Shannon's face turned ashen white as his mouth trembled angrily. For a moment it looked as though he would slam his curled fists straight through the coffee table. But he remembered she was sleeping in the other room, and so he kept his anger to himself, as much as he wanted to scream at that moment. It took Shannon a good while before he could calm down enough to speak. "Isn't there anything we can do?" He asked, his voice dripping with frustration.

Whitney sighed with relief as Randy left. Tired he plopped into the wheelie chair by the counter. He couldn't help but feel sorry for that woman. What could he do to make her life better? True it wasn't his place to make up for all the wrong Pegasus had done, but still...

"Whit-ney!" came a cheeful voice. "I'm on break, what are you up to?" Landon asked as she poked her head over his shoulder, offering him a flavored, chilled canned coffee. "How are Randy's stitches doing?" she asked casually, already drinking her own iced coffee. "It looks like Roi has been taken to another level of the hospital, so at least for a little while we can take her mind off of her, our doctors are the best I've ever seen, they don't even tell us lowlifes in the regular hospital what they're doing down there. If she can be fixed, I'm sure they'll figure it out!" Of course she was completely oblivious to what they were really doing.

Audrey shrugged, looking away though he couldn't help but smile. "Judging from your reaction... She didn't even tell you? Of course not... She thinks she's helpless and she didn't want you to worry over nothing, but... You've made it perfectly clear how determined you are, so I'll give you this," he reached to his envelope and slid it across the table toward Shannon. "If there are any details you want, you should ask now. I've marked a map for you," his serious expression didn't waver as he spoke, "Take her there. If there's any way to keep her alive... The people here will know what it is. But, I have to warn you... It's one of those places where a lot of the more... grotesque... mutants go to have somewhere peaceful to themselves."

He waited for Shannon to remove the envelope's contents and look them over, "There's the map I mentioned, keys to one of my extra vehicles, and what should be enough money to get you there. I would've gotten you some other supplies, and I would've taken her there myself... But I've been reassigned to another top secret project. I'll give you all the information you want for Dylan. But there's something you have to do for me in return."

Shannon stared oddly at Audrey as he pulled out the map and studied it a bit. Shannon wasn't dumb, but he wasn't good at reading maps. "Can't you come with? How will going here help?" Concern rose in his voice. Shannon was a strong man, but this route led through some very dangerous areas. He doubted his ability to protect Dylan. In his panic he ignored the man's question.

Whitney jumped in his chair as Landon startled him. "Good grief..." He muttered to himself as he took the coffee...finding to his dismay that it was cold he set it down on the counter and looked up at Landon. "Your sister is doing fine. I removed the stitches today."

"Oh, good! If she's in your hands, I'm confident she's healing well, then," she eyed him as he put the coffee away, "Oh, do you not like it? Well, more for me! Next time I'll bring you a hot one!" she winked. "Well, you're looking at least a little better than yesterday... Haven't they given you a real bunk yet? I mean, not the on-call room..."

Audrey sighed heavily. "God knows I want to," he said in response to Shannon's asking him if he could come. "But..." Even he couldn't keep himself from bringing a hand to his face, rubbing it and wincing before he looked to Shannon again. "If I leave now, I'll have to give them a reason. If I tell them, they'll want her to come back here when she's healthy," he looked Shannon straight in the eye to let him know how serious he was, "If she comes back here after she's recovered, she'll wish she were dead. I can't tell you any more than that. If she survives... You have to swear to me you'll never bring her here again. Promise me that much, and I'll tell you all about this place and how you'll get there safely."

"Alright." Shannon grimly agreed as he leaned forward. While he wasn't eager to leave the safety of the dome, if it was in Dylan's best interest. "Now...what you said before. What do you want from me in return?" He asked, suddenly remembering the other half of his question.

Whitney sighed as he stood up, towering over the petite Landon. "No...not yet." He yawned and stretched his arms out. His stomach growled and Whitney blushed a little, placing a hand over his stomach. "Lunch time, I guess?" He laughed.

Landon rolled up her sleeve to look at her watch, "Oh, I suppose you're right... Looks like I've saved myself just long enough to eat. Why don't I take you to my secret place?" she said playfully. "There's this little hole in the wall place literally just a block from the eastern exit of the hospital. They have stir-fry that's to die for!" she said, taking his dejected canned coffee and pocketing it.

Audrey smiled slyly. "Well, one that you'll keep her away from this place. The other thing is," he reached into his shirt and pulled out a dog tag that had weird symbols engraved on it, "Give this to someone named Ashton when you get there, there's a computer chip hidden inside. She'll know what it is, and with any luck," he said, setting it down on the table, "It'll have the information she needs for Dylan. Ashton is... Old friends so to speak with McCracker. Anything he knew before they split she'll know as well. The rest," he tapped the dog tag.

"Now, then, how you'll get there..." he pointed to the envelope, indicating there was still something else inside; the steroids he'd taken from Landon.

Shannon nodded to everything Audrey said. He picked the dog tag up and looked at the strange symbols on it for a moment before slipping the chain around his neck, for safe keeping. Shannon emptied the contents of the bag unto the coffee table. "What are these?" He asked with suspicion. Knowing how well Dylan liked needles he hoped they weren't for her.

Whitney seemed hesitant, but his stomach complained too loudly for him to resist. "Um...sure." He finally agreed.

"Ohohohohoho! Good!" Landon said, cheerfully leading him through the hospital lobby, where she left her doctor's coat on the nearby coat rack, revealing the tiny high-necked minidress she always wore underneath. One would wonder if the butterfly twins even registered any sexual appeal in the garments they wore. As promised, the building was barely even a block away, and the atmosphere inside was dim, but warm and friendly, each table having its own flat grill, in the center a bar of raw, uncooked foods and sauces. "Well, all you do is fill your bowl with those goodies, then take them to your table for the chef to cook them!"

Audrey took a deep breath, "Well..." Not knowing exactly how he could explain it, he held out his hand, palm up. From nowhere, a small flame appeared in his hand, just staying there. "She should have the ability to do this... The problem is, she doesn't have the strength to do it without fainting," he closed his hand and the flame disappeared. "The terrain she can handle... In fact, the closer you get to that place... The hotter it'll get. That'll be good for her. If you run into any of those... Reapers... You'll have to force one of these on her. It'll give her enough energy to use her fire once, but it shouldn't have any nasty side effects."

He scratched his head, figuring Shannon wouldn't like that idea too much, "I'm sure you're smart enough to know this goes without saying... But it should be a last resort. Otherwise... My jeep is always full of guns and ammo. I've heard she's pretty good with things that explode... I'm sure she could handle a gun as well," he shrugged, "I have a lot of friends out that way. If they sense her fast enough, they might be able to meet you part way... But, unless you have any other ideas..."

Shannon stroked his chin thoughtfully. "I should get in contact with Nancy." He muttered out loud. "See if he can come..." Shannon sighed wearily. This journey, he didn't think he could do it alone. "How soon should we leave?" Shannon glanced over at the bedroom door. He knew that Dylan would only get sicker the longer he waited, but they had at least to wait until the dust storm outside disappeared.

Whitney seemed out of place in a restaurant with so many options. He finally picked out some fairly normal options and followed Landon's lead to the table. "We didn't have things like this in Pegasus's dome..." He said with astonishment.

Audrey sat up straight and recrossed his arms, almost staring at the ceiling as he spoke. "Mm... If she's had them for about a week... If you don't run into any trouble, it'll take a day and a half to two days of straight driving. I'd say she'll live unaided for another week at the most. If she starts to wane or sleeps for more than ten hours... Give her one of those needles for that too. They'll give her another good week if necessary. But you should leave as soon as you can, only don't tell anyone except the captain where you're going. Actually," his gaze fell from the ceiling back to Shannon. "While the captain might not know most of the medical hooey... He'll definitely know how to sustain her in an emergency until you get there. He's been there and done that. But y'know," he eyed Shannon for a moment, "No matter what Ashton tries to do to her... You can't interfere. Nancy knows how severe the treatments can be... But no matter what, they'll be a lot kinder than what'll happen to her here. If I can live through what they did to me here, she can definitely survive Ashton's treatment..." he hoped.

"You didn't have stir-fry back at the Pegasus dome?" Landon joked as they gave their bowls to the cook, who promptly went to cooking their meals, making sure to make it as much of a show with his dancing spatulas as well. "Well, I hope you like whatever you picked out!"

Shannon hated to admit it but he was scared, so very scared. "Alright then." He said decisively as he stood, figuring there wasn't much else they could talk about. "I will tell only Nancy...and we will leave as soon as the storm lets up." Shannon turned to look out of the window. The haunting red glow still covered the dome. Suddenly Shannon remember something, or rather someone, that he had all but forgotten of. "What of the bird girl?" He asked hesitantly, suddenly realizing that he hadn't paid her any heed since Pegasus's dome.

Whitney laughed nervously. "I hope so too. We'll, here goes nothing." He had an unsure look on his face as he tried to pick up his food with the two sticks that had been provided. Fumbling awkwardly Whitney stabbed a piece of chicken with the stick and ate it like that. What a strange restaurant. THey couldn't even afford silverware. Well...times were tough.

Landon giggled and covered her mouth with her hand. She was quite the expert with chopsticks, and while she wanted to teach him how to use them, it was too cute to watch him struggle like that! Men were such silly creatures after all. "You know, you could just tilt your plate up and scrape it into your mouth that way..." she teased.

A disturbed look went across Audrey's face as he too stood. "What's going on with Roi... Is confidential. Would that I had the necessary means, I'd get her out of here... But that's all I can say. That, and if you let Dylan end up where Roi is... I'll kill you myself. Roi has a strong spirit and a drive I can't quite explain. But Dylan isn't the same as she is... I'm not sure how to describe it. But somehow I have trouble believing that Roi is the 'angel' in that legend they're always spouting around here."

He put one hand on his hip, "I think Roi is strong enough to overcome anything. But I think for Dylan to reach that level... She has to be treated delicately. I've read a few of McCracker's past dragon kin cases before Dylan and I've spoken sparingly to Ashton... If Ashton's theories are correct... It's something different Dylan'll need to get better..."

Shannon was a little disappointed that Audrey couldn't fill him in further than that. But he agreed in his assumption that the legend was wrong. "Yes...Dylan is very delicate. In contrast, no matter how badly you beat down Roi she somehow gets back up again." He admired her foolish courage. She must have been really brave to kill Pegasus. "Is there anything else I should know?" He asked, turning back to look at Audrey again.

Whitney looked up from his plate and glared at Landon. He was no fool. He could clearly see that no one else in the restaurant was eating that way. "How do you do that?" He asked with frustration, looking in envy at her hand which held the two sticks gently and managed to pick up the food.

The morning dawn doth rise again.
Forlorn the bellows of the eastern kiln.
Take up your arms ye soldier of the din
and fall once more in the pit of death's end.
Landon smiled kindly. "Of course," she said, setting down her chopsticks and taking one of his hands in both of hers. "Here," she took one stick and positioned it in his fingers, then the other, still holding his hand as she guided it over the plate and helped him pick up a piece, "Like this! Although, there are a couple different ways to do it, let's see how this one works for you."

Audrey had been staring a little solemnly at the bedroom door until he realized Shannon was looking at him. "What? Oh," he crossed his arms and eyed the things sprawled on the table as he tried to think of anything else at all that could be helpful. He wanted so badly to go with them, but the last thing he wanted to do was draw any suspicion towards them as they left... It would be better for them all if he stayed behind.

"...I guess not. But if you have any more questions before you leave, I'll be around, so..." he looked away, feeling a seering hatred for himself, "Just take care of her, okay?"
