xxxxxx- STORY ~
Our story is set in Bassfield, Mississippi, the US of A. Jane Watson has been going to Bassfield High School since she was a freshman. And now, in her final year at Bassfield, her class has an addition to their number - Damien Demetri. At first glance, Damien looks like a regular seventeen year old. When you look closer.. His eye colour never stays the same, his mood swings are really quite unexpected and he has skin so pale, it's hard to believe any blood runs through his veins.
Aha. That's what everyone doesn't know. Damien is a vampire. Not sharp fanged, blood hungry creatures that most vampires are labeled, but a modern vampire settled among human beings. Sure, the smell of blood and the sound of it pumping through people's bodies is hard to ignore but this is what many years of practice has done to the Demetri family.
Now, will they settle peacefully in Bassfield, undisturbed? Or will their kind come after them? Will Damien make any friends? Or will he forever be knows as the pale, quiet senior? We'll just have to see.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxJane ✖ Marie ✖ Watsonxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"Slow down, the world isn't watching us break down, it's safe to say we're alone now.."
- Jane had woke up, this morning like so many others before. She got up, got ready, showered and did her morning routine. All so she could go to boring school and be pestered by friends. Jane wasn't anti-social, she just liked to keep her space from people. At the breakfast table, her mother started her concerned parent thing again.
"Janie, why don't you bring one of your friends over, and we'll have a nice dinner tonight." her mother said as she was making two plates of bacon, eggs, and toast for the two of them.
Jane sighed, pursing her lips. "Actually, mom. Me and Savannah are going to the library after school to study for our history reports, and after that I'm gonna have to write it all up, so I'll be pretty busy. Maybe some other day." Jane lied, but her mother seemed pleased.
"Oh, right, maybe another day then. Eat up." her mom said, placing a plate in front of her.
Jane started eating, quietly as she sat there. She didn't like to talk at the breakfast table. There was never anything to talk about. Her mom would try to start silly conversations and get gossip from school, but Jane never knew any. Not really. The best she could do is 'Erik got a really bad haircut from his mom yesterday' or 'Rachel's dog died.' Stuff that was extremely obvious, and not much of a secret, either. Jane had friends, sure. She had plenty. she'd been going to school in this town since she was 9, but she didn't like talking to them much. Even her best friend didn't really know much about her.
She'd go hang out with the girls, but for some reason she was always a little different. She wouldn't share gossip about herself, or talk about her experiences with boys, because she didn't really have any, not yet. That was another thing, she never really dated anyone. It's not that she couldn't get anyone, she just never really got into the whole dating scene, afraid she'd be too awkward and scare the guy off. So, in fear of screwing things up, she hadn't really done anything like that.
So, as she finished her breakfast, and said bye to her mom, she grabbed her keys off the hook, and went outside to her old beat up white car. She got inside, and started the ignition, throwing her backpack and umbrella in the back seat. It was rainy and cold outside, so she was wearing a blue T shirt, and a brown jacket and a pair of blue jeans. She was never one to over dress. As she pulled up to the school, already her friends were waving, and shouting things she couldn't even hear.
Grudgingly, she reached back and grabbed her umbrella and backpack, opening the door, and then the umbrella as she got out of the car. Her friend Samantha, and her other friend Cody both ran up, neither of them had umbrella's.
"Janie!" Cody said as he threw his arms around her. He obviously had a bit of a crush on her, not that he made it obvious.. "You're going friday, right? It's going to be an awesome party, I promise! You won't wanna miss it!" Cody said as he let go of her.
Jane faked a smile, and shrugged her shoulders in response. "I'm not sure, I might go, but I don't know what's going on that day yet. I think I have plans." she lied, causing him to pout a bit.
"You just gotta come, okay!" Cody said, then ran off to the school. Jane sighed, then looked to Samantha, one of her more quiet and enjoyable friends. Jane moved her umbrella over Samantha, and started walking.
"Man, this rain is a b***h, aint it?" Jane mused, and Samantha nodded.
"Yeah, a perfect day to forget my umbrella, let me tell you." Samantha said with a sigh.
Jane smiled and shrugged. "No need to worry, I've got you covered." Jane said with a laugh. The two of them walked into the entrance way of the building and sat down on a bench, Samantha rang out her hair, while Jane put her cell phone on silence. Once she was sure it was turned down, Jane sat back with a huff. "So, are you going to that thing on Friday?" Jane asked Samantha.
Samantha shrugged "I'm not sure, I might. But I was thinking of skipping out." Samantha said honestly, causing Jane to laugh a little and nod.
"Me too, not my kind of place, ya know?" she said, and Samantha laughed along with her. They made small talk for a little longer, until Samantha said she was going to go find her other friend. Jane on the other hand was perfectly fine sitting there alone.

__________Unlike other households which have three teenage boys getting ready for their first day at their new school, the Demetri household was quiet that morning. Nothing unusual for this family of four, though, there just simply wasn’t anything to shout about. Vampires didn’t need to sleep, so Mr. Demetri was saved the trouble of going from room to room and waking his boys up. Vampires didn’t need to eat, so breakfast wasn’t an issue. Vampires looked good without even trying, so making sure that trousers were pressed and shirts weren’t crinkled was the last of their worries. More over, the Demetri household consisted of only four men – Mr. Demetri and his three sons – so there wasn’t an annoying woman fussing around and nagging at them to clean up after themselves. The only issue was feeding. Oh yeah, vampires had to feed, but not on solid food like humans do. Blood, of course, is what I’m talking about. But not human blood either, no. The Demetri family considered themselves ‘vegetarian vampires’ because they lived off animal blood.
__________Fortunately, that morning, hunting for a bear to feed off hadn’t been that time consuming and the four men had come home satisfied and full, which of course put them in a good mood and made their eyes shine. “Go get ready boys,” said Mr. Demetri, clapping his oldest, Chace, on the shoulder. Chace and Nathan, were in college, while Damien was a senior at high school. Of course, it wasn’t like education mattered to them, and all three of them had multiples of high school and college certificates but to appear normal, Mr. Demetri had insisted that they each join an institute of their choice. Damien, already having about three different degrees, decided that he’d return to high school and the other two entered themselves into a local college. Chace, Nathan and Damien weren’t twenty - one, nineteen and seventeen as everyone in Bassfield thought they were – they were much, much older.
__________“I’m driving!” shouted Nathan as he ran up the stairs and headed to his bedroom. “Sure,” answered Chace quietly, making a face behind his brother’s back, “Like you’re the only one with a car.” Damien smirked, looking at their father, already knowing the words that were going to come out of his mouth. “Now, now, boys.. One car, and not the Mercedes.” Nathan groaned and banged his room door shut. Sometimes Damien wondered how it was possible to be ninety - two (and in vampire years, that was young) and still care about the car you drive. George Demetri, their father, had laid down a number of rules for them when they had moved to Bassfield a couple of weeks ago. To seem in place and human - like, the boys couldn’t show off too much (George was a successful architect, which meant money was never a problem), let slip to anyone what they really were, bring friends home or ever attack a human. Of course, the last one was probably the most important. George had worked hard to turn himself into what he was, but when he had come across Chace a few years later, he felt that turning him into a vampire was the only thing that could save the young man from dying from leukemia. It had been hard for Chace for several years to control his thirst, and it wasn’t easy for Nathan or Damien either, but now, many years later, the understanding was established. They weren’t the only vampires who practiced this kind of living but their kind preferred to stay within their group and not mingle.
__________George had found Damien unconscious in the middle of a road on a dark, misty night. He was bleeding, had a few broken limbs and his car was only good for scrap metal. George had decided to turn him into a vampire as well. George believed that no human should be turned unless it was a choice between being a vampire and dying. So technically, Chace, Nathan and Damien weren’t George’s kids but he had taken care of them after they had transformed and treated them as he would his own children. It made sense why they didn’t have a mother but of course, the story they told Bassfield was that Lily Demetri had died of cancer several years ago.
__________Most vampires had some sort of paranormal power, some talent they had when they were still human which was multiplied to the extreme. Damien, for instance, could read minds and put thoughts into people’s heads. He assumed that when he was still human, he could guess correctly what people were thinking and was good at persuading people.
→ ● ←
__________“Dad, we’re heading out!” shouted Chace, throwing the keys to one of the many cars the Demetri men shared in the air and catching it swiftly in his palm. George shouted back an okay and Damien shut the door after them, his own car’s keys in his hand. “How come you get to take one of the more showy cars?” asked Nathan, falling behind and walking alongside Damien. “First, this baby is mine,” answered Damien, tapping the hood of his BMV E46. “And second, I don’t argue about who should drive like a sixteen year old would.” “And third, you don’t talk at all? And I mean, at all?” answered back Nathan, avoiding a punch from Damien. “Shut up,” said Damien laughing. Yep, Damien was the strong, silent type. And when I say silent, I mean extremely silent. Chace shouted for Nathan and he rushed off to their Honda. Damien shook his head and got inside his own car, starting up the engine.
→ ● ←
__________About fifteen minutes later, Damien drove into the parking lot of Bassfield High. He stayed inside his car and scanned the school grounds for a while, trying to get used to the voices inside his head. Crazy, hormonal teenagers. Ashley was planning on doing what with who? Damien shook his head and stepped out of the car after turning off the engine, his bag hanging from a strap on his left shoulder. He was dressed in a pair of gray jeans and a black jacket over a white, long sleeved tee. His short, wavy hair was the same as always – held into place with some gel. Damien walked into the school grounds, going over the ritual of putting thoughts into people's heads, as he always did at a new place. ‘I’m gorgeous but you know I’m out of your league,’ he thought, looking at a blonde sophomore. ‘And you need to concentrate on your studies this year.’ That was a slightly overweight senior. ‘And you guys need to stay out of detention. So leave me the ******** alone.’ Obviously, the big bullies – jocks. Damien continued doing this until he was sure that not one single person in his new school was interested in him. Pretty sad, really, the girls were kind of cute, but oh well, it wasn't like he had a choice. Damien looked around for an empty bench so that he could sit and check out what classes he had that day but they were all full, some with couples who looked as if they were trying to smooth each other's lips off and some with bunches of noisy females. Only one was different. In a corner, a blonde haired girl was sitting alone quietly. Damien found it weird that she didn't have anyone around her. She didn't even have her cellphone out! Slowly, Damien filtered out all the other voices in his head as he looked at the girl. Nothing. ‘What? She isn’t even thinking about anything?’ Damien tried again, putting more focus into it this time. Still nothing. Looking around and making sure that no one was watching him, the boy walked down to the bench and sat on the other end of it. He pretended to play around with his cellphone for a few minutes before looking up at her. Still nothing. “Hey,” he said finally, forcing his lips into a small smile, “I’m Damien Demetri, senior. Just moved here a couple of weeks ago.” And that was probably the most he had ever said to someone out of his family. Good for you, Damien.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxJane ✖ Marie ✖ Watsonxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"Slow down, the world isn't watching us break down, it's safe to say we're alone now.."
- Jane had just been sitting there, minding her own business and enjoying the rain from inside. She rather enjoyed the rain, as long as she wasn't in it. She let out a dreamy sigh, and just as she did, someone joined her on her bench. Usually this would make her uncomfortable, but she'd never leave in fear that the person who had sat down would take it personally. But, when she glanced over at the one who'd joined her, she was taken aback. He was really handsome, like, supermodel handsome.
And then, he introduced himself as being new, and she smiled. She was thinking how peculiar that the new kid was introducing himself, when usually it's the other way around. But, she didn't want to be rude. "Jane Watson, you can call me Jane, or Janie, whatever you prefer." she said, giving him a kind smile.
She didn't seem it, but inside, she was really freaking out, and nervous. Most guys new she was pretty much a dead end girl, you never really got anywhere with her. And this guy was sure to become popular fast, and soon he would know.
"So, just moved here? Enjoying the rain?" she asked jokingly, and out of the corner of her eye, she could see two of her friends talking. No, gossiping, for sure. Most likely about her talking to this guy who was probably way out of her league. "Where'd you move from?" she finally asked him. She was no good at making conversation, but with a new kid, it wasn't so hard.
She didn't know every aspect of his life like some of her friends, there was more then just the weather to talk about. She could probably talk to him more then she'd talked to anyone in a while. But, classes would be starting soon, there was no time for endless chatting.
"Oh, if you need any help with finding classes or anything, I could help you. I've gone here since I was nine, so I know the school pretty well." she offered with a smile. In her mind, this was going pretty well. And apparently her friends thought so too. Since they were watching, and even waving every time she glanced at them.
Jane couldn't help but cringe at them, they were really getting on her nerves now. Trying to be inconspicuous, but at the same time make a point, she waved her friends off with one hand, making a face that looked very displeased in their direction, then turned back to Damien with a smile. "My friends are a little...immature." she said, heaving a sigh.
When she glanced at the clock on the wall, she realized how late it was getting. "Oh, I have to get to my locker before the bell rings." she said, then stood up. "It was nice meeting you, Damien." she said with a smile, before speed-walking towards her locker. She only had a matter of seconds before the bell would ring.
When she got to her locker, she did her combination quickly, so quick she got it wrong and had to do it over. So when she finally got it open, she set her backpack on the ground, and pulled three books out of it, and shove them in her locker.
Ding, ding, ding
The bell rang, and she slammed the locker shut, and turned the knob. She then set off for her first class, chemistry, and made it there a moment or two early. She sat down at her table, and set her bag on the floor beside her.
She rested her arms on the table, and watched the front of the class boredly. She was never excited for school anymore. And, in all honesty, she just wanted it to be over. All the drama that came along with being in highschool so wasn't worth it.

__________‘Handsome.. Supermodel.’ Damien closed his eyes, feeling a sharp pain shooting across his forehead. It was like a bad phone line – he could hear her thoughts, but not every single one of them. And again.. ‘Peculiar.. New kid.’ Damien forced himself to snap out of it, no longer able to bear the pain. "Jane Watson, you can call me Jane, or Janie, whatever you prefer." Damien smiled. Usually, when people spoke at a normal volume, vampires still found it loud because their ears were very sensitive and could pick up sounds from miles away. But when this girl talked, Damien just felt at ease. Her voice wasn’t loud at all to his ears. It was pretty comforting, actually. And although Damien hadn’t admitted it to himself before, he did now – he had been sort of nervous about moving to Bassfield. Their high school was pretty small and everyone knew each other. It didn’t seem like a place where secrets could be kept.
__________“Jane is fine,” he replied, smiling again and leaning back on the bench. It was still raining but not hard enough to make anyone feel uncomfortable. Damien assumed that this was normal weather for Bassfield. He’d just have to get used to wearing a jacket. Not that he felt the cold, or anything. It was for formality’s sake. Damien looked up when he heard her voice again and smirked. “Oh yeah, yeah sure, the rain’s just.. awesome. Yeah.” ‘Three ‘yeah’s? Really, man?’ Damien looked up again when she spoke. “Oh, umm..” And he answered with the first state that popped into his head. “Minnesota.”
__________Jane felt silent for a moment and Damien couldn’t help but sneak into her head. ‘More than just the weather.. Classes would be starting soon.. Endless chatting.’ This was weird. He could hear everyone and any one’s thoughts. Why not Jane Watson's? Damien saw her glancing at a group of people a couple of metres away and one of them waved at her. He assumed that they were her friends. He turned his attention on the female that was waving most enthusiastically. ‘Way to go, Janie! Score!’ Damien rolled his eyes and nodded at Jane’s comment. “Yeah,” he said, still looking at the female. How come he could read her mind but not Jane’s?
__________"Oh, I have to get to my locker before the bell rings." “Oh, yeah, of course,” said Damien, realising that he was keeping her. And right at that moment, Damien felt a gust of wind behind him. He saw people lifting their heads up high to feel the cool wind blowing in their face. He saw Jane’s hair starting to float upwards and immediately held his breath. It wouldn’t do to lost control right at that moment. He had ignored the scent of thousands of hearts pumping blood throughout their owners’ bodies.. He couldn’t let all his effort go to waste now. “I’ll see you later, Jane,” he said quickly, his hand involuntarily reaching out and squeezing hers lightly. Warm. It had been a while since he had been close to a human.
→ time skip to the last lesson ←
__________Damien sighed as the bell finally rang and signaled the end of his Biology class. God, school was a drag. Many would say that it would be easier for Damien, considering the fact that he had repeated high school three times. But that was just it. He had repeated high school three times. It was annoying, frustrating and boring. It was annoying that teachers forced you to listen to what you already knew. It was frustrating to be given the same assignments over and over again. It was boring to do the same exercises in class and ask yourself why it felt like frickin’ déjà vu. Damien stopped in the locker hall and leaned against a wall, pulling out his schedule from his bag to check what he had next – English. So far, that morning, he hadn’t had any classes with Jane. A part of him was disappointed while another part was surprisingly relieved. Damien was curious as to why he couldn’t completely hear Jane’s thoughts. It had never happened before, why now? And the other part of him told him that maybe it was because he didn’t want to hear them, that he was better off not knowing what was going on in her head. Damien shook his head and started heading for his next class.
__________Walking into the class, Damien’s eyes searched for an empty seat and he found one right at the back, beside a window. ‘Perfect.’ Settling down, Damien pulled out a few stray sheets of paper and started doodling as he still had a few more minutes to kill before class started. He felt eyes piercing into him like daggers, no doubt wondering who he was. He heard a few people at the back thinking about where he was from. Damien felt too darn lazy to make people leave him alone so he just tried to ignore it all. But then.. “Umm, hey! You’re the new guy, aren’t you?” Damien winced at the high pitched voice behind him and looked up at its owner. Blonde, pink outfit, twirling her curls with perfectly manicured fingers – definitely a cheerleader. “Uhh.. Yeah,” answered Damien, moving his head back. He didn’t like this girl. He couldn’t explain why but he just didn’t like her. She smelt weird, in vampire sense. Myths say that vampires have good instincts ; the smell of a certain individual could tell them what that person was like. And Damien didn't like what he was smelling on this chick. ‘Leave me alone.’ “Umm, I’ll talk to you later,” said the girl suddenly, puzzled, turning away. Damien snickered. “Doubt it.”

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxJane ✖ Marie ✖ Watsonxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"Slow down, the world isn't watching us break down, it's safe to say we're alone now.."
- Jane actually didn't mind this guy being around. He wasn't hyper and obsessive like Cody, he wasn't loud and annoying like most of her friends. He was quiet and calm, just like her. Perfect. But, she'd had to leave before she had the chance to talk to him any longer. This was all stuff she'd gathered from the few minutes she'd talked to him. And that hand shake, talk about cold. His hand felt like he'd just taken it out of a bucket of ice. It was definitely noticeably colder then most. She'd come out of the cold too, it wasn't that cold.
But then again, she really didn't know where she was going with these thoughts. Like, there was something wrong with him, but she had no idea what. So, for the rest of the day, she just went on with going to her boring classes. She hated it, but she did get good grades. She figured if she wasn't going to have to go there, there was no point in getting bad marks, it'd be a total waist of time.
She didn't have anymore classes with Damien that day so far. And as always, she'd skipped lunch to go to the library and read like she always did. So she hadn't seem him there either. Which is odd, because as she'd been walking to the library, for the first time in a long time, she was trying to stop herself from talking herself out of it. She never had this problem, never had to worry about not wanting to skip lunch, but just the chance to see him, even if across the room, was so hard to pass up. But in the end, she'd ended up going to the library like always.
Finally, the last class of the day. She'd gone to her locker, managed to walk through the halls without being stopped, and made it to her last class just seconds before the bell. But when she walked in, she slowed to an almost complete stop when she saw Damien, and he was right next to the seat she sat in. And Claire was sitting right behind him, probably trying to get in his pants already. God, she hated Claire. Jane walked over and sat down in her seat, though on the outside she seemed perfectly calm, she was actually really glad to see him. She couldn't really explain it though.
"Hey, Jane." Claire said in that always snotty tone.
"Did you study for tomorrow's test?" Claire asked her. This happened every time there was a test. Claire would give some story about how she'd been on a date the night before and didn't have time, and how tonight she was seeing someone too.
"Jake asked me-" she started, but Jane cut her off.
"No, I didn't study. And I don't care." Jane lied. She had studied, but honestly, the only time the girl was ever kind of nice is when she wanted answered, and Jane hated that! She was so two faced, it was annoying.
Claire let out a scoff, then looked down at her papers as she mumbled something incoherent. Jane couldn't help but glance over at Damien, and when she did, she smiled.
"Hey." she greeted him, this gained the attention of Claire. And out of the corner of her eye, Jane could see Claire was staring at her, and then Damien. Probably thinking Damien would never even consider Jane over herself.

__________Damien sat with his legs stretched out in front of him, listening to people’s thoughts and making sure no one was too interested in him. Interest makes people do weird things, like try and stalk you on Facebook. Not that vampires had Facebook accounts or anything. But still. Damien smirked as he heard Claire’s – the high pitched cheerleader – voice in his head. ‘I bet he thinks I’m hot and is gonna ask me out after class.’ She just couldn’t take a hint, could she? Even planting ideas in her head hadn’t worked ; that girl was one stubborn idiot. Focusing his attention on Jamie, instead, who he had found out was actually a lesbian who had a secret crush on this other girl named Stephanie, Damien laughed to himself. Jamie’s head was actually a fun place to be in. When you looked at the girl, she seemed quiet and uninteresting. She had dark brown hair that swept pass her shoulders and stopped around her waist. She wore eyeglasses and was dressed in a blue sweater and plain jeans. But once you got inside her head.. The jokes and comebacks she had in there – quite impressive. Damien had spent most of the twenty minutes he had listening to her thoughts.
__________A familiar scent reached Damien’s nostrils and he held his breath while turning his head to face the room door. First, their English teacher entered and after her, none other than Jane Watson. She looked directly at him but Damien looked away. He felt his attention turning to her and the same blurry voices were heard. It was like the wire between his mind and Jane’s was short circuited. It was really, really annoying. Damien felt Jane walking towards him and then, unexpectedly, she settled down into the seat beside his. ‘Wow. That’s some freaky coincidence.’ And then there was that high pitched voice again. Damien winced and raised his left arm and positioned it on the table, trying to block out Claire’s voice. ‘Ugh,’ he thought, trying not to clench his fists as he felt his ear drums pounding. That girl was a ... b***h, for using that annoying nasally voice of hers. And she was Jane’s friend? Pretty unbelievable. Damien didn’t think anyone could stand Claire, not even that Jake person. Then he heard Jane snapping at her and felt relieved. He knew that he didn’t have any right to judge her by who she was friends with but still, anyone who was friends with Claire couldn't possibly be nice.
__________Damien turned in his seat to face Jane and she looked up at him, smiling. “Hey!” said Damien in a friendly tone, about the same time she greeted him as well. He had to hold his breath around this girl because, for some reason, all his strong and reliable vampire instincts told him not to even try and get a whiff of her blood and while it wasn’t really torturing, as it would’ve been for a human, it was still uncomfortable. Vampires didn’t need to breathe, but it had become a habit for most of them. Damien heard Claire’s voice in his head again. ‘What in the world? How did little Janie Watson get to the new guy before I did?’ ‘I have a name, b***h. Now leave us alone. I’d pick her over you any day.’ Claire’s face turned puzzled again, just like the last time Damien tried to make her do something and she glanced away, returning to her group of cheerleaders who were every bit as annoying as she was. “So, how was your day?” asked Damien, picking up his pen and browsing through the test papers. The teacher hadn’t given them any instructions just yet so he guessed that they had a few more minutes to chat.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxJane ✖ Marie ✖ Watsonxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"Slow down, the world isn't watching us break down, it's safe to say we're alone now.."
- Jane smiled at Damien when he asked her how her day was, but then looked to her desk to mess with her pen. "It was alright, nothing really exciting going on. How about yours? Did you find everything okay?" she asked, glancing over at him every now and then as she spoke. Her words were soft and relaxed, she had no reason to be loud and snobby like Claire and her friends. Once again, it's not that Jane is anti-social, she just doesn't like degrading herself by hanging out with those girls who think they're perfect.
Sure, she could put on a cheer leading outfit and a pound of make-up and fit right in with them, no questions asked. But that particular group didn't like her very much, especially not after they found out how much she doesn't like them. The teacher finished taking attendance then, stood up and began writing on the chalkboard a reading assignment. The teacher then began to explain that during the class they'd be reading the assignment, and either tomorrow, or at the end of the class today.
After telling them what to do, the teacher sat back down at her desk, and began reading. The teacher had mentioned that they could go find a spot to read on the floor, so Jane stood up and smiled at Damien. "I'm going to sit in that corner, you can join me if you want." she said, picking up her book, before walking over to the corner. She sat down, and laid the book on her lap. This is where she always read, the teacher often let them do this, and she didn't seem to mind talking quietly, either.
Jane opened the book, and began reading the short story they were assigned to read. She could tell Claire was gossiping about her, and honestly, it pissed her off. She wasn't going to say anything though, she didn't want to start a fight in front of the whole class, especially not Damien, for some reason. It was strange, she never felt this way for guys, and here he was, brand new to the school and she was already worried about what he thought of her.

__________“Oh, mine was.. pretty fantastic,” answered Damien, smiling back, trying not to accidentally inhale or anything. “Psh, yeah,” answered Damien, “I didn’t get lost or anything, so..” And then he fell silent. It was weird that he could appear so calm and collected around other people but so disturbed and desperate around Jane. Everything about the girl seemed to get to him – the fact that he couldn’t completely get into her head being the most frustrating. He wasn’t sure whether he liked or disliked her. But the one thing he knew was that he was definitely curious and wanted to get to the root of the problem. It had never happened before, it shouldn’t now. She was just another human .. right?
__________Damien turned in his seat again and settled down, taking down the assignment that was on the bored. If he was going to be forced to graduate again, he might as well keep up with the records he had set and maybe even top them, if he felt hard working enough that year. Damien looked up as he Jane started talking again and nodded at her. “I’m actually okay here, thanks,” he said, lying. God knows he wanted to spend more time with this girl so that he could find out the source of the problem but he didn’t want to attract too much attention. He had only met her today.
__________Damien sighed and opened the book that they were supposed to read, watching Jane walking over to a corner and settling down against a wall. Damien tried to get into her head to hear what she was thinking but again, all he got was a bad connection.
→ time skip to a week later ←
__________Damien walked past the locker hall and out into the grounds of the school, inhaling deeply as he stepped outside. ‘God, it feels good to be able to breathe again.’ Jane was right behind him. It was about 5pm and the pair had stayed back after school hours to complete an assignment for their Biology class. During his first week at Bassfield High, Damien had found out that he share a total of four classes with Jane – English, Biology, History and Social studies. For the first couple of days, he had thought that being so careful while he spent time with her and sacrificing his own comfort wasn’t worth it. But he realized that as the days went by, the blurry, high pitched sound that popped into his head whenever he tried to read her mind had reduced and was instead replaced with silence. Sometimes he couldn’t hear what she was thinking at all. Things weren’t getting any better and this was the only thing that had kept him going so far. He knew that the longer he hung out with Jane, the more he risked her life and his family’s. Anything could happen. He could lose control, she could start suspecting that he wasn’t entirely human, or worse, she could misunderstand his eagerness to spend time with her as something entirely different. So the sooner he got to the bottom of this, the better.
__________“Oh God, I’m tired,” said Damien, exhaling but not drawing in anymore air. The male pulled out his phone from the pocket of his jeans and dialed a number. A few days ago, he had run into a wall while driving and his car was .. Well, not in good shape. It would take a couple of weeks for it to be repaired and since George wouldn’t let his son take one of the more fancy cars to school, Chace and Nate had been driving to pick him up almost every day. It had been interesting to watch Nathan flirting with the girls from the passenger seat. Damien admired his brothers’ strength and will. They could be around humans and act perfectly normal. They didn’t need to hold their breath or anything of that sort of. He guessed that he needed some more time. Chace was a hundred and five and Nate, ninety - two. Damien was only sixty - four.
__________Damien started heading for the school gate. Usually, he asked his brothers to come about ten minutes later just to make sure that Jane was safely home by the time they arrived. He had made sure not to accidentally let slip to his family that he had a female human friend on whom his powers were useless. Suddenly, Damien heard a squeal behind him and before he could make up his mind whether or not to stay where he was or turn around, he found himself running towards Jane at a speed he only used during hunting. The boy barely knew what was happening. One minute he was perfectly fine, standing near the gates and the next thing he knew was that his teeth were being covered in venom and he was bent over the girl. Damien desperately wanted to stop himself and think for a moment but his body wouldn’t allow that. He was a vampire who had gone sixty years without human blood ; he couldn’t resist it when it was flowing right out of someone’s flesh. Damien found his hands sliding under Jane’s neck and lifting her head up slightly. His own head immediately bent down and sooner than he knew it, he was sinking his teeth into her neck. Damien didn’t feel like himself at all. This wasn’t him. He wasn’t like this. And he knew he had been right to trust his instincts – this girl tasted like heaven. His ears were deaf to her piercing screams, his eyes blind to the frightened look of pain and shock on her face.
__________And then suddenly it all stopped. The next thing he knew, he was being fought off Jane by his own brothers. Chace, who was the oldest and the best trained amongst them all picked Jane up and fled into the green of the trees. The moment she was gone, Damien felt like the devil inside of him had vanished as well. When Nathan saw that he had returned to his senses, he stopped pushing him and tried to calm down. “What the hell is wrong with you man?” shouted Nathan in his face. Damien simply looked away and wiped his mouth which was covered in Jane’s blood. How could he have done that? Jane Watson.. What had she done to him?

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxJane ✖ Marie ✖ Watsonxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"Slow down, the world isn't watching us break down, it's safe to say we're alone now.."
- Jane had been walking with Damien, school long since over, but they'd stayed to finish an assignment. It wasn't required, but she was glad for every minute they got to spend together, so she stayed. By the time they were released, almost everyone was gone from the school. As they were walking, Damien had mentioned that he was tired, and she nodded in agreement. "Mmm, me too." she agreed, glancing up at the sky. It wasn't raining today, but the sky was dark with thick grey clouds.
She let out a sigh, the usually full parking lot empty save for her car, and a few of the teachers cars. She hadn't noticed it, but a kid on a bike was delivering the schools newspaper, and he wasn't looking as he passed. He clipped her arm as he passed, stopped for only a second to say sorry, and continued on. Obviously he was in a hurry. Jane was left standing there, her hand over the wound that she could already feel was bleeding..alot.
"Damn bike rider." she mumbled as she slowly lifted her hand to look at it, then looked up at where Damien had been, just ahead of her, and she didn't even see him coming at her he was coming so fast. but, before she knew it, he was grabbing her, right there in front of her face. She gasped, her hands going to his arms, she felt as if she'd fall if he let go, he had her at a weird angle. And then, he dipped his head down, and much to her confusion, he bit her neck!
"Damien! Damien please stop!" she screamed, it hurt like hell! She couldn't stop herself from screaming, trying to get him to stop, but he didn't. Slowly, her vision lessened as her eyes closed unwillingly, and she grew limp just as his brother came to stop Damien. She was awake, she could feel his brother take her into his arms, and then leave. It was like he was running, but it wasn't rough like it would be for someone who was running this fast with someone in their arms.
Jane tried to say something, but it came out a mumble. "Shh, it's gonna be okay." his brother assured her as he found a safe secluded spot. Meanwhile, Jane began to feel her neck growing warmer and warmer, until it felt like someone was holding a lighter to her neck. Her hand snaked up towards her neck, but Chace stopped her by pinning her hand to her chest. "I-It burns! Make it stop!" she finally managed to shout, this made Chace stop, and lay her on the ground. Next thing she knew, his lips were against her neck, and he too was drinking the blood from her. She just didn't understand it! But as he did this, the burning went away, cause her to calm down, and eventually she went unconscious.
Once Chace was fairly sure she'd be okay, he started back to the parking lot where Nate and Damien were. It only took him about a minute to get back, and he stopped in front of the two. "She's going to be okay, but we need to get her to the house to bandage her up before she loses much more blood. I'll take her in her car, and Nate, you drive Damien home." he said, tossing Nate the keys, who caught them, nodded, and walked to their car. Chace walked over to Jane's car, and placed her in the front seat. He dug through her purse, and grabbed her keys and got in the driver seat, to drive her to the house.
Their father would be fine with the blood to, being older then all of them, and he'd be able to help them bandage her up. They couldn't very well take her to her parents like this, they had to keep their secret safe. Chace drove over the speed limit as always, he was in a hurry to get her there though. He was sure if she lost much more blood she might possibly die, and the blame would be left on them.
Before too long, he was pulling into the drive-way of their house, he cut the engine and put her keys back in her purse. He got out of the car, then walked around to her side. He scooped her up once again, and carried her inside the house. He laid her down on the kitchen table, that never gets used, so they could bandage up her neck. It'd be alot easier then trying to do it on the couch.

__________Damien’s patience was being tested as he waited in Chace’s Lexus for his brother and Jane to return. He had never attacked a human and then got pulled off – it just left him hungry for more blood. There was a part of him that knew that this was all wrong, that it shouldn’t have happened. There was George, who had worked so hard to build up the little family they were. Had he just risked their lives by losing control? Would Jane remember what had happened and tell everyone she knew? Would they have to flee again? Would they be caught this time? And then there was the Jane part. Good ol’ Jane. She didn’t even know what had hit her. How was she feeling right now? Did she think he was an animal? Had Chace been able to save her? Where were they? And just as these thoughts were crossing Damien’s mind, his sensitive ears picked up footsteps of a single person and he got out of the car and from the thickening of the trees, Chace appeared with Jane unconscious in his arms, her top almost fully covered in blood from Damien's bite. A low, involuntary growl escaped from Damien’s chest and Nathan got out of the car and pushed him backwards. “Get in and stay there,” commanded Nate, who was looking a little sick as well due to the over powering smell of Jane's blood. The second oldest Demetri brother wasn’t one for discipline and will power but when it came to this matter, he was very strict about it. Before today, all the three brothers were. But this was an innocent human that Damien had hurt. He was reluctant to leave before finding out if she was okay. Damien got his answer when Chace spoke. “Come on man, let’s go,” said Nate again, dragging Damien by the shoulder. Damien didn’t move an inch. “Ian, listen to me,” said Nate, forcing Damien to face him. “This is for Dad, okay? The girl will be fine.” Damien nodded slowly, climbing back into the car and resting his head on the window, staring out blankly. What had he done?

__________They still didn’t know that she was his friend. They probably thought that she was just an unlucky student. How was he going to tell them? What would his reason be? That he was only hanging out with her because he wanted to know what was going on in her head? Was that even important? Wasn’t that considered as privacy invasion? Why had it meant so much to him before? Why couldn’t he just be satisfied with knowing what the rest of the world thought and leave Jane Watson alone? Why had he lost control? Why?
__________“Damien, we’re here.” Damien turned his head to face his brother and stared at him. After a while he nodded, reaching his hand out to open the car door. “Listen to me,” said Nate, gripping on his other arm. “We’re your family, okay?” he said, releasing his grip and patting his younger brother’s arm instead, “We’re not going to judge you. You lost control, big deal. We’re vampires, we can’t help it.” Damien knew that Nathan was lying. Everything that he had ever been taught by this family contradicted what Nathan had just told him. You lose control, you get thrown out. That was the golden rule. “No,” said Damien, shaking his head, “No. Nate, what I did was my mistake, you don’t need to bend the rules and tell me it was no biggie. I attacked a human, Nate. Yeah, sure, we’re vampires. But we’re the rare few that can differentiate between right and wrong. And I just broke one of our rules.” Nathan opened his mouth to argue back but Damien stopped him. “We’ll talk about this later. I want to make sure she’s okay first.” And he climbed out of the car and walked up the familiar path that led to the Demetri house. It was a beautiful wooden house build on a lake side and one side of it was completely made of glass walls. It certainly didn’t look like a house in which four fully - grown, adult vampires lived.
__________Letting himself inside – the door had been left open, so he assumed that Chace was already there – Damien walked into the living room. He was greeted by what he identified as the smell of dried blood and immediately covered his mouth and nose and went back out the way he came in. Nathan was coming up the path and Damien stopped him. “It’s like open heart surgery in there,” he said. Damien heard Nathan growl and ignored it, simply dragging him back to the car. Damien sat quietly, staring out at the still waters of the lake while Nathan fidgeted with the spring toy that was on the dashboard of the car. “How did it happen?” asked Nate suddenly. Damien looked at him, surprised that the question had come up so soon – he wasn’t expecting it until this was all over. For a moment, he wanted to just tell Nate to back off until they knew that Jane was okay but he found himself telling him the truth. Nathan listened quietly, not reacting one bit. When Damien was done, only then did Nathan speak. “It was stupid, Damien, that’s all I’m going to say. It was stupid to get so close to a human. Even the rest of us never dared to take that risk.” Damien was going to get out of the car and run off into the woods just behind their house but right at that moment, Chace appeared. “She’s fine,” he said smiling, opening the door and clapping Damien on the shoulder, “She woke up the second Dad started patching her up. Man, that guy may not be a doctor but he definitely knows his way with a needle.” Damien winced and then got out of the car, walking past Chace and up into the house. The smell of Jane’s blood still lingered but it wasn’t so bad now.
__________Walking into the living room, he saw Jane resting on the couch. George saw his son and stood up immediately, gesturing him to go back out. Damien obeyed and his father appeared outside the room a few seconds later. “Damien..” he said in a low voice - obviously trying not to disturb Jane – and placed his hands on his son’s shoulders, “My boy..” Damien realized that he couldn’t meet his father’s eyes. George realized this and tapped him on the back. “She’s fine,” he said, “A little terrified, but fine. Still, I wouldn’t suggest you go in there right now unless you want to send her screaming.” Damien nodded. “She doesn’t know..” “No, she doesn’t know that I’m Daddy Vamp and that Chace is your brother,” said George simply and walked away. Damien sneaked one last glance at the girl’s peaceful face and that instant, he knew that he would never try to get into Jane Watson’s head ever again.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxJane ✖ Marie ✖ Watsonxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"Slow down, the world isn't watching us break down, it's safe to say we're alone now.."

- Jane had woke up as a man started stitching up her neck. He introduced himself as George, the other, Chace. Both of them were equally handsome, and oddly reminded her of Damien. She couldn't ask any of the many questions going through her head at the moment, because her head was pounding. She couldn't think to ask the questions, and when she opened her mouth to try and speak, nothing came out.
Before long, George had finished with her neck. Chase got her a clean T-shirt, and a pair of shorts to wear for now, and she went into the bathroom to get changed. She looked in the mirror at her neck. It looked pretty bad, but it felt alot worse then it looked. She got changed slowly and carefully, she didn't want rip open the stitches already, getting them once was bad enough.
Once she was dressed, and she'd washed all the blood off herself, she walked out of the bathroom with the clothes in her arms slowly, she was barely able to keep her balance. And both men rushed over to her so fast it didn't seem possible. Chace grabbed her arm to keep her steady, and George took the clothes from her. "I'll just get rid of these, that blood will never come out." he said, taking the clothes out back to burn them, though Jane had no idea that's what he was going to do.
Chace helped her over to the couch, and she laid down to relax. He sat across the room from her, and just watched her. She wondered where she was, and where Damien was.. She still couldn't believe Damien had bitten her, she'd told the two men that she didn't know what'd happened. But she was pretty sure she did know, no, she was positive, but she didn't know why he'd done it, it didn't make any sense to her.
Then, George sat down, and she was just laying on the couch. She closed her eyes, they'd been drooping for a few minutes now, but she hadn't wanted to sleep. But, after she got a little rest, she planned on getting a few answers.
As she was resting, she felt someone move past her, though she heard nothing. And she opened her eyes to see it was George going outside. She grabbed on to the back of the couch to sit up, and watched the door George had left through. And, after a minute or two, she saw Damien poke his head in. "Damien?" she said, trying to get to her feet now.
As she did, Chace walked over and grabbed her arm. "You don't have the energy, sit back down." Chace told her, and she tried to pull her arm away, though she wasn't able to. "No, Damien, come back!" she said, though her voice was weak and she was barely able to shout it, she figured he couldn't even hear, so she gave up and sat down as the room began spinning again.
She knew Damien had bit her, but she didn't know why. She wanted to know why, though, it didn't make any sense to her. There was an explanation floating around in her head, but she didn't want to believe it. If she accused him of being a vampire, people wold think she's crazy. She didn't want that. And also, what was she going to tell everyone? Especially her father, who would be pissed if she came home and told him 'my friend bit me'. Even she didn't think that sounded sane, though it was the truth.
