"I have never seen the clouds so gray" i said to myself as i walk the foggy streets of London. Everyone was doing thier daily morning routine. the merchants are arranging thier stands, the children plays outside, and the knights are investigating. yeah, they're investigating...they want to find out who murdered the king. the king and me, well...we really weren't that close but even though we weren't, he trusted me with everything.
and that's why his death somehow brought sadness in my heart.
as i kept walking, a friend of mine approached me, "Victoria? Victoria? is that you?"
"oh? hey, how's it going?" i replied to that friend of mine.
"where are you going?" he asked.
"to the Royal Cemetery, i want to visit the king."
"so the flowers are for him? what lovely flowers they are."
"thank you, i picked them up myself, well i better be going now, i need to return this book to the library by twelve." and with that i headed off.
i arrived at the cemetery and saw the queen there, i did expect her to be there since she was the king's wife. i was about to approach her but felt the need to pause and hide behind one of the tombstones when i saw one of her servants with her. i knew each and everyone of her faithful subjects except for the one that was accompanying her today: the butler.
He was tall, dark and dashing. he was the king's distant cousin, his most trusted servant.
he was the king and queen's company in their times of need, he would always be there for them.
However, the butler was much more closer to the queen than the king and lately we've been noticing that the queen prefer's the butler's company more than the king's. they were very close.
"too close perhaps..." i thought to myself as i see them together in front of the king's grave.
They were holding hands, fingers-interlaced. he whispered something in her ear and she smiled as though tickled by his breath.
"disgusting..."I've always suspected "something" going on between them. but i never really said a word to anyone. after a few second, she gave her final wave to the king's grave and then left the cemetery. i came out of hiding.
"odd...i expected her to burst out in tears, but there was no sign of sadness in her face, no empathy at all..."
i left my flowers at the king's grave and touch his tombstone, surprisingly so i shed one teardrop in my right eye. i don't know why i felt sad...
i don't know if i pitied the king for having such an unfaithful wife.
or
was it because i knew that things will never be the same again anymore. it will never be as it was before.

It was morning, good thing thick clouds are covering the sky. I was having tea in the garden. But… “I never thought that the day would come that I’d say goodbye to a good friend.” I said as Sebastian poured me a cup of tea. It was Earl Grey, the king’s favorite tea. I took a sip and opened my book to read. Sebastian just stood beside me. He has always been this way whenever something happens that upsets me. “Which would you prefer scones, cookies or cake to go along with your tea today?” he said to me and I replied “Scones” then he just bowed and went to the kitchen. I sighed and rested the book on the table. As I looked at the sky “I wonder if Lydia is actually saddened by what has happened” I said to myself. I didn’t actually see anything after seeing King Fredrick fall on the floor since Sebastian hurriedly covered my eyes. But after that I just saw Lydia’s blank expression not actually looking like she cares at all.
After all this thinking I decided to rest my eyes for a while. It felt quite calm hearing the gust of wind and fluttering leaves. Then a leaf fell on my tea cup, Sebastian suddenly appeared behind me, cathing an arrow. I stood-up and said “What as tha…” I stopped as I saw the arrow. There was actually a blue rose on it. And only the King would send me a rose in that color. “My Lady” Sebastian said to me and I just said “This maybe a warning… I’m pretty sure that the others got a rose too.” I said as I placed the stem on the page that I was reading and closed the book making it as my bookmark. “Sebastian, bring me flower that suit the Queen, we shall pay her a visit” I added and Sebastian replied with “Yes, My lady” I entered the mansion and was walking on the stairs. ‘Let’s see how you mourn for your husband’s death Lydia’
It was around 11’oclock and I dressed-up and prepared to go to the palace. Sebastian drove the carriage. I looked outside and saw the gloomy aura of the city. How I wish the King would see how the people mourn for his death. I feel happy for him, for the people love him dearly. ‘Will also see such a scene later once I see Lydia?’ I thought and just smirked to myself. We finally arrived at the palace. Sebastian opened the door and extended his hand to me. “My Lady, watch your step.” He said to me and I just smiled and stepped out. The soldiers formed two lines and saluted us. Me and Sebastian passed through and entered the palace halls.
There the maids led us to the waiting room. “Would you like anything, Lady Luna?” she asked but I shook my head and smiled. Not long after Lydia entered the room and approached me. I stood up to greet her properly. “How have you been Lydia?” I said to her and she just looked at the ground. “I’m okay but it is definitely lonely, Fredrick left me so soon” Lydia said but no matter how much I look at her expression it gave no impression of being sad at all. Suddenly a knock was heard and a butler entered. I remembered seeing him together with Lydia during the party and the way I observe the way Lydia is talking to her I’m actually getting the wrong impression. “Luna, Let’s have tea in the garden” Lydia said and I just nodded and smiled. One of the maids led me to the garden. On the other hand I ordered Sebastian to help the other servants make tea. I watched the maids prepare the table. After a while Lydia and her butler arrived along with Sebastian. Lydia and I sat down and began to talk about random things while the maids were busy preparing.
One of the maids was about to give me tea when she suddenly tripped. I knew what was coming so I just closed my eyes and waited. To my surprise someone held me. It was Sebastian. The tea was all over him. “I’m terribly sorry!” the maid said and gave him a towel. I accompanied him to the nearest guest room and waited for him in the bedroom. I looked outside the window. ‘I didn’t actually know that there was another garden here’ I thought to myself then I saw two figures under a tree. “That’s Lydia’s butler and a maid… no wait that’s… Lydia?” I said to myself as my eyes widened with surprise. They were holding hands and I was very disgusted with it. There was actually a snake in the palace and to think that it was the queen herself. My eyes narrowed at them. I wanted to throw-up from disgust.
“They did more than that earlier before going to the garden” Sebastian said coming out from the bath startling me. “You scared me!” I said to my demon butler that was standing before me while he was drying his hair with a towel. I looked away realizing that his shirt was half done. He just smirked and went to the dressing room. ‘Finally! He goes to the dressing room’ I said in my head but remembering it I shook my head and sighed. “Hey Sebastian, what did you mean by what you said earlier?” I asked as I leaned back on the sofa, rested my chin on my palm and closed my eyes. Then Sebastian came out of the dressing room not making a sound he leaned closer to me and whispered something to my ear.
After hearing this I was dumbfounded and my facial expression couldn’t be defined anymore and Sebastian just remained bowing in front of me. “What do you wish to do now My Lady” he asked me. “We… We are going home now.” I said and he just nodded and bowed. We left the palace without saying a word to the Queen. I have never felt this angry before. I wanted to confront her but I know that this isn’t the time. But the truth will be revealed soon enough. “Just wait Lydia, you’ll soon be punished accordingly to what you have done”.

Name: Caelan Meldryk
Birthday: 15th of October
Age: 18
Birthday: 15th of October
Age: 18

Background: His parents were once assassins of an unknown guild, and like the usual, parent-child relationship, they influenced him to be one as well. He was trained to kill and soon became a vigilante as well as a bounty hunter at the age of ten just so he could help his parents with their financial status. At the age of thirteen, he was sent to a village to seek those who are cursed and eliminate them. It was his first big mission, and unfortunately, he failed to kill them all. A thirteen-year-old girl seemed to have escaped, and this proved bad news to the boy. He came home to his parents and not a few months after that, and after Caelan learned to live on his own, his family agreed to live separately from each other just in case the people took revenge on them if they found out. That way, if one gets into trouble, the others wouldn’t get involved.
Already a thief as soon as he was sent on his own, Caelan already got used to running around for hours. He was caught stealing some magical scrolls from a sorcerer’s shop in London, and because of that, the owner made him work for him as punishment. He helped the hunters catch enough mythical creatures to sell to the rich people and he was also in charge of taking care of them while they were in cages. That was when he learned how to deal with dragons and such without the use of blades and manmade weapons, and learned to get in touch with nature as well.
Now that his master thought that he is skilled enough, he sent him to the gates of the underworld through sorcery just so he could get himself a ‘pet.’ This served as a present for being so faithful. That was when he met ‘Kelkha,’ the shapeshifting dragon who soon thought of Caelan as her ‘parent’ because of the skeletal armor he adorned. The two became close after that, and they helped each other out when one is in need.
Caelan really had no idea that his master actually served royalty in London and as soon as he was sent there to perform magic tricks in front of them, he came to realize that he was actually trained only to entertain. He used magic spells, dealt with fire, played with knives… His skills amazed the king, especially the part when Caelan made Kelkha, his ‘assistant,’ turn into a dragon and ‘fought’ with her.
Even though the battle was scripted, the king saw a potential warrior inside Caelan and after he invited him to the training grounds to duel with one of his best guards, his assumptions were soon to be proven right. The king trained Caelan and gave him proper education, who, after a few years became a knight.
Only a few knew about him being an assassin, and he has no plans of revealing his past to anyone as of yet.

A stream of arrows shot through the air as a long-haired albino ran through the open fields. The arrows struck the ground, barely missing the target by a few inches. Caelan jumped once more, avoiding the next set of arrows being shot at him by an elfin. Jasra, the elfin, groaned in disappointment, earning him a light-hearted chuckle from the target.
”Nice aim, squirt!” The albino called out in a sarcastic tone. This annoyed the elfin and a few seconds after that; the air was once again filled with arrows, this time with their metal tips on fire. Caelan laughed once more. ”If you’re not sure of your aim, do not even try to waste your arrows!” Standing still, Caelan welcomed the arrows that were sent on his way. Jasra smiled, but then his facial expressions soon faded after seeing Kelkha, the dragon, block the way. The flaming arrows hit the dragon instead, and then fell to the mossy floor hopelessly. The female dragon shook it off like nothing happened before roaring in satisfaction. She then bent over to inspect the arrows, her snout almost touching the smoking darts as they run out of life. The wind then rustled through the forest leaves in the opposite direction after the elfin’s final assault. It was a sign that Jasra had given up, as he was controlling the wind spirits earlier that would aid him in hitting Caelan, his target.
”I do not seem to get it, Sir. The winds were in my favor and yet I was still unable to leave a single scratch on you.” Jasra looked down and gazed on his bow, his aquamarine eyes showing a tint of disappointment. Running his gloved hand on the bow, he took note of its smooth texture, and let his fingers rise up and down as they ran through the creases of the bow’s decoration. His weapon had angelic symbols in them, and every time he shot a massive number of arrows during a short period of time, the bow would give off a faint, white glow. Of course, it’s mostly because the maker of that bow has incorporated the wind spirits in it, thus making it easier to use and carry. It was light, and Jasra did not find it cumbersome ever. The elfin sighed then looked up at the sky. ”I don’t think I’m going to make it in the battlefield.. What a failure of an elf I am.” He sighed, this time in a tiring and hopeless manner.
”Oh don’t be so harsh on yourself, Elf. You were astounding. I have never met an archer of your caliber, honestly speaking.” Walking closer, the long-haired albino lifted up his armored hand and in a friendly, yet affectionate way, placed it on Jasra’s head, making him tilt his head down to look at Caelan in a rather, shocked and embarrassed way. The elfin, weird as it may seem, blushed in embarrassment as he is now unable to make up his mind on how to react to the albino’s gesture. Jasra couldn’t help but stutter a bit, his cheeks reddening even more.
Realizing the effect that he had made on the male elfin in front of him, Caelan immediately ruffled the younger male’s blond hair. He laughed. ”Well, what are you gawking at?” He asked before turning away, making his way towards his pet dragon. Jasra stood still while having his eyes glued at the royal knight. Caelan looked back and continued. ”Haven’t received a compliment like that before, have you?” Smiling, he turned his gaze away from him before starting to pet Kelkha’s scaly head. The dragon immediately nuzzled her master’s hand with her snout and Caelan could feel her cold nose even through all that skeletal armor that covered his hands as well as his whole body.
Jasra immediately broke off from his dazed state and kicked himself mentally. How idiotic of him to get the wrong impression from the royal knight. He was assuming wrongly all this time, just because someone had his hand on his head, right in between his long, elven ears. Just because that kind of gesture meant something romantic in his elven culture doesn’t mean that Caelan was showing him his romantic side.
Add all his compliments to the equation... He thought to himself before shaking his head furiously. No way is he going to misinterpret the knight’s actions. After all, they ARE from a different culture. And besides…
He probably likes that dragon more than-- Jasra looked down, as if cutting himself from thinking any further. He sighed again and after turning his gaze at Caelan, he watched him climb up his huge pet and nodded at him. The knight called out. ”Let’s call it a day. We’ll resume our practice tomorrow. Same time, same place.” Caelan, now wearing that serious expression in his face, gestured the elfin to get on his horse. Jasra only nodded and walked to the forest to retrieve his horse. Caelan waited for him patiently and as soon as his student came back, they took off to the direction of the royal castle. He couldn’t help but wonder at the reason for this ‘early dismissal,’ being a curious student and all.
”Sir, if I may ask…” He started and waited for Caelan to turn his head to his direction and urge him to continue. ”Why end our practice at such an early time? Do you have a more important business that needs your immediate attention?” Making their way through the forest, the bushes and shrubs rustled as they passed through. Caelan smiled a bit, though his smile actually hid a small frown underneath. ”Me and Kelkha here… are going to the graveyard…” He said bluntly while the elfin noticed that fake smile of his. Jasra asked for the second time. ”Are you going to pay his majesty a visit?” Caelan only gave a small nod, a sign that he is now not in the mood to entertain further questions. Being under his care for years, Jasra have already understood the knight’s silence and kept all the curiosity to himself.
After they had stepped in front of the royal gates, Jasra immediately climbed off his horse and led it to Caelan. The elfin is really not from the castle, as he is simply a mere nomad in the forest of elves. The only connection he has with royalty was with Caelan, since he urged the knight to teach him to become a warrior for free. There were no contracts signed, no permits from the royal palace or the royal court… It was just a way of hanging out with a friend from inside the kingdom.
At the sight of Jasra returning the horse that he borrowed, Caelan laughed a bit. ”You can keep ole Sally for a while if you want.’ He said before the elfin started to reject the offer profusely. ”I can’t do that! I do not belong in the kingdom in the first place! Wouldn’t it anger the Queen knowing that you lend one of your horses to an outsider?” Of course, this was a wonderful offer, but Jasra wanted to be sincere about it and so refused. The knight insisted though.
”Don’t worry about it, Jasra.” He said while turning away and entering the gates after they were opened by the guards. ”She wouldn’t bother checking up on me or anyone else, that’s for sure…” Caelan looked down, rather disappointingly. ”…Now that she has that pesky butler for a lackey nowadays..” Caelan added, almost to himself.
As the gates stared to close, Jasra waved, even with Caelan’s back facing towards him. He tilted his head confusingly. ”A butler..?” He asked himself before finally climbing up on Sally and riding off towards the forest. It was then, behind the closed gates, Caelan noticed a silver rose hanging from the hilt of his dagger, its stem tangled on the ribbon somehow tied to the hilt. This made Caelan wonder, as there were no roses of this kind in the forest…
…Plus, only the King obtained roses of this color, all grown with the aid of sorcery. He would often use these strangely-colored petals to heal the sick and strengthen the weary. Caelan picked it up and examined it. Kelkha noticed the sudden silence of her master and so turned her head to look at him from behind.
”How uncanny this is…” He said to himself . The dragon nodded, as if feeling the same thing.
Perhaps it was a sign.
”Nice aim, squirt!” The albino called out in a sarcastic tone. This annoyed the elfin and a few seconds after that; the air was once again filled with arrows, this time with their metal tips on fire.

"arrrghh!!! It’s so HOT!!! Why on earth did I forget to bring my umbrella!?" I irritatedly asked myself over and over again throughout my whole walk to the library. It was around eleven, and the sun is at it's highest, shining so bright, warming up the earth without mercy. Normally you wouldn't find me walking in the steaming streets of London in the middle of the day but I had to. I needed to return a book.
The book was entitled "depredation of Julius Caesar"[/i] basically, it's a story about Julius Caesar and how he got captivated by Pharaoh Cleopatra VII, and how he was blinded by her beauty and didn't see her bad qualities, values and attitude. Of course although the characters were real and so were the turn of events, the love story itself is fiction.
The book was very thick, and the letters were very small, AND there were no drawings. Normally, this isn't something I would read. But I had to only because of my mother, (she wants me to read it only because her friend's daughters reads them). I had the book a week ago, and I finished it just yesterday.
I finally arrived at the town library.
"Good day Lady Victoria, you look beautiful today." said Mr. Gavrill Pogoretskaia.
Mr. Gravill is already at his sixties when he arrived here in London from Russia. He's a good friend of my father, and someone i myself like hanging out wih as well.
He is a world renowned book collector and decided to open a library where people can borrow the books that he has collected. But that's all they can do. Borrow. They can never buy it. It’s not for sale. And if so ever one forgets to return the book on time, that person will be charged with a penalty of 500 pounds. If he fails to return it at all, let’s say it got lost, then that person will be charged with a penalty of 700 pounds and will be banned from the library forever. Now that’s what you call “heavy”.
"Good day to you too Mr. Gavrill, here's the book I borrowed, I took good care of it. You can search for tears and scratch but you wouldn't find one.
“Good, good, I see that I can entrust you with my precious books.” Replied Mr. Garvill with a smile on his face.
“Whew, I’m hungry, have you eaten yet Mr. Gavrill?” I asked Mr. Gavrill as I handed over the book to him.
“No, I haven’t eaten yet. I was too busy counting my books; it has been a habit of mine every single day. But now that you’ve mentioned it…let’s eat. Would you mind having a cup of tea with me Lady Victoria?” asked Mr. Garvill.
“As long as that’s not the only thing we’re having, then that’s fine with me.” I replied with my thumbs up, both left and right. Then after a few seconds, while we were walking into his house, which was on the basement of his library, I had a shocked reaction on my face when I remembered what he said. He counts his books…every single day. That’s when I confirmed it, Mr. Gavrill is really hardcore. Yeah!!
We were on His dining room. There was complete beam of gladness shining out from my face when I saw that what we have for lunch is Lasagna. And of course a cup of tea.
“How’s your mother? Lady Victoria?”
“My mother? Well she’s doing okay…I guess. I don’t know, what do you mean Mr. Gavrill? Do you mean if she’s healthy? Well yes, she’s healthy. Do you mean is she stressed as the duchess? Well yeah I mean a position of high rank really is a very tiring job…
“I meant, as your mother…how is she doing?”
“she…well, she’s okay. I mean, she’s nice to me. She loves me…too much. That’s the problem. Her love suffocates me sometimes. She treats me like a baby, and at times I feel that I fall short of her expectations. I mean…I’m not exactly the sweet and mild and lady like of a lady that everyone expects from a duchess. I’m clumsy, I talk informally, and I’m quite mischievous.
“That’s what makes you special Lady Victoria, you’re not a girly-girl, and at the same time, you’re not that boyish. You’re unique, a girl stuck somewhere in between.”
“Yeah, that’s me. The middle girl…always been stuck in the middle…”
“I sense trouble in your voice, mind telling me all about it?”
“…”
I was silent for a while, but after a cup of tea and eating two spoons of lasagna, I decided to tell him about my burden. A secret that I don’t tell anyone, a secret that I can’t tell my friends, a secret that I can only tell to those who don’t care and to those who I can trust that wouldn’t blabber it out to anyone. And that was him.
“Mr. Gavrill, I’m tired of always being in the middle.”
“What do you mean, Victoria?”
The moment he addressed me as Victoria, he made it easier for me to confess, as the formality was gone and I became more comfortable talking to him.
“Well, in a fight, there are three persons in the ring, the two opponents and the referee. And among the three…I am the poor referee.”
”go on…”
“Ever since the king died…things have been different. There was a division among the group. Me and the queen, we used to be great friends, everyone looked up to our friendship. But now, we hate each other. And I hate myself for being in the middle of all this.”
“What do you mean?”
“What I mean is, my friends are starting to lose favor of the queen and vice versa. My friends tell me what they don’t like about the queen and the butler, they tell me that the queen has changed, the butler became big headed simply because the queen favored him above all of us. Then the queen tells me what she doesn’t like about my friends, which was also her friends but now she doesn’t like them anymore. She tells me that my friends are really immature, can’t they understand that she’s in pain!? She just lost her husband, why can’t they be more supportive!? Yada-yada-yada. There are complains everywhere I go!”
“You poor thing, stuck in the middle of all this.”
“YES! EXACTLY! I don’t know what to do actually, I don’t know if I should avoid them or not, cause I like hanging out with them, I’m just tired of all the drama, and the MOOD SWINGS!!”
“Well then, just leave them be. Find something else better to do.”
“Yeah, I am doing that. That’s why I actually came here personally to bring the book back to you; I need to ask you a favor.”
“That explains your personal visit; I was wondering why it wasn’t one of your servants who came to deliver the book back. How may I help you Lady Victoria?”
“Mr. Gavrill, what do you know about the butler?” I asked with a serious look on my face.
“The butler? You mean the closest friend of the queen? Hmm…not that much. But I do know a person who I think might know something about him. Do you know anyone named “Zita?”
“No. but please do give me her address so that I can talk to her.”
“alright, I’ll give you HIS address. hehe, Zita is a boy my lady, it’s just that he’s mother wanted a girl so bad that she gave him a girl name..., uh, Lady Victoria, if may ask, why would you want to know anything about the queen’s butler?”
“I’m doing my own private investigation on the king’s mysterious death. And I think that he might have something to do with it.”
“I see…” replied Mr. Gavrill. He had a look on his face but I don’t know if he was serious or mad or interested or if he doesn’t care. I can’t read him. And the tone of his voice as well was rather…empty.
I went home and arrived there around four o clock.
“sighs, what a tiring day. Hmm…that lasagna was really delicious, maybe I should ask our cook to make one for me.” I said to myself drooling while I was taking my shoes off. (I like to walk around the house on my bare feet and feel the soft texture of the carpet on my skin. This is just one of the reasons why people think I’m weird, but I don’t care.)
The thought of having another round of Lasagna excited me so much that I run straight to the kitchen to talk to the cook and I forgot to notice my mother and two heralds sitting right across her in the sala.
I was about to enter the kitchen when I heard a huge scream coming from the living room:
“VICTORIIAAA ANN VALENTINE!!!” it was mother…oh great.
“Mom!! I…I didn’t notice you. Hey, what’s up?” I said while slowly walking to her, trembling in fear, wondering why she screamed, wondering if she finally found out that it was me who broke her ten thousand pounds bloody jade vase exported from china.
As I came closer I finally noticed the two heralds sitting right across my mother. My mother motioned with her head for me to sit down right next to her. I looked at the two heralds and observed them. The one on the left looks somewhat in his thirties and is very masculine. With no expression in his face at all.
The one on the right looks like his younger brother, probably around twenty years of age. And…I don’t know if it’s just me or something but I think he’s staring at me every time I’m not looking and would look always when I look at him.
My mother finally breaks the silence and asked the two heralds “well…what do you guys want?” my mother asked with an impatient tone in her voice.
“we have something to give her.” The one on the left replied.
“Have something to give me…what could it be?” I wondered.
