Lottie Claes

Lottie had been about to sneak into the city for supplies when it happened. Her footfalls were careful and calculated, the risk of each sound thought out intently before any action was made. The redhead had done this a hundred thousand times since her young childhood and sneaking around was almost second nature to her now. Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for everyone who lived in this mess some people still dared call a world.
"Damnit." Lottie whispered a curse through clenching teeth as a spotlight suddenly flashed on, ducking behind the old twisted metal of what used to be a car as to keep from being seen. At first the woman worried that somehow the guards had spotted her, causing her heart to begin thumping hard in her chest. Fortunately that didn't seem to be the case, but unfortunately, as long as the militia had the people who had been caught held hostage she couldn't make any progress - and sticking around here would be dangerous. If they found her she'd be lumped in with the captives, no doubt and she had no idea how bad that could be.
The more time passed the more Lottie worried that they would send out a perimeter search and find her. Her hands had grown slick with sweat and her heartbeat was a steady thump against her chest, rhythmic but violent heartbeats pounding in her ears.
As it turned out, Lottie had a right to be scared - but to her surprise, the militia was the least of her worries here.
"Oh, God. We got runners!" Lottie recognized that voice as one of the militia from before and slowly dared to turn her head to see what he was talking about. True to the deep-voiced man's word, a small group of runners were already headed towards them. Their sickly skin was enough to make Lottie's stomach flip, their guttural groans, somewhere between pained and feral, giving raise to the hair on her arms. It didn't seem to matter how often Lottie was faced with the terrible creatures, the shells of humans that these 'zombies' became. It was always terrifying.
It wasn't long before gunshots joined the mix of shouts and moans and, after a few seconds, Lottie saw her chance to get out of here. While the runners were preoccupied with the militia she would be able to get by them... hopefully.
Lottie had just moved from her cover, still ducking low to avoid being targeted when something made her turn to look at the group under the spotlight. For some reason, one person caught her attention - a young man with stubble and a buzz cut that was being attacked by one, two, three... four runners at once?
The redhead had no idea what compelled her to turn and run to help him, but before she could chide herself on going back for a complete stranger she had turned and began running towards him.
With a few quick movies Lottie had shoved her icepick through the heads of two different runners before they could so much as hear her coming, their half-decayed corpses falling to the ground in a heap. Between the two of them the others were felled fairly quickly, leaving them an opening.
"Come on!" Urging the man she'd just saved to follow her Lottie grabbed his wrist, beginning to tug him along. She had a safe place and it would fit him and his group - or whatever remnant of them made it out, anyways.
Andy Richards
╔
xxxxxxxxxxxxxI will protect my family. All of it.

A string of curses had been pouring through Andy's mind since the spotlight had captured them, militia surrounding them with weapons cocked and raised. Their smug expressions and smirks were irritating but it showed that they were confident; which would hopefully keep them from being too rach with the guns they held pointed towards them.
Seeing his family threatened at all was enough to worry Andy but he had been especially protective over Annie in the months past. He knew that sometimes his protectiveness was a bit overbearing for her but he couldn't help it. Pregnancy was a big deal in a world like this, especially considering the life they lead. It was dangerous and Andy couldn't bear the thought of losing either his wife or his unborn child. They were both precious to him and he would give anything in this world to keep them safe.
Considering this, the predicament they found themselves in was especially stressful. Their small group was outnumbered and any move could have lead to injury to any of them and that was probably at best.
Both Andy and Marcus were diligent in looking around for an opening. They seemed to have almost figured one out when a call sounded from one of the militia guards. It was a fearful call of words so often spoken but never willed that made Andy's blood run cold. Runners.
Immediately the paternal brunette's eyes darted to his wife. She was his main priority. Surely Marcus could keep himself safe. Of course, Annie could too but in her current state Andy didn;t want her pushing herself.
"Stay close to me." In all the chaos Andy managed to move closer to Annie, standing at her back with his gun now in hand, positioned to fire. They had always had each others back but now Andy felt it was time for him to truly be her protector - especially considering that baby inside of her.
The fight began swiftly, runners charging into the mass of militia, the poorly aimed gunshots that punctured their bodies, sending them jerking backwards only seeming to spur the infected's attack. There were a fair amount of them, a surprising amount for being this close to the city, but keeping close to the middle Andy and Annie managed to keep out of too much of the excitement, much to the former's pleasure.
With all the chaos spinning around them it was surprising that Andy even noticed Marcus being aided by a strange girl who he had known for a fact wasn't in the group of militia. At first he was glad for her presence as it seemed to help Marcus out but the moment she began trying to drag the man away Andy became a bit concerned. However, at this point she may have been their best bet - she looked like she knew where she was going.
"Come on." Andy spoke only as loudly as he had to for Annie to hear him before he urged he to follow after Marcus and the girl,
"We're right behind you!" Andy called to Marcus once they got closer, encouraging the younger man to keep walking.
Trustworthy or not, this girl might be able to get them out of here and right now that was their main priority. They could deal with the consequences of following this strange girl when they came.
