A sigh escaped a man's lips as the sun peeked through his red silk curtains. Could it be morning already? Last time he checked it was only 9 in the evening. One of his eyes slowly opened, revealing the golden brown irises that were hidden. The soft sunlight his his eye instantly, making him pull the soft and large blankets over his head in attempt to pretend night had fallen once more.

It was about to work, when there was a light rapping on the door. "Sire, your father requires that you be in the dining hall in thirty minutes." A mans voice called through the heavy wooden door. "Yes, Daniel. I shall be there in twenty!" He called back. By this point, both of his eyes were open and peering around his rahter large room. Of course! Today was the day that he would see Audrey again, the woman he was betrothed to.

Audrey was a beautiful woman. Kind and caring as well. She had golden hair that flowed down to her waist, and eyes that were as green as their grass that grew. She had a light sprinkle of freckles that went from cheek to cheek, crossing her nose. Her teeth were perfectly white and straight. Her voice was sweet and charming and full of love. He was considered lucky to be engaged to a woman as charming as her. Of course, he loved her to death. But it was more like in a sisterly way. Their families had been long time friends, so the two had always spent their time together. But never had they thought that they would be getting married until a few months ago. Now, their wedding was only four months away.

He slipped out of his bed and walked over to the bathroom with a marble floor and a golden bath tub. The coldness of the floor shocked his feet for a moment, but he pushed it aside with ease. The bath had already been drawn for him, so all he had to do was strip down and get in. Then, he proceeded to wash himself quickly. Once he was out, he wrapped the fluffy towel around his waist and walked into his spacious closet. There, the towel was dropped and he picked out his normal clothes for the day; black slacks and a white button up shirt. He put on white wool socks and slipped on his black leather shoes last. He took the towel and dried his hair before walking out of his room.

Once he had reached the dining room, Daniel stood up and let cleared his throat. His mother, father, and younger sister fell silent at the long oak table that was before him. Audrey and her family followed soon after. They all looked towards him with smiles on their faces. "Prince Alexx Valiures has arrived for brunch." Daniel then escorted the prince to his seat next to Audrey. The glorious food was brought out on silver platters and the room filled up with wonderful aromas. Life was good.

"Good morning, Alexx." Audrey beamed her eyes filled with excitement to see her old friend once more. "Good morning to you as well, Audrey. I trust that you slept well?" He asked, picking up a fork as his breakfast was placed in front of him. "I slept very well, thank you." She replied. Once Alexx's father had taken a bite, everyone else began to dig in as well. As everyone cooed about how wonderful the food was, Alexx let his mind begin to wander.

◊ Hannah Anne Iles ◊

Hannah was a peasant. The lowest of the low on the royalty scale. Her parents had also been peasants, which probably explains why she is one now. Her parents had died 3 years ago when Hannah was only 16 years old. Nowadays, she missed them dearly. She often spent her days daydreaming of what her life would be like if she had different parents. She didn't regret anything that had been in her life, but she did like to dream a lot.

Today Hannah walked the streets in town. She needed to find something to eat, but of course she had no money. As she walked the streets, shouts of other people were heard. Some were directed at her. She couldn't walk by people without either getting made fun of or yelled at. Keeping her head down, she decided to get out of town for a while. Besides, there was so much ridicule a women could take.

As Hannah made her way through the forest, she let her mind wander. When she was younger, she used to pretend that she was a princess. She would dress up in dirty rags that she called her gown, and prance around the small shed that her and her parents lived in. She dreamed that she would marry a handsome prince and live in a big castle, and of course, live happily ever after. Her mother and father would laugh at her and tell her that a prince would never want to marry her. She was only a loely peasant. But still, Hannah never let the dream die.

Today though, Hannah knew deep down that her parents were right. She was a peasant. Princes married Princesses. Beautiful and rich Princesses. Sighing, Hannah sat down on a root from a tree and looked around the deep green forest. "Oh, how I still wish." She breathed softly out loud to the trees and the animals.

Breakfast seemed to pass by with flying colors. Next thing the prince knew he was walking through the garden, holding Audrey's hand. Their parents had left the two alone, wanting the two to spend quality time together. Of course, they were never alone. Guards remained hidden in the shadows, prepared for everything and almost anything that could happen when a prince and a princess were left alone with each other. By the looks of it, there was a lot that could go terribly wrong with the simple walk they took.

"Dear.. Is there something wrong?" Audrey's voice filled his ears. Alexx shook his head and gave his fiance a kind smile. "I'm fine. I suppose that I just have been thinking about riding my horse lately. It's been a week since I've taken her out. She must miss me terribly." He explained, stopping and taking her other hand as well. "I don't mind if you go for a ride. I must freshen myself for the afternoon activities we have ahead. Don't forget that we are to take a walk through town at noon." She gently poked his nose with her delicate finger. "Don't worry, love. I will be back before you know it." He gently pressed his lips against her's in a small kiss. As always, he didn't feel anything. "I shall see you soon, then." And with that, Princess Audrey walked away, a few guards trailing behind her.

Finally, he was free. After readying his horse, Alexx was off towards the forest that wasn't far off from his castle. No guards followed him, since the undesirables lived out here and they were so deep into the forest, there was no way of finding them. Rumor had it that they hunted each other at one point in order to survive the unforgiving yet gorgeous winter that fell across the land for four months every year. But today the prince was feeling daring and went a little deeper into the forest than usual.

Then the unexpected happened. A wild animal fled that was in front of him. The horse became startled and rose to her hind legs, letting out a rather loud cry. Of course Alexx fell off, not expecting this to happen. As he fell, he covered his head as best he could in order to save himself from injury. Unfortunately, his plan had failed miserably. As the horse ran away in a random direction, the prince landed on the ground with a loud thud. It was almost too easy to give into the darkness that wrapped around him, taking over his senses and promising protection.

After about 5 minutes of sitting on the root, Hannah heard a horse, a loud thud, and then silence. Curious, she ran quickly towards the noise. As she approached, she was surprised to find Prince Alexx Valiures on the ground passed out. Looking around for a guard or another person, Hannah found the place deserted. Frowning, she walked quietly over to the young price. He laid sprawled out on the dirty ground, unconscious and bleeding. As she leaned down to help him, she once again looked around, expecting a guard or someone else to come out and take her to jail for even bring near the prince. Still seeing no one, she rested her tiny hand on the chest of Alexx. His heart was beating, so she knew he wasn't dead.

Not sure what to do, Hannah bit her bottom lip and stared down at the prince. He was quite handsome. A small smile appeared over her face. She used the bottom of her dress to wipe some blood off of Alexx's head and then picked him up in her arms gently. Hannah was a strong women. Her days were spent carrying big loads of clothes or other supplies needed in town. Quickly she walked through the forest and to her small cottage in the woods.

Once there, she laid Alexx down on her bed and wet a small cloth, putting it on his forehead. Bringing up a wooden chair, Hannah sat down and looked over the prince quietly.

Colors swirled and danced behind Valiures' closed eyelids. His body was numb, not welcoming any touch to appeal to his senses. There was sounds that seemed a million miles away, yet he could still hear them. The young prince felt at peace, not knowing what was happening to him at that very moment. It was as if he were sleeping again, which was always nice. The colors welcomed his mind into the wonders of what he thought were dreams. The reds mixed in with greens, blue mixed with purple. It was all his mind would come up with besides the odd sounds.

Slowly, he gained the feeling in his hands and feet. Instead of his own soft bed he felt something different. Was it old sheets? His hands gripped the fabric gently and immediately let go of it. His bed never had old sheets on it! They were always the finest they could find and get their hands on. This seemed like it had been used for years and years. A small groan escaped his lips as feeling also returned to his arms and legs. They stung like no other. However, his eyes were unwilling to open, still. His body remained in the same place as well.

"Mmm.." He groaned, flexing his fingers and toes. They certainly didn't feel right. Nothing did. This wasn't the same warm and comforting atmosphere his room normally held. No, this was different. The bed wasn't full of soft swan feathers as his own was. This had a few lumps in it, and he could feel them. He was coming to now, forcing his eyes to open. A throbbing in his head made the prince suddenly shoot up, clutching it with his hands and letting out a painful cry.

His eyes opened, revealing a quilt underneath him, one that wasn't his own. "Wh-What the.." His eyes darted around the room, finally settling on the peasant's face. His eyes widened and he attempted to get out of the bed. That plan didn't go so well as pain consumed his body. "Who are you? What have you done to me?" He demanded, his once smooth voice now filled with pain and fear. His body screamed for him to lay down, however he ignored them. Alexx wanted answers.. And he wanted them now.

Hannah had been sitting there next to the bed, almost dozing off, when she felt Alexx start to move. It took him awhile to get feeling back in his body. She prayed silently that when he finally opened his eyes and saw her, that he wouldn't flip out and have her arrested.

As Alexx started to move around more, and then finally mutter something, Hannah got even more nervous. She didn't know if she would be in trouble for taking the prince into her home. It could be....kidnapping, couldn't it? Horrible images of a tiny jail cell formed in her mind as she watched the man silently start to wake up.

The minute that Alexx opened his eyes and looked at Hannah with fear and anger in his eyes, Hannah knew she was in big trouble. As he started to question her, Hannah stood up and moved away from the bed, trying to get far away from him as possible, just in case.
"I...sir, I'm sorry to have frightened you. My name is Hannah Iles. This is my house. You...you fell off your horse in the forest, and I took you into my home and tried to take care of you. I'm very sorry if I broke some kind of law. That wasn't my intention at all.....Your Highness." She added, nervously.

Alexx stared at the woman before him, trying to process what she had just said. By the tone of fear in her voice, he realized that he should probably calm down a bit. His eyes softened and a warm yet strained smile appeared on his face. "I see..." He murmured and tried to stand up once more. The light headed feeling came over him as he fell back onto the bed with an oomf. His eyes glazed over as the prince held his head in his hands once more.

"So.. Peasant... How long have I been here?" He asked, raising an eyebrow after the pain had somewhat subsided. Alexx motioned for the lady to sit in the wooden chair once more. Another question came to mind before he gave her a chance to answer. "You aren't going to hold me hostage for a ransom, are you, peasant." He paused for a moment before clearing his throat and nodding slightly. "Pardon me, Hannah Iles." He added quietly.

As she talked, the prince took in the time to look her over a little bitter. For one, her eyes were absolutely gorgeous. Unlike Audrey's they were blue (Pardon me if I'm wrong xD). Her hair was a lovely reddish brown color, complimenting the tone of her skin. In his eyes, she was too beautiful for a peasant status. But from the looks of her own, she was almost the lowest of the low. It almost scared him that she lived in here. But once a peasant, always a peasant. No matter how low or high that stat was.

Every time Prince Alexx called her peasant, Hannah flinched. She didn't get why he had to say it so much. To remind her of how low on the royalty chain she was? Well, she already knew that. But of course she didn't dare say a word about it to him. She knew better then that. Realizing that Alexx had been asking her questions, she looked at him and decided to answer.

"You've been here for a day. And no, I'm not going to keep you here. I was only taking care of you, Your Highness...."
She told him quietly as she played with the frayed edges of her blouse. She didn't know why she was so nervous around this prince. She had been around many, sure. She knew she was pretty much scum to them, but she never let it bring her down and make her feel like a tiny child.

Deciding to change her ways, she glared at the prince. "And I would appreciate it if you would stop calling me peasant every 5 seconds. I am well aware where I stand, thank you very much." She told him with attitude. She wasn't going to be scared of Alexx. no matter if he was a prince or not.

His eyes widened a little. A whole day?? His parents must be worried sick! As well as Audrey and his sister. Were they on the search for them? Where had they looked? Was the forest even an option at this point? A million questions ran through his head all at once, making the prince dizzy. Even now he had a problem with keeping his eyes open. Why hadn't she alerted his parents that she had found their son? Surely his mother and father wouldn't have punished her for that if it meant she saved his life...

Alexx glared right back at her. "I shall call you whatever I please! If I wish to call you peasant, than that's what I shall call you! If I wish to call you Hannah or Miss Iles, I will!" He boomed, his eyes never leaving hers. His arms were now folded across his chest and he looked a little more upwards, just enough to see the ceiling. "I am Prince Alexx Joshua Valiures and I will do as I please!" He added, his arms not moving from his place.

If she was going to be like that, then the prince would have no respect for her. No matter what good deed she did. Alexx was never the one to put up with this. Shouldn't she know better? Besides the king, the prince was the next highest rank in the land. That is until the king died, then it went the queen and then him. He had the power to do virtually anything he wanted to do. And she was just another bump in the road in his eyes. Sure, she had beauty beyond compare, but she was a peasant. Nothing good could come from them.

Hannah glared at the prince. She couldn't believe how unmannerly he was! She stood up and walked over to the sink, getting herself some water. As she sipped from the dirty glass, she continued her rant."Excuse me?! I don't care if you are the king of the world! There is no reason for you to talk to me like that! Sure, I'm a peasant. I'm the lowest of the low. But don't you go treating me that way! Didn't your father ever teach you to respect a lady?" She rambled, getting angrier by the second.

Finishing her water, she put the glass in the sink and walked back over to the bed. She couldn't believe that she saved his life, and this was how he was repaying her. She should have left him in the forest. Let the guards or whoever watched him, save his life. Groaning, she walked out of the small cottage, trying to get as far away from this infuriating prince as possible.

After she had left the cottage, the prince sat there for a moment, stunned. Had she really just told him off? No one had ever dared to do that to him before! In a way, it sort of... turned him on. Having someone stand up to him was sort of like giving him a challenge. Oh, how he loved challenges! Normally, the peasants would bite their tongues and simply nod, allowing him to rave and rant about whatever he pleased. He always had it so easy.

But this girl- Hannah - he reminded himself, wasn't going to take his bull s**t. It thrilled and entertained him. Of course he wouldn't show it one bit as he slowly stood up and walked towards the door. His body ached and his joints were grinding together with every movement that he dared to make. But he wasn't going to let her get away with this without some sort of a fight.

"Of course he has! But I don't take that sort of talk when someone such as yourself feeds it to me." He snapped back once he had reached her. She looked stressed, which both amused and made him feel a little guilty. However, he hid it fairly well. The sun reflected off of his golden eyes, making them slightly sparkle as he continued. "Haven't your parents taught you how to treat royalty?" He questioned, folding his arms across his chest.

Hannah had only walked a little bit when she heard Prince Alexx walk up behind her, ranting and raving. Rolling her eyes, she let him continue, her back still to him. As he finished, Hannah turned around to face him, face red. "No! My parents taught me to stand up for myself. No matter who the person is. Royalty doesn't give you the right to talk innocent people down! I saved your life, sir!" She screamed at him. She was getting tired of fighting with Alexx, but she wasn't going to let him get the last word.

After she said what she wanted, she turned back around and started walking away again. For some reason though, a smile came to her face. She had never felt so....alive! Talking to high royalty like this? She couldn't believe how brave she was being.

Once again, the prince as stunned only this time he didn't stand there forever. Instead he raised an eyebrow and gave a slight chuckle. "You may have saved my life, Hannah," He replied with a slight smile. The whole time they were talking his voice remained perfectly even and smooth. This was beginning to entertain him instead of just pissing him off. "But I don't remember a thing about you saving my life... If that's what you did. Or maybe you hit me over the head and you're trying to trick me into thinking you're the good one." His tone was joking, and he even had a small smile on his face.

As she stormed off again, he followed her more slowly. Once he had caught up with her he gently placed a hand on her shoulder, stopping them both. "You really have some nerve to talk to royalty like this..." He murmured, looking her in the eye. His expression softened a little bit and his smile became more warm. "I suppose I haven't been fair, Hannah." He sighed lightly, now taking his hand off her shoulder.

"But, being a peasant isn't necessarily a bad thing... It's better than having tons of pressure being put on you to set a wonderful example for the kingdom, having to wear these dreadfully warm clothes during summer, or only being able to marry certain people.. I would trade places with a peasant any day. But I don't think I could handle it for long..." He sighed, his eyes still glued to hers.

As his hand rested on her shoulder, Hannah relaxed a little. She turned around to face him, studying him. "You would want to be a peasant? Prince Alexx, I don't think you realize just how luck you really are. You get everything you've ever wanted. People basically kiss your behind." She told him, envy lacing her soft voice.

She couldn't believe what Alexx was saying. He wished he was a peasant? She would give anything and everything to be looked at without disgust tinging people's eyes. Sighing, she looked down at the ground and then back up at him. Something else he had said weighed on her mind.

"You are getting forced to get married?"
She asked him quietly.
