him set her on the truck and made herself comfortable. She watched him hook the tank on the truck and smiled as they pulled away.

Max pulled out onto the road with the tank behind them. He had a 10 000 gallon tank, but he wasn't going to stand there and put them in one at a time, there was just no way in hell. He puttered along the road, scanning for signs of life along the old dirt path, when he happened upon an object that he knew would ease their burden greatly.

He pulled a hook pole out from behind his seat and eased over to the side of the road, not slowing down. The car barreled past the object and he caught it on the tine of the pole. Pulling in his catch he grinned and sat the bilge pump into the car. It was a manual pump and the cylinder didn't look cracked. If the internals were intact then they could get water into the tank and filtered exponentially. faster.

Avery sat in silence and watched as he pulled something up from the side of the road. Peering at it she noticed it was a pump of some kind "what's that?" She asked Max curiously. Jamie looked at her as if she was stupid and shook his head " it's a bilge pump stupid, dad used to have one" he said annoyed. She rolled her eyes and decid to shut her mouth listening to the sounds of the car as it puttered along.

Max threw Jamie a dirty look as he insulted his sister. His job was to drive, He drove. Nodding to that fact that he was set to do a job. He drove them down the dirt road and back onto the highway. The tires of the car hummed pleasantly as he cruised down the road.

Catching the dirty look the male glared back and just as Avery had looked up. She gave a sigh and shook her head "Jamie be nice, seriously? Max is kind enough to let you tag along so to best behave" she said firmly annoyed at his attitude. He glowered at her and scoffed "You're just defending him because you like having sex with him, course you would, you like it so much you make him send me off every free chance you guys get.....damn rabbits might as well just walk to safety" he said shaking he head as he looked away.Averys jaw dropped open, speechless now she stared at him and than inhaled and looked away hurt and annoyed she wouldn't let Max see her face now.

Max's eyes lit with fury at the comment from Jamie. His hands gripped the steering wheelwith a death grip as he strove to not hurt the boy if he hit him. When they got to a straight streach of road Max pressed the steerig wheel lock and spun around in his seat, his left hand catching Jamie's collar and throwing him to the floor while the other went into the pair of brass knuckles in his pocket. Max punched three times and held the boy by his throat. He was glad that the boys head didnt move as Max punched so hard in the steel around his head that he left dents in the diamond plate.

His expression was a snarl as he said. "That is your sister you are talking to. Shes the one who convinced me to walk into that compound and save your a**. One more out burst of disrespect like that and i will resolve my mistake. With that he released Jamie and kissed Avery's head before getting back into his seat and taking the wheel again.
