Dareth looked over the city and smiled to himself. He had just recently purchased this manor in the budding place completely open for claiming. Play his cards right, and he would soon be the master vampire of the city. Over the centuries, he had waited and watched looking for a place where he alone would rule. Now, Dareth had found the city he wished for himself. Exiting the balcony, Dareth walked down the stairs. The sun had set and he wished to walk the city streets himself.

Stressed out and tired from her day, Marie was finally on her way home. Today had been a deadline day, and her editor had needed her to stay extra hours to finish up the design. Honestly, Marie just wanted to get to the apartment, relax for a little while and then maybe go out and have some fun- something the university's magazine designer hadn't had much time for these last couple of days. But the semester was over, and it seemed Maria would finally have a week or two to herself. "I'm home- I'll be in my room if you need me!" Marie yelled in case her sister was home. With that, she went to her room and collapsed on the bed for a few moments.

Nikolas

Finally, a city that he could call his own. For many a centuries he had waited patiently for a city like this to spring up. Nikolas looked on at the glittering lights of the city from his new, and quite large home. In his hand the man swirled around a deep red liquid around in a wine glass. No, it wasn't blood, it was a delicious red wine that he had opened to celebrate such and occasion. It wasn't everyday that one got to look out over a city and know that it would soon be theirs and theirs alone. With a small chuckle, the vampire finished his wine and exited his home. He wanted to enjoy his new city and see just how lively it was.

Carmen

After a long day of classes and running around the city, it was always good to go home and relax. Cuddling up in bed watching a movie, reading a book, or taking a nap was always good too… well except if you were Carmen. Even after a long day of school and miscellaneous errands, Carmen still had energy to spare. With headphones on her head and an ipod turned all the way up, the young college student jumped around her room singing along with the music. "Dance hard, laugh hard. Turn the music up now! Party like a rockstar, can I get what now? I swear I'll do anything that I have to. Till I forget about you!" Sure the song was from a show on the disney channel, but what could she say, it had a good beat and was the kind of hype that she liked in a song.

As the song came to an end, Carmen paused when she heard Marie call out to her. "Hey Marie, welcome home!" She called from her room before taking off her head phones and walking to her sisters room. "Hey, I know it's my turn to cook, but I really don't feel like it. Can we just go out to eat or something? I'll let you pick where we go." Carmen smiled at her sister. This was probably a bad time to drop this on her… oh well.

Dareth:

In a good mood, Dareth smiled to himself as he enjoyed going through the city. Various lights and stands drew his eye and he knew that he would enjoy exploring each and every corner of the city until he knew it better then anyone else. He looked through the various businesses wondering where he should start investing. These humans thought they were so different from those in his original time period- if only they knew. An investor, living off the work of the businesses he owned wasn't very different from a lord living off the laboring peasants. But he did suppose less people died from disease and such.

He supposed that what he could really use was a good meal and a bit of entertainment. Dareth supposed he'd need to keep his eye out for a good opportunity.

Marie:

With a sigh, Marie sat up and looked at her sister. "I guess my saying I just got home wouldn't do much." She looked out the window thinking for a moment of where she would like to go. "I guess we can. But Carmen, we can't be doing this every time you don't feel like cooking- our budget won't allow for it. But if we're going to go out, we might as well have a nice time. How about that new Italian place? Its right across the street from my part time and it seems like a lot of fun."

While a scholarship covered most of Marie's school related expenses, she did waitress part time in order to pay her share of the cost of living. She didn't mind living with her sister, but the less she had to deal with her parents, the better- after the divorce, Marie wanted nothing to do with either of them, even taking their money. She stretched and got up. "So how about it?"

Nikolas

Soon Nikolas found himself in the heart of the city. Neon lights flashed everywhere as people hustled up and down the streets. Such a lively city, he loved it. So many subjects for him to rule over. Soon he would take this city by storm, and no one would see it coming until it was too late to stop. He knew right where to start too. It may be a brutal, but if it worked then he wouldn't complain. First he would start off getting the 'underground' on his side. Soon they would 'convince' others to follow his lead and then it would just be a matter of time until the city was in the palm of his hand. The idea made him giddy. A sinister smile came to his lips. Yes, he would soon put his plan into action, but first there was something else that he needed satisfied. His hunger. Yes, he supposed that something like that would be important. Now if he could only find a suitable lady that would be lucky enough to be his next meal...

Carmen

"Sorry. I just haven't eaten all day, so needless to say, I'm pretty hungry." Carmen sighed and rolled her neck from side to side, carefully working out the kinks. "I know, I know. I'll try to put in for some overtime at work or something… So don't worry. We'll be fine." Life wasn't easy for the two of them. Since the divorce of their parents, both girls had grown distant form them, Marie more so then herself. After they had moved out and on their own both girls had gone out to get jobs to help pay for things. Marie had her job and Carmen worked at a quaint little book shop.

"Sounds good to me. It's been a while since we had something like that." She said with a smile as she went off to get her purse from her bedroom and then waited for Marie to come out and lead the way.

Marie:

Marie grabbed her purse and met her sister by the door and tapped her playfully on the forehead. "Don't worry about it alright? About the overtime that is. We've been good all month and we deserve a little treat anyway." Marie smiled. She couldn't help it- without their parents there, Marie felt someone should be able to spoil her sister a little bit.

Through the town, Marie led the way enjoying tha walk and the fresh air. It was nice not being in a hurry. She attempted to make small talk with her sister, but honestly wasn't sure what to say. "There it is, right across the street."

Dareth:

His good mood spoiled very quickly- he could smell it in the air: another vampire. So, he hadn't been the only one to spot this deliscious city for the taking. His walk immidiately became more aggresive. Dareth would need to feed from a human soon. Feeding would mark the beginning of his territory as that human would immidiately become his and it would give him strength to defeat an opponent.

Once more, Dareth's lips curled. There, about to cross the street were two young woman who appeared ideal candidates. He spotted the restaurant into which they were headed and made sure to get there first. He had a word with the manager too- when the girls walked in, they would be seated at his table.

Nikolas

Oh, this city just kept getting better and better. A strong scent on the wind was what had gotten the man excited. There was another vampire in the city! Yes there was nothing like the thrill of crushing an opponent into the dust. However, this did mean that he would have to get to work a bit sooner then expected…

[Sorry that it's short, but I was wondering if I should have Nikolas enter the restaurant that they are at… i don't know D: ]

Carmen

"Pffff. You need to make up your mind if we're in trouble or not then!" Carmen pouted playfully and puffed out her cheeks with air for a moment before she let out a giggle and closed the door, following her sister out of the apartment complex.

It was times like these that Carmen remembered why she didn't go out in the city to walk around anymore. As they walked mannequins wearing the most adorable clothing called out to her to buy them. It was always a temptation that was hard to resist, but new clothes just weren't in the budget this week. "Ah, they're calling to me Marie.. 'buy me! buy me!' they say." She said with a smile before looking across the street at the restaurant that Marie was pointing to. "Ah, looks nice. It better be worth the money though or they will soon not like me."

((It's up to you, really. If he goes in, it could be a way of them directly challenging one another, or you can take a different route maybe secretly observing. I don't know- it's totally up to you))

Marie:

Marie laughed, shaking her head at her sister's comments. Still, she was the sort who wished she could afford to take her sister on a shopping spree. Anyway, it was cold and Marie wanted to be in the warmth of the restaurant. As they walked in, she stared at the hostess. Who on earth would be expecting and requesting that she and her sister join their table? They had only just decided to come. Out of curiosity, Marie followed as the hostess led them to a table with a good looking man who looked about 5-6 years older then she and her sister.

Dareth:

Dareth smiled wamly at the two girls trying all the while not to appear as a predator. "Please take a seat. It would be my pleasure to treat a pair of lovely young women to a meal." He motioned to the other side of the booth for the pair to sit as to face him. "My name is Dareth and it is a pleasure to make your aquaintance." Dareth studied them as on of the girls (Marie) turned to the other as if questioning whether she would like to go with this or not. This particular girl being spoken to, caught Dareth's eye. He immidiately picked a favorite. He let his eyes meet this one and he smiled more. "Well?"

Nikolas

Nikolas would waste no time now. Soon he found himself in the back alleys of the city. His bright blue eyes seemed to be searching for something, and moments later he found what he was looking for. Back in a darker part of an alley way was a group of thugs. He wouldn't go into detail, but within minutes of first approaching them, they were all now terrified of him and pledged their loyalty to him beside the bloodless body of one of their members that had dared to try and challenge him.

The first step of his plan was then put into motion. Now with grunts behind him, he could move on to the higher- ranking people in the city. He sent his new minions out to find where a few select individuals were and to dispose of the body of their once friend. Of course he wouldn't be seen with these people in public. They were mere grunts and had no impact on anyone important.

With that now out of the way, Nikolas headed in the direction where the scent from the other vampire was coming from. Soon he found himself in front of an Italian restaurant. At least this vampire had taste. Walking inside, his eyes traveled around until they met the source. The vampire he had been smelling now had a face, and he was with two very lovely women. One however caught his eye, she was sitting in the outer part of the booth. (Marie) Interesting. He wondered how the other vampire would take his presence. Nikolas allowed the hostess to seat him, however his seat had a perfect view of his target.

Carmen

Ah, just her luck. She would be put on the spot at a time like this. Something about this didn't feel right with her… maybe it was the fact that someone requested their presence before they had even arrived. Although at least it was an attractive man instead of a scary older one that had sweat dripping off of his neck-roll. Carmen had been looking forward to having dinner with her sister, but at an opportunity to just sit with some guy and have him pay for dinner that they really couldn't afford was rather hard to pass up. Looking over at her sister, she put on a reassuring smile and nodded before looking back over to the man that had introduced himself. "Um, thank you. My name is Rosalie, this is my sister Marie." Sliding into the booth, she took the seat nearest the wall.

"If you don't mind me asking, how did you know that we were going to be here?"

Dareth:

Stiffening, Dareth sensed the presence of the other vampire and immidiately hid this reaction. He studied him for a moment casually as the hostess took him to a seat. So the other vamp wanted to challenge him immidiately? Well, he could try. Dareth offered a smile to the two young women. "I think I must confess something," he spoke. Amusement for her question glittered in his eyes.

"It just so happens that I was walking by the restaurant when I nooticed to attractive young women heading towards it. On an impulsive sort of impulse, I came in reserved a table and left instructions for you to be brought to me." He wondered how much it would take to convince them to go home with him. He supposed since neither had ever served as a vampire's refreshment, that he'd be able to influence their will through his own powers. Once he had tasted them, another vampire's magic would have no effect on them while his would effect them twice as effectively.

That's what it all came down to: control. These two girls may not be much in the scope of the whole city, but they would mark the beginning of his claim on the territory. If the other vampire mangaged to snatch the pair away and drink of them first, he'd have effectively shown Dareth just who is boss. But if he failed and Dareth took the two, Dareth would be showing mastery. This was the beginning of their first 'match' and like most beginnings it may set the tone for the rest of the fight for the city.

Marie:

Marie was pretty confident she agreed with her sister on this- a good looking guy offering them a free meal was too good a chance to pass up. She'd been planning on doing extra hours to pay for it so her sister wouldn't have to, but this would save her the trouble. Still both the man and his story seemed suspiscious to her. Marie planned to make excuses to leave as soon as she and her sister had eaten. Dareth though seemed very interested in another good looking man who walked in. She couldn't help but wonder if it was just coincidence, if the two were up to something together, or if they were rivals of some kind.

Nikolas

Nikolas grinned at the vampire when he noticed him staring. Bringing up one hand, he wiggled his fingers in a taunting greeting. This would be rather interesting to watch. Both girls had looked over at him because the other man was. It was also clear that both girls were a tad uncomfortable around him. He silently wondered how long they would stay until they would excuse themselves and just take off from there without even a good-bye. Oh how wonderful that would be, to watch your opponent get shot down by not one, but two girls, and even after he had been the one to feed them? Oh that would almost be one of the best things he had ever witnessed.

The soft voice of the waitress pulled him from his eager thoughts. He ordered a simple glass of wine and a steak as bloody as they come. Of course he had already fed today, but when in Rome…

As he waited, his eyes would occasionally lock on the girls, then to just Marie. He knew what would now ensue tonight. A game for control and dominance as old as time. Just as animals did in the wild, vampires did to stake their claims. Obviously he couldn't let that happen. Somehow he would have to get to the girls before him, or at least one of them. If it was a draw then that would just lead to more fun battles like this. A small shiver ran up his spine at the thought as a grin came to his lips. This indeed was an interesting city.

Carmen

"Oh… how… bold of you." Carmen tried to chose her words carefully. The guy was buying them dinner, and chances were that as soon as they had finished Marie would come up with an ingenious plan to excuse them and they would be taking off with bellies and wallets full. Her eyes quickly glanced over in the direction of the other man that Dareth had been watching. Interesting. Of course her over active imagination came to conclusions that would happen in a movie; like the man turning out to be his partner in crime and once Dareth walked them out after dinner they would jump them in the alley or something… but then again that was just her imagination… she read too many books.

Dareth:

DAreth chuckled, enjoying how Rosalie seemed to respond to everything he said out loud. He would not allow the other vampire to have them. He thought possessively. He ordered for himself something minor and allowed the girls to order whatever they liked. He took the liberty of ordering them all some wine.

"So tell me about yourselves," He probed. The more he knew the easier it would be to entrance them into doing what he wanted. "I myself am a business man." He was trying to ease their doubts as much as possible. After seeing them note the other vampire, he had resolved not to look in that direction again. The pest.

Marie:

Marie simply watched the man interact with her sister. Perhaps it was a little cold, but she wasn't sure she was comfortable with this any longer. When the food arrived she focused on that. She wasn't all that great at social situations anyway and didn't hesitate to try and get out of this the moment both she and her sister had stopped eathing. "I'm sorry, I'm not feeling well. I think we should be going.

Dareth:

Dareth frowned at Marie, but nodded. "I will escort you both home." He insisted. Marie seemed almost hostile, so he put his efforts into using his powers to convince the other sister that he could escort them.

Nikolas

Oh, this was almost too painful to watch. The girls were as stiff as boards, neither relinquishing the information that the vampire was seeking from them. Soon the time came where the girl make an excuse to go home. Let's see how this plays out. He thought to himself with a smirk as he sipped his wine. As soon as the girls left he would follow soon behind them and then the real fight would begin. He knew the blonde wouldn't be giving up the girls so easily...

Carmen

As dinner progressed Carmen could feel the tension growing out in all different directions. It was unnerving to feel like you were in the middle of it. With his questions, Carmen had been very vague about her answers, giving little to no detail about her personal life. The last thing she wanted was for both of them to have a stalker that knew their whole schedule and where they worked, etc.

During dinner, Carmen had avoided drinking any wine. She wasn't stupid enough to let herself get intoxicated in a situation like this.

Once dinner was through Carmen's thoughts had been right. Marie had made an excuse to leave, but this man thought that he would be escorting them back home. Her mind instantly said no, but a little nagging in the back of her mind said that it was alright. Ugh, she was so confused. Looking over at Marie, she hoped that she would stick to her guns and make another excuse.

Dareth sighed as Marie once more gave excuses. "It's fine, really. You've been quite kind and we wouldn't want to impose on you any longer." She smiled politely. Able to smell a lie, he knew they weren't being honest with him- but he could hardly tell them he knew it. Maybe it was a cultural thing- in his day young women would never refuse an escort. It was after all for their safety. That, however gave him an idea.

"My dears, I had no intention of frightening or intimidating you." He started. "And I beg your pardon if I was perhaps too forward in my persuit. However, it is getting late and you, Marie, are not feeling well. It would put my mind at rest if I could escort you at least most of the way." This next idea almost made him smirk. Dareth looked over to where the other vampire was and gave the girls a serious look. "I fear the streets tonight may not be safe." He had noticed the other vampire eyeing his own prey, and it gave Dareth pleasure to use that against his opponent. He used his powers to make them more inclined to his persuasion.

Marie looked at him now more uncertain. Could it be that this man knew something about the other man? It had been creepy the way the other wasn't even at their table and yet kept looking at her and her sister. "Perhaps if we stuck to major streets and you took us only part of the way?" She moved towards compromise. Even if he knew the area, there were plenty of apartment complexes there and their apartment complex had many others besides their own. So he wouldn't know quite where they lived.

HE rose a brow. "Are you certain you wish to walk? I could have us driven there? If you are feeling bad..." Dareth suggested. Though he

"Oh no, we're certain. Besides, I think the fresh air and walk will do me good." She smiled politely. Dareth realized it probably would get him no further to argue the point. He left a hundred dollar bill that would be more then enough for everything and rose to help the women up. Getting them to his manor would take more persuasion, but at least he'd be 'escorting' them.
