"Mia, that is a strange name," he sighed. "As I told you, my name is whatever you desire it to be. I believe my last master called me...Pluto. He was a roman general, and I do not believe that such a name is...fitting with your strange customs."

"Pick a name. Any name you want. If I end up naming you...you'll end up being stuck with something silly, like the cat I had when I was younger, his name was Sir Purrs A lot. Do you honestly think you want someone like me naming you?"

He shrugged. "A name is simply something that one uses to identify another. It does not matter to me. If you wish for me not to have a name that is just as well. As I told you before, my only purpose is to fight for Perses."

Mia groaned. "Fine! Be difficult! Go nameless for all I care!" Grabbing her pajamas, she walked over to the corner of her room where a screen was set up. Moving behind it, she began to change.

He nodded. She was odd. This would be the first time he would not have a name. It mattered little, however. Taking the dish he set it down and looked back at the glowing screen. His fingers touched it, trying to understand what strange magic had created such a device. He looked over the strange words which ran over it. His bond with the girl allowed him to speak her language, but her words were still foreign to him.

"Don't touch the screen. It's LCD. You'll ruin it," she said as she came out from behind the changing screen. She braided her hair and let it rest on her shoulder. Going to the bags she had with his clothes, she dumped them on the bed and started hanging them. How as she going to explain to her parents that she had an extra mouth to feed? She would have to put more away from her allowance....there went her shopping plans. She walked over and turned on the TV to watch while she hung up his clothes.

Though he wished to ask her questions, it seemed that he was going to have to learn things for himself. He sat before the moving picture box, curious about how the people managed to fix themselves into such a tiny thing. He watched it with interest, completely tuning out everything else. This world was strange...but fascinating.

Mia watched him watch the TV with interest. She finished the clothes then walked over to him, sitting next to him on her tiny couch. Maybe she wasn't being fair to him. Of course learning all this was hard on her...but it was hard on him too. The only life he knew was one of fighting. Turning off the TV, she turned to him.

"I'll call you...Neron. It means 'sea' in Spanish and since I found you by the sea...it's fitting," she said smiling. "Is that ok with you?"

He looked at her. "Neron," he said, trying the name out for himself. Slowly he nodded. "Yes, since that is what you want my name to be that, then I will gladly answer to it."

Mia took his hand. "I'm not asking you to take it because I chose it. I'm asking if you like the name."

He looked down at his hand. Females of the era were far more forward than he had expected. "I have nothing to really compare it to. My previous names were ones that signified the era. If you think it is a fitting name, then I like it." He flashed her a smile to ease her worries. "I do not worry about little things such as this. I just accept them as they are and continue forward. Though I do appreciate you giving me an identity. It would be rather awkward to liv eiwthout a name."

Mia sighed and sat back, taking her hand from him. He was difficult. Not like any of the men she had met. Most of them would have told her what they wanted by now. "Well, you can ask some questions if you like. I'm sure you have plenty."

He smiled at this. Finally they were getting somewhere. "Yes, I do. This world is very strange. Things move much quicker than I am accustomed to. Also, you live here by yourself? How is that possible? Do you not have a husband? Does your President allow women to live without being married?"

Mai laughed. "In this day and age, in America, woman have the same rights as men. My parents pay for my place so I can go to college here and get a degree so I can get a good job. In American, everyone is equal. No, I'm not married, I'm much too young for that," she explained.

He chuckled at this. "Leave it to her to make it to where women are the equals of men." He stopped as he looked her over. "You say that you are too young? Surely you are in the prime of your life. You must not have many years left of your life. Someone as beautiful as you should not waste away."

Some people play tennis, I erode the human soul.
