He felt something stir on him. A pained moan escaped his lips, as if her movement had caused him pain. Off and on throughout his escape into dreams what little memories he possessed had been plaguing him. He remembered a great fire which consumed many. A fire which he had been responsible for. He remembered the flood, which had nearly ended their war. He remembered the countless armies which fought and died according to their will. He remembered the pain. He remembered glowing eyes as pain flooded his body. However, he also remembered something else. A calm, beautiful face... "Elyssa!" He moved forward, jumping as he startled himself out of his slumber. Shaking his head, he looked down at Mia who was still in his lap. "You're awake," he said, already the incidents from his dreams fading into a gray mist. "Did you sleep well?" He ran his hands through her hair once more, pushing it from her face and neck.

Mia would have protested were it any other man brushing her hair...yet, she almost welcomed it. The bond between them seemed to avoid any walls she had around herself about strange men. "Who...is Elyssa?"

He looked at her funny for a moment. He tried to think back to the last thing he said. Finally he just shrugged. "I am not certain," he admitted. "Just a phantom from my past I assume."

She sat up, leaving his touch. "Maybe she was your last master...though you said your last one was Tutankhamen...then again, maybe you lost some of your memories," she said. "Tutankhamen lived centuries ago, I'm sure there was another fight after that and before this one."

"I do not believe that I have ever lost my memories before, though I might have simply forgotten that I lost them." He chuckled slightly at that. "Though it matters not. The past is the past, and this is the present which I am in. Tutankhamen was the last master I remember. He had a strong heart, and I gained much power from that. I hope that with you my power will exceed what I can imagine."

Mia laughed at that. "I have nothing to offer. I have little courage and zero strength. I don't know much about battles and I've never seen a real fight before unless you could the high school fights..." She stood and grabbed some clothes for a shower. "I think I'll take you out for breakfast."

His face darkened as he heard this. "Then we will have to be careful until my body has adjusted and my full strength returns. A warrior's power is amplified by the heart of their guardian." A weak heart meant a weak warrior.

Mia placed her hand over her heart. "My heart?" She sighed. Going to the bathroom she closed the door and started the shower. What good was she? She was no pharaoh and she was no general with great power. She was just a normal girl. But...how did she end up with Neron? He had called to her, at least she felt like he did...and yet she had nothing to offer him like a normal master. He...would regret having her at his side.

While she showered, he closed his eyes to meditate. He was extremely weak. He did not know if he was the first to awaken or one of the last. Opening his eyes, they glowed with a faint blue light. Extending his hand outward he winced as a bony blade began to extend from his flesh. It wasn't much, but at least he had access to the most basic forms of his power. He extended it about a food from his hand. Moving cautiously, it took him a few moments to remember its strength. Closing his eyes, he winced once more as the blade began to recede back into his body. The wound which had opened from him using the blade began to close, leaving a wound which was already scabbing over.

Looking to his hand and at the wound he had taken from Mia earlier, he pulled off the scab from it, revealing the soft pink flesh beneath. Squeezing his hand, he groaned as he looked down and saw the blood spatters from his blade. Going to the kitchen, he grabbed some paper towels to wipe it up. No need for Mia to know about his little experiment.

Mia dressed after her shower and brushed her hair out. She walked out of the bathroom and grabbed her keys. "Come on...let's get something to eat," she said and started out.

He looked up at her and nodded. Following her down the stairs to her car, he looked around. People walked by and didn't give him a second glance. It seemed the clothes she had bought him made him fit in well enough. So far so good.

Mai drove them to a local hot spot for breakfast. She went there a lot and the food reminded her a lot of home. Walking in she took him to a booth and showed him the menu. "Anything you want."

He looked at the menu. He had no idea what was on it, but at least he had picture to guide him. He pointed at a simple image of pancakes and sausage. "This looks good," he told her with a smile. Looking around at all the people, he was surprised at just how many people there were. They were everywhere! They were in cars, in shops, walking down the street, in the eating area.

"Tell me, Mia. What is it that you do?"
They had talked about the world, and he realized most of the jobs he knew were no longer in existence. "You had mentioned something about college. What is that exactly?"

She smiled at him and gave the waiter their order. "It's school. But it's school for those who wish to future their lives with a greater career, like a doctor or a lawyer."

"Ah." A girl was staring at him and smiling so he looked over and smiled at her. "People are certainly more friendly in this era," he said more to himself than anything. "So what do you wish to do? Are you one who wants to be a doctor or a lawyer?"

Some people play tennis, I erode the human soul.
