The second floor of the apartment building was silent that day, as every morning not much was
happening at that hour. Some have went to work or some would go to work early. A figure showed
up, holding a basket with her hands as she set it down on the first door steps she found, it was a
quick movement, a ring to the door and the shuffle down the stairs to get away. There was no
trace of the figure, the child sleeping inside the basket, tucked in with a small blue blanket as the
pacifier in his mouth to still him for the travel to his new home. Luka was barely a year old, his
mother had left him of unknown reasons. Whatever it was, she had grown tired or sick of him,
she didn't want the small bundle of joy others prayed for.

Luka had been dressed in something to keep his warm, a knitted white hat with long bunny ears,
a baby bottle was along as the letter taped to him with a safety needle. a pair of jeans and a hoodie
on, the shoes were of course there, but the boy never liked to wear them so much, he was still
trying to properly walk. As the cold touched his small hands harsher from being on the floor, his
eyes opened slightly as he found himself sniffling as the pacifier fell from his mouth, letting the first
cries fill the staircase as he wiggled his small fists around, tears streaming quickly down his face.

Salem didn't hear the doorbell. The damn thing only worked about half the time and the other half it gave off this mechanical whirring sound so he'd disconnected the damn thing. Nothing worked in this damn place. Nothing. The dish washer leaked constantly, the fridge only cooled half of one side and the freezer was an ice box of hell where s**t went to get burnt by the frigid cold. Which made absolutely no goddamned sense once so ever. He lived in a shithole. He doubted even homeless people wanted to stay here. It was that bad. But the rent was cheap and he had his crew patrolling the area so any cop that did happen to meander by was usually corrupt and either wanted money or what he was selling. It kept his a** out of prison and money in his pocket. He couldn't complain too much. Besides, with the money he and his... whatever the ******** you wanted to call the guy he lived with, were saving Salem knew he'd be able to get them a proper place eventually and maybe get himself situated in an honest life instead of running his own damned drug operation.

Idly, he scratched at his a** and stepped over the person passed out in the middle of the living room floor. He didn't ask questions anymore. It was probably some a*****e who had done more than he could handle and had crashed under the weight of whatever trip he'd been going on. Tch. He scratched his bum again, heading for the kitchen when he heard a faint sound coming from the direction of the door. It was quiet at first, barely noticeable and he thought he was just hearing things or still feeling the effects of last night's high when the sound got louder and soon it was the distinguished wail of a disgruntled child. "Goddammit, seriously? Christ sakes. Shut your ******** child up!" Salem slammed his fist on the wall that connected his apartment to the one next door, trying his best to ignore the wails. But they didn't stop. After a few minutes of listening to the screaming, he grabbed his baseball bat and threw the door to the apartment open. If the neighbors weren't going to shut that ******** thing up then he would.

The sound hit him like a tidal wave and he looked down, eyes widening when he realized that the kid was outside of his door and not someone else's. Great. A ding dong ditch baby. Sighing, he threw the bat back into the apartment and picked up the screaming kid. "Mom ditched ya, eh? 'salright little guy." Salem patted the childs back softly with one hand while he finagled the note out of the blanket with the other.

" ' I don't want this kid anymore, you take him. His name is Luka.'" Salem read the note out loud, quirking an eyebrow. Wow, and the mother of the year award goes to whoever that b***h was. Shrugging it off, he kicked the door closed with his foot and tossed the note in the trash. "Welcome to the shitbox, little one. Sebastian! Get your a** up. You're a father now, come take your child so I can cook." Salem trudged towards the kitchen, cooing and rubbing the back of the child to try and calm him down. This was seriously not the best place for a young kid.

Sebastian didn’t hate this life; of course there was place for more than this run down hell hole, but hey! It was better than having no place to take a shower and store your possessions. Not even he knew why he had given up on the life he had before, but it was his mind so sharp that he left his parents. But they didn’t like him anyways; he was not as bright as his siblings, not as talented as them and clearly not as important as them. He loved the life in luxury, but he was not in hell a nerd to read so many books! He wanted to have fun, he was obsessed with dancing, that was true and that was how he had ended to hate his parents. ‘Dancing is for girls. Stop doing that. Be a man and become a lawyer.’ Like Hell would he be one of those idiots. He had tried his best to last, but it was not working at all. With him out, well….he can’t remember how he met Salem, maybe in a club? Maybe he got high and just realized later who the dealer was of happiness. However, that didn’t matter; here he was, living his life! Um…not really a good life, but for the moment it would last.

Sebastian had been out until late, even if he did dance and strip for men and women, he did of course have paid sex, why? It raked extra money and if he was drunk enough, he would not care who his partner in crime truly was. He should really find a more…honest job soon. But for now this was a fun one! His sleep of course was disrupted, not by the cries, those didn’t really bother him, he got used to loud unknown noise so any thief could walk in his room and he would not wake up a bit. But Salem’s voice…that was another story. As he jumped up, the words registered slow in his mind as he stumbled over the covers and fished from the floor a pair of his pajama pants. As he finally managed to lift himself up, he slipped the pinkish pants over his hips, tying them slightly as they still hung loose on his hips.

As he reached the door, he finally realized what the man said and he blinked. “Did the stork come?” he asked as he pushed his hair back, walking out of his bedroom and towards Salem to eye the tiny beast that brought so much terror for many young people. “But if I am the daddy, you are his mother?” he asked as he grabbed the baby and lifted it up from under his arms, looking over his face as he hummed. “Salem, what do babies eat? Last time I saw something to babies the bird threw up in their mouth….do we have to do that too?!” he asked shocked as he moved to the kitchen, sitting down onto the chair as he rested the child against his chest and onto his lap.

The child sobbed as the minutes passed, his face red as he sulked away alone in the staircase. But the sight of a man had his eyes open slightly and been picked up. He was still crying as his small hands clung to Salem, still unsure of the strength he would pinch him as he was held. But with the warmth against his body, he nuzzled as the tears slowly fell and he was calming down. He was happy as long as he wasn’t cold, for now the man’s body was keeping him warm but if he grew hungry, well that would be another fit of cries. He had not stayed long against Salem as he was picked up by another man, he was lifting him up which made Luka gasp and let a soft fit of giggles as he watched Sebastian come close to him and eyed him back with curiosity. As he was finally set on the others lap, he grabbed the pacifier with his hands, since it was attached to his shirt, it was not getting lost and with a hard time got it into his mouth, suckling away at it.
